What to visit in Batumi and its surroundings in summer. Entertainment in Batumi: what to do at the resort? T transport locations in Batumi

Batumi is an amazing city that welcomes all visitors not only with warm weather. There are many interesting places, various sights, which are recommended to be explored for several days. If the voyager is just passing through the city, it is important for him to find out where to go and what to see in Batumi in the first place. Experienced tourists have compiled their own rating of attractions, which everyone is invited to familiarize themselves with. If a guest stays in the atmospheric city for at least a week, he will be able to visit many places, but everyone else can choose sights to see on the city map at their own discretion.

The most popular Batumi attractions on the map

The well-groomed park is located in close proximity to the embankment (it is quite easy to find it on the map). This place will be highly appreciated by visitors with small children, as there are small paths for leisurely walks, a small boat station, as well as a mini zoo, and there is also a zoo nearby. You can also go here in the evening with children, because the place is quiet, and in its very heart there is an unusual fountain, the jet of which beats as if from underground and keeps at a level of three meters.

Alphabetic Tower

This is a high tower, it is not for nothing that it belongs to the sights of Batumi that are worth seeing. However, guests are advised to go here in the late afternoon to watch the sunset. You will have to stand in line for the elevators, for the lift you need to pay 8 GEL per one.

Astronomical Clock

This is an astronomical clock that shows the exact time and is located on Europe Square. You can go here for those who want to look also at the European Square, marked on the map. The building on which the clock is located is atmospheric. It conveys the European spirit and, as it were, takes vacationers to Europe, and at the same time makes it possible to compare their watches.

This is a real landmark of Batumi, which was built at the beginning of the 20th century with the financing of the Zubalashvili brothers and then put on the map. The building was erected by Catholics on the site of a drained lake. Today it is an Orthodox cathedral, which is made in the Gothic style. This is an extraordinary architectural building, which is worth the close attention of travelers. It is this place that believers will not miss when choosing what to see in Batumi and its environs - the sights of the city include other Orthodox churches.

Kobuleti Beach

This is a beautiful beach, which is especially marked on the map of travelers who go to Batumi for sunbathing and swimming in the sea. Absolutely clear water touches the same neat and well-groomed beach, along the entire perimeter of which there are trestle beds, sun loungers, umbrellas. You can rent one such trestle bed for a nominal fee - only 3-4 GEL. Numerous water attractions are offered here, but they do not interfere with other vacationers to swim.

Chacha Fountain (Chacha Tower)

There is a chacha tower within walking distance from the port. As the locals say, earlier here at a certain time it was possible to drink a delicious drink - chacha - for free. As for architecture, this place is in many ways reminiscent of the buildings that stand in Izmir.

Museum of Fine Arts of Adjara (Batumi)

An inquisitive guest will certainly put the Museum of Fine Arts in the educational program. You can view and evaluate the paintings for only 2 GEL (for each person), you need to pay only 0.50 GEL for a child. The building is two-story, you can get around it in half an hour. There are both permanent and temporary exhibitions on the territory. It is worth going to the museum at least to appreciate the work of Pirosmani and Gudiashvili.

Attractions around Batumi

Makhuntseti bridge and waterfall

Guests who go to Georgia want not only to look at the ancient buildings, but also to feel the atmosphere of these places, which is somewhat wild and uncontrollable. That is why voyagers choose unique natural attractions on the map of Batumi, which people have only partially ennobled. To enjoy the natural beauties, you need to take a map with you and go outside the city - to Adjara, where the Makhuntseti Waterfall is located. You can get here by car or spend 2 GEL per person to take a fixed-route taxi - on the 77 minibus of the bus station.

This point of the tourist route is also marked on the map of Batumi with sights in Russian. You can walk around the entire fortress, which is still being excavated and studied, in half an hour. That is why this attraction is often included in other tourist routes. Already now one can appreciate the power of this place by those fragments of the walls that are revealed to the world. Despite the fact that the place is ancient, there are no prohibition signs and strict supervision. This gives travelers the opportunity to even climb the walls of the fortress, but this solution is extreme, since there are no railings here. The fortress seems to be permeated with the spirit of History. The cost of visiting is low - 3 GEL per person.

Amusement park "Tsitsinatela" (Kobuleti)

This is a great experience park. People go here when they want to spend active time and see many sights of Batumi along the way. There is a Ferris wheel here, which is worth going to in the evening to be able to see the place when the sun illuminates the city with the last rays of the sun. The park opens at 18:00. The prices are quite reasonable: a ride on the carousel will cost 5–10 GEL for an adult, and 1–3 GEL for a child. Slot machines are even cheaper - 0.50 GEL per game.

Sights of Batumi. What to see in the capital of Adjara in 1-2 days. Piazza Square, Ali and Nino sculpture, Neptune Fountain and Batumi McDonald's and much more. Attractions of Batumi, which are worth visiting in the first place.

Batumi is the main resort of modern Georgia. City of eternal holiday. And part-time such a huge overgrown amusement park, in which, by some strange coincidence, people still live. Tanya and I stayed here for almost a month. And almost all this time I had the feeling that we were in the epicenter of some huge amusement park. I don't even know how to explain this to you. It seems that every second the ground under you does not stop moving, as if everything around is one huge sparkling carousel. You go out for bread - and run into a series of iridescent towers that are already growing around the next corner. You go with a serious face to solve the issue with documents (more on that later), and somewhere behind you, singing fountains come in with might and main. I am completely silent about the embankment and the old city. In the evenings, there is some kind of impromptu performance on almost every corner.

Old Batumi, Chacha Time bar and one of the local skyscrapers

And the capital of Adjara is a city that is literally changing before our eyes. A place where a construction crane or the cement frame of some new house strives to fit into every frame. Therefore, writing about the sights of Batumi is a thankless thing. In a year or two, this list will still grow with a good dozen new items. During Saakashvili's time, this city was declared something like a national project. And since then, in just 10 years, the appearance of Batumi has changed beyond recognition. What this city will be like in another ten years, I can only guess. Well, now I will present to your attention my selection of Batumi sights and tell you how I saw this city in September 2016. Ready? Well then let's go!

Piazza square

The young heart of the old city. One of the tourist business cards of Batumi. And for me personally, it’s just a beautiful place with an abundance of tables and various street performances, which I personally met here almost every day. What does it look like in practice? You are sitting in a cafe, drinking your favorite Zedazeni lemonade (with the taste of tarragon), and all sorts of people suddenly start to flock to the center of the square. Another second and this series of people suddenly starts to dance something. Looks funny and very cool. Therefore, do not be surprised if, in a minute or two, you suddenly decide to join them. Then the music stops, applause sounds, and you all go back to your tables - drink Zedazeni and listen to unobtrusive jazz.

Oh yes… Batumi’s Piazza is also a great place for photo shoots. Just don't try to photograph it while standing below (then people, columns constantly climb into the frame, and the tower itself turns out to be a little crooked). Instead, go up the spiral staircase near The Quiet Woman pub (if the gates are closed, just climb over them, nobody really cares about keeping order here). There is an open area with a balustrade and a great view of the square. This is where the photos come from. Cool, isn't it?

How to find Piazza? Follow the signs in the city or use the MAPS.ME app. This program was created by Belarusian specialists and is a collection of offline maps with a GPS navigation system. Set the required direction and follow the arrows. Everything is very simple.

Church of St. Nicholas

One of the oldest churches in the city, covered on all sides with expensive souvenir shops. As the Internet says, she is already more than a century and a half. Although personally, I usually have a rather cool attitude to various encyclopedic information and dates. What I really liked was the frescoes on the walls and the very style of building this church. Georgians, after these words, will probably let me have a barbecue, but as for me, many churches in Georgia are very similar to each other. And this church is at least a little different. I'm thumbs up.

Of the minuses - numerous beggars constantly hang out next to the church. Dirty gypsies are especially annoying.

How to find this church? It is located on Parnavaz Mepe (King Parnavaz) street, 20. Directly opposite the Piazza.

For fans of more artsy western architecture, there is an option to take a stroll to the side Chavchavadze street (house 25). There is the Batumi Cathedral of the Most Holy Theotokos, the construction of which began in 1897.

It is also a very beautiful building. I like. Although the area around it is not the most pleasant.

Square "Europe" and the statue of Medea

Another beautiful place. In the center of the square there is a nice fountain with which tourists take pictures, a large street clock and a statue of an ancient Colchis princess holding the Golden Fleece in her hands (is that it or again the menu of some local restaurant?).

To tell the truth, Medea herself seemed to me somehow disproportionately thin. But I liked the fountains. I even ran under them a few times (although someone else won the wet T-shirt contest anyway).

I would also put a healthy like on the beautiful palace on the opposite side of the square. I understand that this is new. And I understand that it may even seem unnecessarily pretentious and tasteless to someone. But for the fact that the Georgians are trying to make their city brighter and more beautiful, they are already worthy of respect. Oh yeah… The astronomical clock on the tower is also great.

Of the minuses, I would note the huge building of some new hotel, which rises above the square from the opposite side. A sort of Batumi "House near Trinity". Well, okay let's move on.

How to find Europe Square? From King Parnavaz Street we turn onto Gamsakhurdia Street and further to Abashidze Avenue. This walk takes about five minutes. Again, if you wish, you can use the MAPS.ME mobile navigator and look at street signs.

Fountain of Neptune

Another attraction of Batumi, which regularly appears on tourist postcards from this city. Although, in my opinion, photographing this fountain is completely wrong. Yes, the fountain is named after Neptune. Yes, a man with a naked butt in the city center is a priori interesting and funny. But look below! The main advantage of this fountain is not Neptune himself, but his companions. Damn ... Find them, and you yourself will understand everything. Half-naked women with legs in the form of a fish tail and cheerful trickles of water that splash from them (hmm ... let's say) right from the mammary glands ...

Fucking shield... If you see this, your life will never be the same again. I just don't know how to unsee it.

How to find? From Europe Square, turn up onto Gamsakhurdia Street.

Wonder Park and Alphabet Tower

Alphabet tower, entwined with the letters of the Georgian alphabet, is a very strange building, but at the same time very unusual. Like our National Library. It stands not far from the Batumi embankment and marks the beginning of the so-called "Park of Miracles", which, in addition to the tower itself, includes several other attractions. Wander there in the evening - it is not difficult to find them all. There is a Ferris wheel (3 GEL), and some unusual sculptures, and the Batumi lighthouse, and cool benches in the form of pebbles. In the evenings, all city skyscrapers are beautifully lit up with many lights. Therefore, Tanya and I really liked spending time here.

By the way, you can even go up to the Alphabet Tower (although it is not cheap - 8 lari, which is about 3.5 dollars). There is an observation deck with not the cleanest windows and an expensive restaurant. Don't think that I didn't like it though. Inside the ball tower looks very impressive. Like some kind of huge spaceship hovering over the city and the sea. In my opinion, it is worth going there rather for the sake of the tower itself, and not for the lookout.

How to find? Alphabet tower is visible from almost all points of the city. From the fountain of Neptune, go forward towards the theater. Around the next corner will already be SHE. You won't miss it.

Other skyscrapers in Batumi

In general, the architecture of Batumi is just an open day in a madhouse. Porticos, pipes, registry offices in the form of pigs, giant spiers on the towers and, on top of everything else, a Ferris wheel built into the body of one of the local skyscrapers on the nth floor. On the one hand, it's a complete mess. On the other hand, it is this bit of healthy madness that adds some special zest to modern Batumi. And the twisted spiral of the Alphabet tower is just the beginning of it all.

For me personally, the empty building of the Batumi Technological University (photo above) has become the main symbol of all this unbridled eclecticism. I won’t argue, this building is interesting and pretty - only the spire is a bit short. As far as I know, this tower is often called the tallest building in all the countries of the Caucasus. They would stretch the spire another 500 meters. Why waste time on trifles? Let the Burj Khalifa cry.

The unusually normal skyscraper next to the university tower is called the Batumi System Tower. The undulating building next to it is the Radisson Hotel. On its top floor, there is an excellent Clouds restaurant, which offers a breathtaking view of the city. I also liked the view from the outdoor area of the Hilton restaurant. From there you can see all the skyscrapers of the city. And yes, it's cool in general.

How to find? Next to Alphabet Tower.

Ali and Nino

One of the main symbols of the city is the rotating sculptures of two lovers, which either merge into one, then diverge again. A complete rotation of the sculptures takes about 5 minutes. The exposition is dedicated to the heroes of the novel of the same name, which tells about the love of an Azerbaijani Muslim boy and a Georgian Christian girl.

I do not want to scatter big words, but the sculpture of Ali and Nino is really a very cool thing. Possibly the best sculpture I have ever seen in my life. Bright idea, good execution, deep subtext. At least, right off the bat I can’t remember anything better ... Except maybe Lenin spinning on Sovetskaya Square in Grodno ... Or was it from drinking too much? Hm…

How to find? On the embankment near the Ferris wheel.

Other sights of Batumi I will briefly note ...

Chachi tower

Behind the ferris wheel in the middle of a spacious lawn. I passed this place dozens of times, but did not even pay attention to it. I found out that this was some kind of special structure when I returned home. And even at first I was upset that I didn’t try the free chacha (if someone doesn’t know, this is such a Georgian vodka). Although later it turned out that chacha appears there only for 15 minutes a week. When exactly this miracle happens, I never found out. And I have never seen special queues near this place. In short, a divorce. If you pass by, pass by. Or did someone really drink chacha there? Write in the comments, please.

Singing Fountains

A very beautiful and bright show, woven from a thin interweaving of water, light and beautiful melodies by Christophe Beck, Queen and Frank Sinatra. Of the pluses, I would note the excellent repertoire of fountains, the synchronous movements of water, which really echoes the flow of music, and the beautiful lighting, matched to the tone of the melodies. Of the minuses ... I have not found them yet. In my opinion, the singing fountains in Batumi can give a hundred points to their colleagues from the capital of Georgia. However, see for yourself...

Batumi McDonald's

Remember, this summer I wrote that I was very struck by the old and some even slightly grotesque McDonald's in the Serbian city of Subotica? Didn't read? Then be sure to find this report among our materials. You'll like it.

Why am I writing all this in an article about the sights of Batumi? Yes, it’s just in this Georgian city that I came across another interesting restaurant of this company - the most modern, elegant and futuristic McDuck that I have ever seen.

It is located on Sheriff Khimshiashvili Street, near the local House of Justice. By the way, this is also a very interesting building. About him below.

House of Justice

House of Justice on the right. On the other side is one of the local residential complexes.

The dream of a Belarusian lawyer and indeed of any person who has ever dealt with the solution of certain legal issues in our country. You need to register a company - you are here. Register your property here. Get Married Here. In short, everything you need in one place. And also the Batumi House of Justice is just a beautiful and original building (next to the local Alley of Heroes). Not far away is the local McDonald's, singing fountains and just such an upside down house.

Unusual sculptures of Batumi

Get them out of here. Here, for example, giant shoes on the embankment, in which, if desired, you can take a picture.

Almost my size. Almost no joke.

And here are some more - in the opposite part of the city, near the Euphoria Hotel. It will be a little more difficult to take pictures in them.

Also in Batumi there is a spinning girl next to Justice's house. Photogenic inscription "Liberte" ... And a somewhat more brutal inscription "Where", made of some kind of rusty metal.

I would also advise fans of romance to look for various sculptures of lovers depicting different periods of relationships. In one exposition, lovers kiss, in another they give each other their hearts, and in a third they play golf with the same heart.

How to find? All sculptures are scattered in different parts of the seaside promenade. Walk along the sea from the city center in the direction of the airport, and you will constantly catch the eye of one or the other sculptures. Alternatively, you can do this journey by bike. Personally, we rented it for an hour for 3 GEL. But usually they ask for 5-6 GEL for bikes. In short, bargain. This is Georgia.

An article about what to do in Batumi in the rain and good weather. Entertainment in the Adjarian capital, the most interesting places in the city and its most unusual features, which are unlikely to be written about in tourist guides. 11 best ways to make your vacation in Batumi interesting and memorable.

Most recently, I wrote a long article about the main attractions of the beach capital of Georgia. There it was about the most beautiful and unusual places in Batumi. - there are a lot of interesting things in it. Why am I writing all this now? I explain: this article will simply be a kind of continuation of the previous one. But if in my last review it was about what is worth, first of all, look in Batumi. Now I will write about what is definitely worth do in the main city of Georgian Adjara. Where to go? In what institutions to spend time? Where to take the most impressive pictures? And how to get lunch and dinner for two people for just 1 lari? Have I intrigued you? Well then let's go ... So: what to do in Batumi ... Let's go in order.

Go to the beach to swim in the sea and watch the sunset

Yes, yes, I understand, I am with this item as Captain Obvious. But Batumi is, first of all, the sea. So I couldn't help mentioning it. To tell the truth, the beaches in the capital of Adjara are not the best. The coastal strip can be a little dirty at times. And the Black Sea in the Batumi region is seriously inferior in cleanliness, for example, to the Montenegrin Adriatic, where Tanya and I were in July this year.

For clear sea and cozy beaches, it is best to go to Batumi suburbs - Gonio, Kabuleti, Ureki, etc. Well, in the city itself, the best beaches can be found in the area of Miracle Park and the city center. I repeat - in the suburbs the sea is better. But of the city beaches, I liked this one the most.

But the beaches of the central part of Batumi (opposite - Orbi Sea Towers) are perfect for those who like to watch the sunset. Tanya and I lived just in this area of the city. And I assure you - it is here in Batumi that the brightest and juiciest sunsets are. The only negative is that the sun sets over the sea rather quickly. Therefore, before you go to the beach, be sure to check the sunset time on the Internet.

How to get to the beaches: on buses No. 1 and No. 10. They just walk along the coastline from one beach to another.

Take a photo with an airplane in the background

Believe me, looking at the huge colossus flying right over your head is really impressive and very cool. I ran behind this shot for probably three days. But to be honest, I don't regret it at all. Although, if I hadn’t been dumb, I could have just looked up the flight schedule on the Internet (as I, in fact, did, in the end). During the hot months, there are always a lot of planes with tourists arriving on vacation in Batumi. But in October, I had to run a lot for good shots. Although, in my opinion, it was still worth it.

How to get there: on the same bus number 10. Personally, we drove to the Euphoria Hotel. But if you want, you can go one stop further. Then you walk to the very last bench on the promenade. Turn on the camera, set the desired settings and wait for the plane. And keep in mind: you need to take pictures quickly. Airplanes don't really listen when you tell them: "Freeze... don't blink... add more passion in your eyes"... Or something like that... Models of them are rather mediocre.

Take a look at one of the local wineries

Personally, I have been in such places almost regularly. They have their own special magic. Its unique atmosphere. Your charm. And its own attraction. In fact, these are real temples of wine. There is just an incredible amount of it. Among the Batumi wineries, I personally liked the store of the Kakhetian winery "Khareba" the most (on Gamsakhurdia street, near Europe Square). And a small shop "Tasting Events" on Kostava street.

They are completely different. But each of them is good in its own way. I liked Tasting Events for its informal atmosphere and external design, which for some reason reminded me of ... (don't be surprised) ... my favorite Vilnius hostel. And “Winery Khareba” I remember with the indescribable atmosphere of its lower hall. Just imagine: austere tables in a small wine cellar, subdued lights, unhurried melodies of Western blues and hundreds of bottles of wine that literally look at you from everywhere. Again I repeat: I really liked the atmosphere of this place. It is difficult to convey with words.

What else you need to know about Georgian wineries?

  • In almost all of them you will be offered a free tasting.
  • Sometimes tastings turn into feasts.
  • Drunk sommeliers are not uncommon in Georgia.
  • The cost of a bottle of wine starts from 4 lari and goes up to infinity. Draft wine is cheaper than bottled wine of the same variety, so I bought it “for myself”. The average cost of a bottle is 10-15 GEL. One euro - three lari (2019).
  • Among relatively inexpensive wines, pay attention to Kindzmarauli (8-15 GEL) and Alazani Valley (7-8 GEL).
  • Purchased wine can be drunk on the spot. At its core, wine cellars are a mixture of a shop and a restaurant. That's just with snacks in such establishments strained. Personally, Tanya and I, after a month in Georgia, have already come there with our chocolate bar.

Try Batumi beer (we continue the topic of alcohol)

Not everyone knows about its existence among Belarusian tourists. But the locals just love it. I myself once saw with my own eyes a man who in a restaurant scolded the saleswoman with might and main for the fact that she was importing Tbilisi, not Batumi, beer into her establishment. It (according to extremely unconfirmed information) is allegedly made from some kind of super-mega pure water. Therefore, all other beer is not beer. But Batumi is just the nectar of the gods. I emphasize: in this case, this is practically a quote.

Personally, I did not find anything special in it. Yes, good beer. It looks like our Zhigulevskoye. There are no dark varieties at all. Only the regular pale lager is sold. It costs 1.9 GEL per liter plus the cost of the bottle itself.

To be honest, there are much more products of the Batumi brewery, I liked the atmosphere around it. Everywhere tables, cheap bars, men selling dried fish ... In short, Back in USSR, as the Beatles sang. If the aristocratic Georgian wine is not to your liking, but your heart asks for something primordially proletarian, then you will definitely like the “beer street” of Batumi. In the evenings, it is noisy and cheerful here: someone sings, someone chats, someone knocks on a Georgian drum. The atmosphere of a cheerful feast, in short, is provided to you.

How to find: Tbel-Abushridze, 24, near the monument "Gate of the Sea".

Take a look at the Chacha Time bar

I have already dragged something out with the topic of alcohol ... Therefore, now it is very fast. Tale about Georgian grape vodka - chacha. It is generally not bred with anything and is traditionally drunk in the form of shots. Often this drink is prepared in the villages using a semi-handicraft method (like our moonshine). Therefore, there are cases when, having tried it, people remain, to put it mildly, dissatisfied. My Tanya, for example, couldn’t even stand the smell of her at all.

To remedy the situation, an interesting bar called “Chacha Time” appeared in Batumi, where they offer to taste various chacha sets, listen to a lecture about each type of this drink, and also try all sorts of cocktails based on it. Believe me, after visiting this institution, your opinion about chacha will change dramatically. The drinks here are selective. As a nice bonus - various promotions, discounts and "happy hours" with chacha for one lari. If suddenly your holiday in Batumi is overshadowed by the rains (and they will), this bar is a great way to pass the time.

How to find: in the old town, address Giorgi Mazniashvili St, 5.

That's it - not a word more about alcohol ... Now about food.)))

Try Georgian cuisine

She's very unique and delicious. There are a lot of dishes. Restaurants too. Therefore, I will immediately highlight the most popular dishes, which, in my opinion, are worth trying first.

Chizhik-Pyzhik.

Homemade dish with eggs, tomatoes, herbs, peppers, adjika and other ingredients. Something between a soup and a second course. It kind of tastes like tomato soup. I liked it very much.

Adjarian khachapuri- the main symbol of Batumi cuisine. Bun in the form of a boat with "fried eggs" in the center. You need to eat like this: first mix the filling until a homogeneous mass, and then tear off the dough and dip it there. Delicious, but oh so satisfying. Even a small khachupuri can be difficult to eat.

Salad with tomatoes, cucumbers and walnuts.

Tasty. Tanya constantly ate. Nuts give the salad an unusual shade.

Chashushuli.

Juicy veal dish. Served in a pot. I ate it once at the Tabla restaurant. Liked. On the Internet they write that it must certainly be sharp. But I didn't notice any particular sharpness in it. Should this be noted when ordering? Don't know.

Mushrooms on ketsi.

Mushrooms in a pot stuffed with cheese and something else. Yummy. I'm thumbs up.

Chicken skewers (in some kind of sweetish sauce).

Generally a miracle. Even if it gets a little stuck in the teeth. Ate once at the Tower restaurant.

About the dishes that I did not like, I decided not to write. And so this article about holidays in Batumi turns out to be huge.

Where to eat: among all the establishments in the city, I most often visited the Shemoikhede Genacvale restaurants (8 Noe Zhordania St), the Tabla cafe on Griboedova and in an unnamed establishment near our house (on General Abashidze, 5). There, next to the auto repair shop, there was a small home restaurant where a sweet grandmother worked, who, in fact, cooked all sorts of Georgian delicacies for us. There are many more inexpensive and good cafes "for locals" in the area of the brewery.

See the performance of the singing fountains

From bodily food to spiritual food. I liked the singing fountains in Batumi very much. The show is beautiful, bright and (importantly) free. I would also note the excellent selection of music and the rhythmic movements of the water. They work only in good weather. Located next to the Palace of Justice, near the Alley of Heroes. You can take the same buses number 1 and 10.

Take a look at the panorama of Batumi from above

In the capital of Adjara, there are several interesting points at once, from which a beautiful view of the surrounding neighborhoods opens up.

Option number one take a ride on the Ferris Wheel in Wonderland Park. This pleasure costs 3 lari (about 1 euro).

Option number two- Climb to the observation tower of the Alphabet. It costs more - as much as 8 lari. However, inside the tower looks very picturesque - like a huge spaceship that hovered at a height right above the sea and the city.

Option number three– go to the nearest suburb and climb to the observation deck of Mount Sameba. There is a beautiful temple of the Holy Trinity. And yes, it is a very nice and colorful place. I wrote about him recently. Read.

Drive through the suburbs

Waterfall in Sarpi. Not far from the Turkish border.

In general, Adjara is considered to be not the most interesting region of Georgia in terms of historical and natural attractions. But if you wish, you can find a lot of interesting things here. I already wrote about the Church of the Holy Trinity on Mount Sameba in a previous article. Therefore, now I will briefly go over other sights of the region. Of the interesting things, there is a Roman one, beautiful and no less picturesque, which I personally liked the most. Another striking attraction of Adjara is the Batumi Botanical Park with a green cape overgrown with some unrealistic amount of greenery. You can go to each of these places for 1-2 lari from Batumi by public transport. So don't overpay for nothing. And avoid private taxi drivers.

Green Cape in Batumi Botanical Garden.

A little later, about each attraction that we visited, I will write a large detailed report. We've been through almost everything here. The only thing I regret is that we did not manage to look into the beach village of Ureki. This is a beautiful place with some special magnetic sand. Maybe one of you was there? Tell me, did you like it there?

Drive to Turkey

If you are a particularly adventurous traveler (like me), you can go even further and take half a day to neighboring Turkey. As a bonus, get another stamp in your passport, go to duty free and drink Turkish tea in a small provincial town called Hopa. What are the sights there? Yes, none. It is worth going there for the sake of Turkish flavor, oriental sweets and good shops. And when buying any dish in the Turkish cafes of Hopi and Batumi, tea is poured for free without restrictions. I bought myself a couple of cakes and then you sit and drink tea for two hours.

Go to the Batumi casino

If you have little money, this is just a great opportunity to have a great evening, free drinks and delicious food in a pleasant environment. Well, in addition to everything, play on the machines. I spied this life hack in the program “Heads and Tails. Shopping”, and then tried it twice on myself. Everything is working. I swear on my membership card of the Belarusian Republican Youth Union.

What is the essence of this focus? The thing is that the best casinos in Batumi provide both a free buffet and free drinks for their customers. All that is required of you is simply to be a client of the desired casino. Well, then ... a little ingenuity, a little arrogance, plus completely turned off excitement (!!!) - and you have in your hands the cherished ticket to nirvana.

As Tanya and I did in this case? They dressed beautifully, made a serious face and bought a special check at the casino cash desk for playing slot machines. As a rule, I bought a check for 20-30 GEL. However, if you are embarrassed about something and don’t want to look stupid, you can invest absolutely any amount in this business (if you don’t lose your head, all this money can then be taken back). The best way to play is slot machines. Here, the minimum rates are the lowest (as a rule - 10 tetri, these are Georgian kopecks). Of course, most of the time you will safely drain your money. But I repeat: if you do not lose your head, you can lose very, very slowly. Personally, I usually lost at a rate of 10 GEL per hour. At the same time, any win returns you to your original positions again, or at least brings you closer to them. Therefore, in a strong minus (more than 15 GEL) for three evenings, I never left at all.

The secret here, in fact, is only one: play ONLY slot machines and lose as slowly as possible (because I lost seven dollars in roulette in two and a half minutes). At the same time, you order beer, coffee, wine, nuts, take free sweets from the tables, drink tea, chat with waitresses. Then you take a break - and run to the buffet. There are soups, fruits, different salads and, again, a lot of different cakes. Most importantly, keep in mind that you came here to eat and drink, and not to win money. Casinos are dangerous. But with proper skill for the evening together, you can drain one lari. About free alcohol and salads that you rely on for this money, I have already said.

Blogger Vladimir Zhoga writes:

Batumi is one of the closest and cheapest alternatives to our Black Sea resorts. The same sea, the same beach, the same people, the same vacation, just another country. I have already written about the pros and cons of Batumi as a beach resort and today I want to continue the topic.

Suppose you have chosen Batumi as your summer holiday destination. What to do there? What to see? Where to go? What to try? Where to walk? And in general, what is there?

I offer a list of things that in my opinion must be done in Batumi! Especially if you are in Georgia for the first time!

Sunbathe and swim!!!

Trite? Yes. But after all, by and large, we are going to Batumi precisely for the sake of the sea. For if we don’t need the sea, then why go to Batumi at all ???

If you are not afraid of pebble beaches and slippery jellyfish - you will definitely like it in Batumi! The beach here is long, there is a lot of space, not crowded, and the sea, compared to some of our resorts, seemed to me a little cleaner.

Eat delicious khinkali, crispy khachapuri and wash it all down with tart Saperavi

Well, we are in Georgia, which means we need to enjoy its rather modest, but very tasty cuisine. I ate Georgian khinkali almost every day, and khachapuri is generally a Georgian brand! By the way, the most delicious Adjarian khachapuri in Batumi is served at the Tserodena cafe, which is located at Melikishvili 4, to the left of the entrance to the May 6 Park. Be sure to try it, you won't regret it!!!

Walk along the "European" streets of Batumi and drink coffee on Piazza

Yes, yes, being a fan of old Europe, Saakashvili built here a small decorative "Europe" in the Italian style, and the main attraction of this part of Batumi is, of course, Piazza, which is made in the Venetian style and is a small copy of San Marco. The place is very beautiful, but the restaurants here are not the cheapest, I would even say the most expensive (and according to rumors, not the most delicious). But you always have to pay for beauty! Therefore, you can just drink coffee in a beautiful place.

Ride a bike along the boardwalk

Batumi embankment I would call one of the main attractions of the city. Very long, very beautiful and very well-groomed. There is always something to do here. In the evening, this is the main place for walks and the city promenade, and in the morning and afternoon it is a great place for sports! A long bicycle and running track has been built along the entire embankment. Velik can be taken almost anywhere. There are special machines, as in Europe, with tourist bikes, but it’s better not to bother with a machine and rent a bike from one of the rental bikes that are here at every turn. And we ride .... The track is gorgeous: on the one hand the sea, on the other the city ... Nobody interferes, cars do not drive, pedal and enjoy the walk !!!

Take a picture against the backdrop of sculptures on the embankment

We don't leave the waterfront. There is more to do here. For example, take a picture against the backdrop of numerous sculptures that are installed along its entire length. Many sculptures are made just to be photographed with them. Sculptures of different styles - from classic to modern. I didn’t really bother, but during the bike ride I saw how many of them and how interesting they can be beaten. This is much better and more interesting than being photographed against the backdrop of trees, bushes and walls.

Play at the casino

In general, Saakashvili initially conceived of Batumi not as a resort city for a beach holiday, but as a “Las Vegas” of a local spill. Luxurious hotels were built here, each of which has a casino downstairs! Misha expected that oil rich people from Baku, Turkey and other nearby regions would go to Batumi to squander their money. Wealthy people didn’t come across much, but the casino was built. Big and beautiful! So, if this topic is close to you, Batumi is perfect for this) I don’t have extra money, so I only saw them from the outside) But I can say one thing for sure - there are a lot of them here and they all work.

Climb the ruins of an old fortress

There is also a historical landmark in Batumi - the famous Gonio fortress.

It is located a little away from Batumi, but you can easily get to it by regular bus. The fortress is small, but it exists! I think history buffs will love it here. Again, it is necessary to somehow diversify the beach holiday. And in order to spend an hour or two in the afternoon during the sun itself, this fortress is a great place!

Visit the botanical garden

And for lovers of nature and greenery, a must-see place is the Batumi Botanical Garden!

The garden is located north of Batumi near the village of Mtsvane. Unfortunately, I did not get to the garden, although I really wanted to. I only saw its outskirts when I was driving from Svaneti to Batumi. According to all the reviews and photos, this is a wonderful green garden, which would be great to walk around. In addition, the garden is located on the mountain and offers gorgeous views from it. In general, you should definitely set aside half a day and go here!

Go to the theater

Now a little cultural rest. There is a beautiful and modern theater in Batumi, where many famous troupes and groups come on tour. Especially during the tourist season. And since there is nothing much to do in Batumi in the evening except for the embankment and the casino, why not go to the theater? Spiritual food is always needed!

View the unique Orthodox church in the form of a Catholic cathedral

Yes, yes, there is such an attraction in Batumi - the Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary Batumi.

The Catholic church was built in 1903, then half destroyed under Soviet rule and used for various purposes, except for religious. Then they decided to restore it. The Catholics allocated money and began reconstruction, but when the temple was restored, the Georgians decided that, despite its appearance, it would still be Orthodox (!) And transferred it to the Georgian Orthodox Church. A very unusual building - on the outside is a reduced copy of the French Notre Dame, and inside is a classic Orthodox church with Catholic walls.

Ten things in Batumi, of course, are not enough, but this is the format of my post: I said 10, so 10!

Although Batumi is full of interesting things that you can and even need to do, for example, you can ride a Ferris wheel.

Lovers of "strong" can drink from the "fountain of chacha"...

Climb the Alphabet Tower...

Cool off in the fountain at Europe Square...

And you should definitely go to the mountains! But this is already quite far from Batumi ...

That's all. You can safely go to Batumi, there is definitely something to do and what to see!

The Georgian city of Batumi - the capital of Adjara - is one of the best resorts on the Black Sea coast. Its attractions are numerous and varied, and entertainment will delight representatives of all ages and classes.

What to see in Batumi?

When Saakashvili was president, the development of Batumi was given a solid impetus - the city was declared one of the priority national projects of Georgia. Over the past decade, the appearance of the resort has fundamentally changed.

Skyscrapers have grown over the Old City, world hotel chains have built luxury hotels here. The city is full of interesting places - these are museums, parks, monuments, temples and squares. Where to begin?

Museums in Batumi

The history of Batumi has more than one hundred years. It is introduced in detail in museums:

Already in this century was discovered Museum of Religions named after D. Komakhidze, which presents exhibits related to all confessions present in Batumi, as well as the Technological Museum of the Nobel Brothers.

Religions of Batumi

Despite the diversity and combination of modernity and antiquity, spontaneity and strict classics, the inhabitants of Batumi remain true to their religions. Representatives of the Christian, Muslim and Jewish denominations live here. Fans of temple architecture have something to see:

All of them are open to the public at any time of the day and are completely free.

City walks

For ease of movement around the city and sightseeing of interesting sights of Batumi in the tourist information centers, you can purchase guide in Russian. There you will be answered any question of interest.

The guide contains detailed information about restaurants and cafes, prices for food and entertainment.

It also contains names, addresses and descriptions of attractions, a map and directions. He will help you plan your vacation and decide what is worth seeing in Batumi in the first place.

Romantic monuments and places

Romantic holidays in Batumi are already becoming a tradition. It is not for nothing that it is called the city of love. On Batumi boulevard you can see large metal statues with hearts that have become the hallmark of the city.

The embankment is decorated with an unusual sculpture - the statue of Love. This is the most romantic piece of art in the city. Its name is "Ali and Nino". Symbolizing the desire to be together, the two statues are constantly moving, now approaching, and, as it were, merging with each other, then diverging again.

Many declarations of love and marriage proposals are kept by:

Another romantic attraction of the resort is the Ferris wheel. A kiss at its highest point creates a special mood, especially in the evening, when everything around is flickering with lights.

Squares of Batumi

If you like to sit in a cafe and slowly drink local lemonade or a cup of coffee, go to the square piazza reminiscent of the cozy squares of Italy. Here you can suddenly become a spectator and even a participant in a performance or arrange a photo shoot.

small beautiful Europe square with the statue of Medea symbolizes the connection between East and West. It is located in the center of the city and is one of the objects that visitors must visit.

Another favorite tourist spot is Theater Square and the Neptune Fountain. It's always crowded next to it. Here is the Batumi Drama Theater with majestic traditional architecture for Soviet times.

Parks are my favorite place

Parks are another distinctive feature of Batumi. There are several of them, and they are very different. - this is a territory with a large number of rare plants, consisting, as it were, of separate corners. There is also entertainment, and walking alleys and a place where you can retire and relax.

Miracle Park destroys the traditional idea of shady urban gardens. Instead of trees, complex structures rise here. In general, it is the focus of many attractions of Batumi. Here it is:

You can relax in the park on huge boulders that replace ordinary benches. And here you can ride skateboards and rollerblades or rent bicycles.

The Seaside Park stretches along the northwestern part of the city, divided into five large alleys. Between them - well-groomed lawns and numerous cafes. There are singing fountains, attractions, playgrounds, tennis courts and clubs. The entrance to the park is decorated with the famous Batumi colonnade. This is where tourists go in the first place.

Batumi can rightly be attributed to the park areas. Botanical Garden, occupying an area comparable to the reserve - 113 hectares. The garden is more than 100 years old, it has a unique collection of plants - more than 5,000 species. Behind the park there is a great beach, so you can combine a walk with a swim.

For those wishing to stay overnight in the park, there is a campsite.

For tourists, special routes have been laid and there are places for recreation. The park is located in the vicinity of Batumi, you can get here by a suburban bus.

Highlights of the city

walking along seaside park near the Sheraton hotel you can come across a tiny lake with beautiful birds - swans, peacocks and pelicans. The “bird” territory is fenced, but this does not prevent vacationers, especially small ones, from hand-feeding them and even stroking them.

At the beginning of the Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Alley, there is a Rotation sculpture depicting a woman reunited with a man. Behind it is the famous transparent House of Justice. The alley itself was created in honor of the Arab sheikh, who gave Batumi tens of thousands of palm trees.

One of the most significant sights of Batumi - astronomical clock. They show not only the time, but also the location of the constellations, planets, sun and moon. In general, there is a special love for watches in Batumi. They decorate the Chacha Fountain, the Sheraton Hotel, there is a musical clock in Piazza and a sunny clock in the 6 May Park.

Surroundings of Batumi

For inquisitive tourists, excursions to neighboring villages and remarkable places are organized. In the mountain village of Khulo are interesting:

You can get here by bus or minibus, distance - 100 km from Batumi, on the way - 2 hours.

In the vicinity of the resort it is worth visiting the national park Mtirala. It will delight lovers of untouched nature with the Colchis forest, many Red Book plants, a boxwood grove and old chestnut houses.

Very interesting place - cave city Vardzia(XII century). Carved into the rock, it stretched for a kilometer along the Kura. It has 600 rooms on 8 floors. Once there were living rooms, libraries, chapels, a first-aid post and even a temple.

A strong earthquake destroyed most of the city, only fragments of it have survived to this day. You can get to Vardzia from Tbilisi and Batumi, although buses rarely go there.

Georgia is still hospitable, cozy and very beautiful. Rest in Batumi will give pleasure to lovers of beach holidays, youth entertainment, natural beauties and connoisseurs of historical monuments.
