A bit of history

The Novodevichy Convent was founded in 1524 by Prince Vasily the Third in honor of the capture of Smolensk. This story has a second side: the monastery was founded after the dissolution of the prince's marriage, and he intended to exile his wife Solomonia here.

Initially, the monastery was wooden, but even then the walls and towers were admired for their beauty and height. The monastery is located in the bend of the Moscow River, guarding the crossing. Today the monastery is a real fortress with impregnable high walls, towers with loopholes. On the territory of the complex are located:
