What to visit in Sanya. What to see in Sanya - an overview of the best attractions in the city

The Chinese city of Sanya, the sights of which we will describe in our review, is able to amaze any tourist. This is a multi-valued resort where luxury hotels coexist with exotic flora, and from the windows of countless shopping malls you can enjoy views of the coastal zone or enjoy the contemplation of gorgeous mountain landscapes.

This settlement is the most southern on the island of Hainan, as well as in the entire Celestial Empire. Clear sea, year-round sunny abundance and a long beach strip make the city attractive for tourism and recreation. Here you can snorkel all day long, bask in the sun or try to conquer the waves on Sanya, which is interesting not only for its sights, but also for shops, shopping centers, souvenir shops and specialized boutiques. More than one tourist is unable to refrain from visiting these establishments.

Brief historical information about the city

The settlement owes its name to three rivers that flow through the entire city, merge and flow into the sea together, forming a symbol resembling the Chinese character Y. In the language of the country, it is pronounced like “I”. Rivers divide the city into three parts. And three in Chinese is pronounced like "San". And so the name "Sanya" appeared. And the word itself means "the confluence of three rivers." Sanya, whose sights are so beautiful, was known to mankind in the first century. Then it was even considered the end of the world.

Once the city was a remote, remote corner of the powerful Chinese empire. It was here that villains and other convicted persons were sent into exile. For people who have lived all their lives on the mainland, the tropical local climate was unusual. But this did not prevent the city from becoming an important trading center and taking an honorable place in the system of international relations of the Celestial Empire. Today, according to ecological criteria, Sanya (attractions are described below) ranks first in and second on the planet. The absence of industrial enterprises provides clean air, and the location of the city in the tropics suggests the absence of winter.

"Edge of the world" near Sanya

"Edge of the World" is a park that is located near Sanya. It is the most visited attraction. To call this place an ordinary park does not turn your tongue: it is a magnificent seashore covered with white sand with chaotically scattered smooth stones. They resemble overturned and abandoned boats, which in places are immersed in crystal clear water.

Sanya is famous for this amazing place. Attractions that are interesting to see are indicated in the article. And this one is no exception. In addition, this place is shrouded in intriguing legends. One of them tells that once the mythical king visited the park during his next journey. Seeing an unusual accumulation of smooth huge stones, the monarch was so struck by their magnificence that he called this place "The Edge of Heaven."

Sightseeing in Sanya

This is the Museum of Sea Shells. This object is especially popular among children. The museum was opened to the public in 2007. It gives tourists the opportunity to plunge into the ocean depths, get acquainted with the fantastic world of underwater inhabitants. Sanya, whose sights are replete with marine themes, is rich in such objects. The area of the museum is three thousand square meters. An exposition consisting of several hundred different mollusks and shells brought from tropical seas is on display here. The exhibitions on display in the museum include over five thousand types of shells and about two hundred varieties of sea corals.

Forward - on the cable car!

Many interesting things are hidden in Sanya. The sights, the photos of which are in our article, should be started to be viewed from This, at first glance, is an ordinary object. Its likeness is in many cities, but here it is a real sensation, a mega-popular attraction. The cable car in Sanya is an overwater way. In the Celestial Empire, it is very long. Its length is 2138 meters. The road is located above the strait in the South China Sea and connects Sanya with the island of monkeys called Monkey Island. Tourists just love the cable car. After all, from a great height, landscapes of incredible beauty open up. The object is equipped with four-seater open cabins.

A park with a twist

It is believed that it is located on the tall mountain Luheitou. Sanya can truly be proud of this place. Attractions (how to get there, we will tell further) never cease to amaze travelers. For example, this park. It is small, but its peculiarity lies in the stone statue of a deer that looks back. On both sides of the monument are a girl and a guy belonging to the Li tribe.

The composition reaches 12 meters. It reflects the history of the birth of the park. The pedestal also illustrates a wonderful legend: a young hunter pursued a deer until he drove the animal onto a sheer cliff. The guy was ready to pierce the beast with an arrow, as he looked back and turned into a girl of unearthly beauty. Hunter fell in love with her. She reciprocated and helped save the young man's mother from death.

Getting to places of culture

Due to the fact that Sanya has a small size, any tourist can see the sights on their own. So, to get to the park where the deer with its head turned back is located, you need to take bus number two, which goes through Liling Road all the way to the ticket stall of the object. And the bus number 25 goes to the Seashell Museum. Or you can get here by taxi. In general, you can get to any sight of the settlement by public transport.

Other attractions in Sanya

We have already presented you the most popular attractions in Sanya. But these are far from all the interesting places that you can see in the vicinity of this city on your own or during an excursion. Also, among the attractions of Sanya, it is worth adding all the bays located near the city (Yalunvan, Sanya Bay, Haitan and Dadonghai).
Other places of interest include: Monkey Islands, Frontiers, Phoenix, Fenjie and West Island, Luobi Cave, Baiyue Ethnic Culture Village, Li and Miao Cultural Heritage Park.
You can be sure that you will find something to see in Sanya. Most likely, you will face the question of what to choose from all this variety of attractions. Still, for a detailed study of all these places, at least two weeks are needed.

For a thousand years, Sanya, due to its remoteness from the political center of China, had a different name - Tianya Haijiao, which means "the place where the sky meets the sea." Once upon a time, disgraced officials were exiled to this corner of a huge empire. And today this city is one of the most popular resorts in Asia.

It's hard to believe, but back in the late 80s of the last century, Sanya was a simple fishing village. But with such a recreational potential, it was simply doomed to turn into a tourist Mecca: a tropical climate, endless white sand beaches, palm trees, and an azure sea. Isn't this heaven? The Chinese themselves call Sanya the pearl of the South China Sea. About five years ago this "pearl" was discovered by Russian tourists. And today Sanya already competes on equal terms with our brother with such popular destinations as Bali. Every winter, China's southernmost city experiences a real Russian invasion.

Three tourist whales

The name of the city of Sanya means "the confluence of three rivers." Tourists arriving in Sanya do not merge, but rather are divided into three streams. Someone stays in the city itself or in hotels located to the west of Sanya - in Sanya Bay. But this is not the most popular place, since hotels, as a rule, do not have their own beaches - you need to walk to them for some time. Yes, it is quite far from the city.

Fans of fun and noisy rest choose the resort area of Dadonghai. It is full of discos, bars, restaurants. And most importantly - a large selection of hotels for every taste and budget. By the way, the names of hotels in Dadonghai - "Mountains, Sea, Sky", "Sea, Sky", "Golden Phoenix" - will surely remind many of Suifenhe. However, the parallels end there. All coastal hotels are 4 and 5-star.

During the day, tourists bask on the beach (by the way, all the beaches in Dadonghai are municipal, which means they are open and accessible to everyone), and in the evening they fill numerous cafes, bars and restaurants. Here on the seashore is the largest seafood restaurant in Sanya. With the onset of dusk, resting people fill the so-called Mall - the area inside the shopping center, which turns into one large dining room. It is here that you can taste a variety of dishes at quite affordable prices.

And finally, those who love a quiet and respectable holiday go to Yalong Bay.

Real "stars"

In Yalunvan Bay, there are mainly five-star hotels with their own beaches and well-arranged territory. And these are not those dubious "five stars" that Chinese hotels sometimes like to brag about, having a bad habit of assigning them to themselves, but the most international ones. Judge for yourself: well, who has not heard of the Sheraton, Hilton or Marriott hotels? There are hotels of all well-known international chains in Yalun Bay. Choose any, you can't go wrong. The beauty of "networkers" is that they maintain a high level of service, wherever they are. Therefore, the Hilton hotel in China is in no way inferior to its counterpart in the same Thailand or. And often it surpasses, because the development of the island began relatively recently and most often the hotels are new.

As a rule, on the territory of each hotel in Yalun Bay there are three or four restaurants with Asian and European cuisine, swimming pools and water parks for adults and children, concert venues, parks and, of course, beaches.

Yalunwan Bay is famous for its clear sea water, white sandy beaches and bizarre cliffs. It is often referred to as "Eastern Hawaii". In October 1992, the National Tourist Resort was established in Yalong Bay. Its main attraction is the Central Square, on which a ritual granite pillar 26.8 meters high with figures of dragons, phoenixes and the spirits of the sun, wind, lightning and rain is installed. Around are stone figures illustrating folk tales, the lunar calendar and traditional Chinese culture.

Beneath the square is the Seashell Museum, which displays shells collected from the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. Some of them are very rare. To the east of the square in the gorge lies the valley of butterflies. You can't call an outstanding exhibition, but a walk in the valley itself is very pleasant. Tickets for the square, the Shell Museum and the Butterfly Valley are issued by many large hotels to guests free of charge.

Makarevich dived here

Russian tourists go to Sanya primarily for the warm sea and the hot sun. And because a lot of those who spend all the time on the beach. And there are more than enough beaches here. Sanya is 209 kilometers of coastline, 19 bays and almost 40 islands. Even in January the water temperature is about 25 degrees. In the first days after arrival, everyone without exception sparkles with the whiteness of their bodies, and after a couple of days, “Russo-touristos” all as one resemble boiled crayfish. Dorval to the free tropical sun ...

At the service of vacationers - water activities: skiing, parasailing, banana riding, pedal boats, jet skis, tropical fishing. Sanya is also a paradise for diving enthusiasts. The southern tip of Hainan Island, or rather the sea area, is China's largest coral reserve. Coral reefs attract many diving enthusiasts from all over the world. Andrey Makarevich, the most famous diver in Russia, also dived in these places.

Labor made a monkey ... an artist

Those who get bored of idle wallowing on the beach can go on an excursion. Moreover, there are a lot of interesting things in the vicinity of Sanya. What is one monkey island worth! Thousands of macaques live here in natural conditions.

They live well here: they constantly feed tourists and even have their own swimming pool. But for the offenders (special caretakers keep order) a special prison is provided. With my own eyes I saw a touching picture of how the girlfriend of one of the “zeks” was faithfully waiting for him at the gate of the “jailhouse”.

Every two hours, the arena hosts a show during which the monkeys perform acrobatic stunts, spin hoops, juggle, and even ride bicycles. However, the local goat is rightfully considered the main character of the performance. It is difficult for a person to learn to walk on a pole, but a bearded one does it with ease.

The funny thing is that, along with the "homosapiens", the macaques themselves are watching the performance with interest. True, they have not yet learned to applaud their brethren. By the way, everyone arriving on the island is greeted by a funny monument: a huge monkey looks thoughtfully at a human skull, which he holds in his hand. Just some kind of Hamlet!

Tourists get to Monkey Island by cable car. Along the way, you can admire the picturesque views of the bays, as well as see the floating village. The houses here literally stand (or rather, float) on the water. Local residents are engaged in fishing, growing shrimp and shellfish. If you wish, you can invite yourself to visit the inhabitants of the floating village.

Halfway between Sanya and Monkey Island is the folklore and ethnographic village of the Li and Miao peoples. Li are the original inhabitants of Hainan, they wear bright colors and straight long dresses, decorated with shells, corals, pearls and small bells. Miao are natives of the more northern region of Guangxi, who arrived at Hainan at one time along with the soldiers of the imperial army.

On the territory of the village there are traditional houses made of wood, clay and straw, workshops where residents weave traditional clothes and make souvenirs.

Tourists are shown various shows on separate stages. In one, the actors jumped on broken glass, climbed on sharp razors. And in the second, dwarfs demonstrated their skill in taming fire.

And fish massage...

On one of the days free from the beach “relaxation”, I recommend going to the hot springs.

Local "chip" - baths with various additives. For example, you can lie in the pool with green tea, coconut milk or coffee. There are also baths with rose petals.

But the most exotic and therefore the most popular is the pool with fish. Small, almost invisible fish (able to live almost in boiled water!) Feed on ... dead skin pieces. You lie down in the pool, and they start biting you. It doesn't hurt at all, but it's also helpful.

Fish therapy cures skin diseases, relieves stress, and has a beneficial effect on the skin. In addition, hot springs are curative for diseases of the musculoskeletal system, nervous diseases, relieve fatigue, and increase vitality. After a day at the hot springs, you feel reborn!

Excursion for happiness and good luck

Nanshan Buddhist Culture Theme Park is located 40 kilometers west of Sanya. It is famous primarily for the 108-meter statue of the goddess of mercy Guanyin standing right in the sea.

The Chinese are proud that it is the tallest in the world (of all the statues of this deity) and 15 meters taller than the American Statue of Liberty.

Nanshan is known far beyond the borders of China and attracts Buddhism fans from all over the world.

The territory of the park is huge. So much so that a special tourist tram runs along it. He goes past all the sights and makes stops at them. You can go out, take a walk, and then sit on the next train.

I was most struck by the abundance of greenery and flowers in Nanshan. Everywhere green sculptures and hundreds of thousands of flowers in pots. After the "bald" and gray Vladivostok, it was both joyful and sad to look at this diversity of colors.

If you want your secret wish to come true, buy a wooden table, write your wish on it and hang it on a tree.

Looking at the number of boards, you understand: people will never stop believing in miracles. Well, if you want happiness to come to you, hit the huge bell three times. Judging by the joyful faces of the hitters, at that moment they were definitely happy.

The deer turned its head

There are not so many attractions in Sanya itself. The most popular place among tourists (after the beaches, of course) is a mountain with a bizarre name "The deer turned its head." As the legend says, many centuries ago, a young hunter chased a deer for several days. And when he drove him to the top of the mountain and raised his bow to kill him, the deer turned its head and turned into a beautiful girl. What happened next is easy to guess.

Now on the top of the mountain there is a monument to a young man, a girl and a deer who turned his head.

You can climb the mountain by funicular. Although the "funicular" is one name. This is something between a sled and a bob. You are pulled up, and you can slide down by driving this sleigh yourself.

At the top there is an observation deck with a beautiful view of the city.

On both sides of the monument there are pretty squares - with a pond, bonsai trees, volcanic stones, swings, gazebos, sculptures and a dovecote.

I recommend to come here in the late afternoon and meet the sunset on the top of the mountain. Amazing spectacle! I also brought tropical fruits with me. Admiring the opening beauty and eating mangoes, lychees, mangosteens and rambutans, I felt like an absolutely happy person!

And finally, a selection of funny photos.

Yalong Bay is the main tourist beach of Sanya, stretching 7.5 km east of the city. Already one of them is enough to spend several days, resting all the time in different places. Another interesting beach is located at World's End Bay, Tianya-Haijao, a very romantic place with huge boulders, each of which is associated with its own legend.

The only, but unforgettable, man-made attraction of Sanya is the Nanshan Temple and the giant statue of the bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara.

Pirate Island is a very small island, but entirely a resort: it has everything for a beach holiday: an abundance of restaurants and hotels, all kinds of sports, beautiful corals, ideal for snorkeling. And Phoenix Island, which is closer to Sanya, is of a completely different kind: this artificial island was built following the example of the Dubai Palm Islands and with the same goals. Although it has not yet been completely built up, even today you can see the streamlined skyscrapers towering above it.

Luhuitou Park is located on the hill of the same name in the form of a deer turning around - this is how its name is translated.

This place is associated with a beautiful legend, and many young couples are sure to come here to hang a padlock or a ribbon, bringing vows of eternal love.

The Yanoda Rainforest Cultural Tourism Zone is located 35 km from Sanya. This is a newly opened park with beautiful scenery. Wooden paths are laid between thousand-year-old trees and rocks, and at the top of the hill there is a beautiful view of the park lake with lotuses.
