Catching perch in the winter on a mormyshka

In winter fishing, one of the most popular fish is perch. This is facilitated by its wide distribution, and the high activity of biting throughout the year. Despite the relatively small size (most often caught fish weighing 100-400 grams), interest in perch does not weaken - catching it is quite an exciting activity. Mormyshka fishing is one of the most common ways.

tackle

When going with a mormyshka for a winter perch, you should properly collect the tackle, as it can seriously affect the success of fishing. The main feature is that perch tackle should be as thin and sensitive as possible.

  1. Udilnik. The most common winter fishing rod about 30 cm long is enough. Many anglers use a simple “balalaika” - a short fishing rod with a reel attached to the end of the handle. It is she who acts as a handle.
  2. Coil. Any, convenient for the fisherman. On the "balalaika" the coil is already included. You can fix the fishing line just on the reel.
  3. Nod. There are no special requirements for it, you can use store-bought or homemade. The main rule is that the nod should not bend much under the weight of the nozzle. Therefore, if you use several mormyshkas of different weights, then you need to have various nods with you. Length - 4-6 cm, bending angle under the weight of the mormyshka - up to 30 degrees.
  4. Fishing line. It is selected according to the size of the fish. It should be as thin as possible for better mormyshka play and increase the sensitivity of the tackle. The usual size of a perch is 200-400 grams, so a monofilament line with a diameter of 0.10-0.14 mm is suitable. A thicker fishing line should be used only if you are likely to catch a large perch (over a kilogram).

Feed and bait

Lure. To better attract perch in winter, it is useful to feed the hole. You can do this in several ways:

  • Pour the bloodworm into the hole, and then lower the mormyshka after it.
  • Lower a transparent jar with a live bait floating inside to the bottom.
  • Take a rubber glove, pour fresh blood of livestock or poultry into it and tie it. In a glove, make a puncture and lower to the bottom of the hole. The train and the smell of blood will very well attract a predator that will peck at almost any mormyshka.

Chopped dung worm or pieces of fresh fish are also suitable as bait.
Bait. Despite the fact that perch in winter can be successfully caught with baitless mormyshkas, often anglers additionally use various baits:

  • bloodworm;
  • red dung worm;
  • caddisfly and dragonfly larvae;
  • pieces of fish (preferably perch) with a protruding fin.

Location selection

  • depth differences;
  • snags;
  • blockages of stones at the bottom;
  • eyebrows;
  • places near coastal vegetation.

The perch hunts from an ambush, so it can be in any places suitable for this during the first ice.
Wilderness. The thicker the ice becomes, the less dissolved oxygen remains in the water. In this regard, the perch is looking for places where the level of oxygen will be as high as possible:

  • deep holes;
  • underwater channels of rivers and streams flowing into a reservoir with a small current.

End of winter. During this period, the spring zhor begins in the fish, and it is activated again. The predator begins to move after the fry and often finds itself near the confluence of melt water and streams.

Mormyshka selection

A jig is a nozzle, which consists of a metal body (lead, tungsten, tin) of various shapes and a hook soldered into it.
Fishing for perch in winter with a mormyshka involves the use of two main types of lures:

  • non-attached (reelless) - fishing takes place on a bare hook;
  • jigs with replanting - bait clings to the hook.

The first option is more sporty, since the success of fishing depends only on the ability of the angler to play tackle. The final choice of the type of mormyshka for catching perch in winter is carried out directly on the pond during the fishing process.

Characteristics of mormyshka on perch

The choice of nozzle depends on many factors, such as fishing period, depth, weather conditions, fish size, biting activity. But it is possible to single out common characteristic points when choosing a perch mormyshka

The size. Perch is a small predator, respectively, mormyshki use a small size - from 1 to 4 mm. At the same time, the weaker the bite, the smaller the size of the bait.

The weight. When fishing at a depth of more than 2-3 meters, you should take a lure of 0.3 or more grams in weight. For shallower depths - up to 0.2 g. Also, heavy baits should be used when fishing in the current, so that the tackle does not take far from the baited hole.

Color. It is difficult to single out any one color, since perch preferences change depending on the fishing conditions:

Most often, the predator chooses yellow, purple and greenish mormyshki;
at a considerable depth (over 10 meters), the predator ceases to distinguish color and reacts only to the movement of gear;
in the early morning, bright light mormyshkas (for example, silver ones) are preferred, which by the middle of the day should be replaced with dimmer ones;
when fishing at depth, lures of gold and copper colors are suitable.

The most catchy models:

A drop;
crap;
pellet;
larva;
bulldozer;
cat's eye;
uralochka;
goat.

The choice of bait in different periods of winter

The behavior of the perch changes during the winter, which also affects the choice of mormyshka
1. Early winter. On the first ice, the perch's biting remains stably active, so you can safely use any tackle - reelless and with replanting. At the same time, a predator is caught even on large models.
2. middle. The predator is sluggish and doesn't move much, so small baits are used. Color and model is selected in the process of fishing.
3. End of winter. Perch activity increases significantly, but it still gives preference to small mormyshkas.

Tackle features

Mormyshka fishing is very popular due to the following features:
in winter, you can catch both small and large perches on a mormyshka;
high catchability of tackle, which depends directly on the game of the angler;
ideal for active sports fishing and requires the direct and constant participation of the angler in the process.

Catching Tactics

After you have chosen a fishing spot and drilled a sufficient number of holes (about 10), you should start fishing. Perch fishing techniques may vary depending on fish activity and conditions.
There are several ways to play mormyshka:

  1. Step wiring. The bait stops a meter from the bottom and then follows a smooth descent with simultaneous swaying to the sides. After touching the bottom, there is a short pause, during which a bite often follows. If it did not happen, then the mormyshka rises by 40-50 cm, the movement in a circle accelerates, after which it descends to the bottom with a pause. Repeated several times. Bite usually occurs during the third cycle when the bait is lifted.
  2. Wiring applicable for the end of the winter season. Fishing starts 70-80 cm from the ice edge. When the bait falls to the bottom, you should make a few taps on the ground to raise a cloud of turbidity. Pause briefly and tap again. After the bait rises slowly by 10-20 cm and sinks to the bottom. After 20-30 seconds, the cycle repeats.
  3. High frequency wiring. The bait sinks to the bottom with slight fluctuations. This is followed by a short pause and the rise of the oscillating mormyshka by 15-20 cm. After that, the bait descends and stops 4-5 cm above the ground. The cycles are repeated, but each time the bait rises 10-15 cm above the previous level.
    This way of playing helps to attract fish that are at a considerable distance from the hole. The bite occurs during the period of stops and pauses.

You should have a large supply of various mormyshkas, since the perch is a rather capricious selection of catchy bait occurs directly in the process of fishing.
To quickly change the bait in the cold, it is better not to tie it to a fishing line, but to hook it to a carabiner.
When catching a perch, other fish can also bite on a mormyshka, no matter if it is predatory or not.
The use of bait significantly increases the chances of a bite and will be very useful for beginner anglers.
Mormyshkas can be made more attractive with the help of multi-colored beads and cambrics, dressed on a hook.
It is better to do hooking with a brush - when biting a large perch, this will protect the fishing line from breaking.
After pulling the prey to the hole, you should discard the fishing rod and, intercepting the line with your hands, pull the predator onto the ice.

Catching perch in the winter on a mormyshka is an exciting and active activity. On such fishing, you will obviously not have to be bored and cold. And to increase the catch will help the study of the behavior of fish and the wiring technique, which is the basis of jig fishing.
