Lure fishing for pike in autumn

Autumn pike biting in most regions of our country begins in mid-August and continues until late autumn. Its beginning coincides with the cooling and lowering of the water temperature in reservoirs. It should be noted that the activity of pike biting is not always associated with good autumn sunny weather. It often happens when the weather is cloudy, and in addition there is light rain, but you can enjoy great fishing and an excellent catch.

The ideal condition for excellent lure fishing for pike is the absence of other anglers nearby, because it is a very shy fish. Professional fishermen are very interested in autumn pike fishing on a lure, as a predator, having gained weight over the summer, becomes very stubborn and fights vigorously.

Best fishing time

Early morning is the perfect time to catch pike with a lure. The white fish of our reservoirs are beginning to come out of hibernation, and, accordingly, predators are also hunting for them. At the same time, visibility is not so good as to distinguish a lure from a fry. Later, when the sun rises higher, the activity of pecking falls on artificial lures. By noon, in sunny weather, the activity of bites becomes equal to zero. On a clear day, at about 17-18 hours, the evening bite begins, and the more it gets dark, the better it bites. Pike is a diurnal predator, its last active bites will be before sunset.

Choosing a spinner

The most common bait for catching pike in the fall is a metal bait. At this point there is a very large variety of spinners. Sometimes experienced fishermen cannot give an exact answer on which lure to choose. A lot of anglers intuitively choose spinners, because pike is an unpredictable fish. Some believe that a bright lure will quickly attract the attention of a pike. But even here there are exceptions. When fishing pike at half water, it is better to take a dark-colored lure. And for deep casts, it is better to have brighter baubles.
Spinners for catching pike are divided into oscillating and rotating types.

Spoon

In general terms, it is a metal plate that imitates the body of a small fish. It has a convex shape on one side and a concave shape on the other, which forces it to oscillate to the sides, imitating the natural movement of a fish. For catching pike, it is better to use a medium or large lure, since the predator leaves a small model without attention.
When fishing at great depths, a heavy and narrow lure has proven itself well. But light and wide is perfect for shallow water. This lure is perfect for fishing in clear waters. It must be taken into account that the wiring must be done very slowly so that the baubles swing smoothly from side to side. Otherwise, the oscillating lure will begin to rotate, thereby scaring off the predator.

Spinner

The composition of this spinner includes: a plate with an attached hook or tee at the tip and a rotating petal. With a medium size, this lure is very effective for catching pike. The petal with its rotations creates vibration in the water, which attracts the attention of the predator.

The ideal size of a spinner, or as it is called "turntables" for pike, -
#3–6. The main point in the "turntable" is the shape of the petal, which affects the frequency and power of rotation, the speed and resistance of the wiring.
The petal of the "Long" model has a shape identical to a willow leaf. Rotating, the deflection angle of the petal reaches 30 degrees, which provides easy movement of the bait. Lure of this type has proven itself well at great depths, as well as when posting against the current.

A lure equipped with a Comet petal is often called a universal lure. Due to its rounded shape, the petal, when rotated, the deflection angle, which reaches 45 degrees, forms a medium power resistance. This type of spinner for pike has proven itself well both in strong currents and in still water.

The petal of the Aglia model has an almost rounded shape. The deflection angle during posting reaches 60–70 degrees and creates maximum resistance, that is, it makes the posting slow, excellent for pike fishing in still water. The Aglia lure is perfect for catching both passive and active pike.

"Turntables" show excellent results in reservoirs with muddy water. It must be borne in mind that if there is a deep body of water, it is better to use a front-loaded lure. And if you have to fish in shallow water, then it is better to use a back-loaded “turntable”.
When buying a spinner, you need to choose only high-quality made models, as this will give you a guarantee that this spinner will rotate in any body of water with any wiring. And this, in turn, will have a positive effect on the result of the pike catch.

Hook plumage

Tee plumage is a very important element of the bait, which plays several functions:

  • an edge made of feathers or hair, dyed in bright colors, attracts a predator;
  • it stabilizes the spinner, keeping it in a horizontal position;
  • visually increases the size of the bait;

When choosing between an oscillating or spinning lure, with or without an edge, you need to remember one thing, that even in the same reservoir, the taste of pike changes at different times. Therefore, it will be useful to have several spinners of different types and colors and decide by trial and error on the spot.

How to increase the catch of fish?

Today there are many ways to increase the catch. One of the interesting options is the bite activator. It attracts fish from long distances and stimulates their appetite with the help of pheromones, which are part of and affect the behavior of individuals. Pheromones are natural biologically active substances that are secreted by living organisms, including fish.
