What time of year is the best to visit Batumi

are subtropics. The best time for rest is the middle of spring - the beginning of summer and the beginning of autumn - the middle of September - the end of October. Since November, the weather can deteriorate, it rains, it is cool in the evening. At the height of summer, the city is literally teeming with tourists, prices reach a rather unpleasant maximum.

Is it safe to travel to Georgia alone

To date, I do not know a safer country than Georgia, out of more than 50 countries that I have visited, Georgia is one of the safest countries in the world. Pah-pah so as not to jinx it. AT Georgia in general, and in Batium in particular, it is quite easy to go alone, even young and beautiful. If you do not specifically look for adventure, nothing is guaranteed to happen to you.

Transport links between Batumi and Tbilisi

If time permits, in addition to the surroundings, you can visit Tbilisi and everything that you have time in the vicinity. Georgia country is small, get from to Tbilisi can be done in several ways and for little money.

The railroad is the most comfortable way

"... there are several Tbilisi-Batumi trains - the morning express, the evening express and the night train. Tickets can be bought on the Georgian Railways website, the ticket price is $ 10-15 depending on the type of train. The site is available in three languages, everything is intuitive - understand, I'm sure.

For reference: earlier the railway station was only in the suburb of Batumi - Makhinjauri, now it is located directly in Batumi, business center Central

If you are interested in a beach holiday, you can live in the neighboring resort village of Kobuleti, and come to Batumi for a walk, a cultural rest. You can read about beach hotels and guest houses in Kobuleti in the article Most Popular Beach Budget Hotels in Kobuleti - she came out on our new resource dedicated to housing.

Pfirst steps in Batumi

You will save time and money if you start by visiting the Batumi information center. They will help on almost all issues - girls can even be married off, if there is a desire, of course. As a minimum, you can take a card, despite the fact that there is a smartphone and new technologies, paper cards will not be superfluous. There is an information center at the airport and in the center of Batumi. Maps and tips are free!

Taxi from the airport - around the clock, you can and should bargain, there are many taxi drivers. The fare is 12-20 GEL.

The currency of Georgia is Lari. 1 dollar equals 2.46 lari, 1 euro - 2.70 lari

"... and no dollars or euros, only the local currency circulates in Georgia; exchangers are everywhere, you can change both in the city and at the airport - the rate is not very different.

Ttransport locations in Batumi

The airport

Train Station- trains to Tbilisi and suburbs

City bus station and Tbilisi square, from here you can go by minibuses in all directions Georgia and some parts of Turkey. I will not dwell on minibuses, not the best mode of transport in Georgia, try to look for other transfer options - a taxi, a rented car, an organized tour.

The main city attractions in Batumi

The most impressive new buildings are located near the Batumi Seaside Boulevard, the boulevard itself is the main attraction of Batumi. Parallel to him Rustaveli street.

alphabet tower, the building of the Institute of Technology, various metal installations, singing fountains, the Radisson Hotel, and finally, the building in the form of an inverted bottle - the House of Justice on the outskirts.

... there is no point in listing everything. ... walk and admire ... in the evening all this is enhanced by the backlight, which I remember, despite the evening gatherings in Batumi ....

jetty, next to him is the famous statue love, it looks cool in the evening illumination.

seaside park we lived very close to it. Singing Fountains and unusual batumi registry office in the form of a pig.

If you move deeper old town, can see temples of all denominations buildings of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, many architectural styles. I will not enumerate - this is a good reason to walk, see and be impressed. Be sure to go through Abashidze street- the heart of old Batumi. However, there are several similar streets.

Beautiful european square, statue of Medea, clock and fountain. Lots of unusual façades. Worth finding building of the governor of Batumi– Freshly restored and very beautiful.

Family and children's entertainment - dolphinarium, aquarium, Ferris wheel, cable car.

For both adults and children, I recommend renting a bike, this can be done throughout the center of Batumi. The city has simply luxurious red bike paths that run along the sea and along the most beautiful streets. Two or three hours is just right.

In the evening - the most the main attraction of Batumi - sunset, it sits across the sea and a worthy spectacle to spend an hour and a half on this movie.

What to see around Batumi

Waterfall Makhuntseti

About an hour on the way on the Batumi-Keda minibus, and here it is the Adjarian nature, which is not very visible from the city beaches - a 20-meter waterfall that fills the Adzharistskali River with the purest mountain water. I still recommend getting there by car or renting a taxi, possibly with a local guide, a minibus - in an extreme and very budgetary case.

Five minutes from the waterfall there is a unique arched Makhuntseti stone bridge, do not forget about it - it is beautiful and very organically inscribed in the natural landscape.

On the way to the waterfall is the famous wine house Adjaristskhali, this place is mainly taken by tourists who have bought excursion to the waterfall in city agencies.

Racha

A mountainous area that you can go to if you have enough time. The journey from Batumi with the return will take two days, with an overnight stay. To travel, you need a jeep, which can be rented from one of the agencies, or you can buy a ready-made tour. Rachu locals call Georgian Switzerland - in addition to nature, there is an ancient monastery, caves. There is a place very close to the town of Oni.

AT Rachu you can drop in if you arrived in Kutaisi, spend the whole day there with an overnight stay and go to .

Accommodation options in the village of Oni (Racha)

The village has a tourist infrastructure, you can choose accommodation on the Hotels Combined website (roomguru) - hotels and guest houses in the village of Oni .

Mtirala National Park

Chakvistavi village, Chakvi municipality, western part of the Adjara-Imereti ridge. A place where you can spend the whole day - mountain rivers, forest, bike ride, waterfall. There is little information about the park - just choose in your GPS or on a paper map, get in your car and go. You can also buy a tour or arrange with the locals, they will take you and show you. It is not worth spending the night, one day is enough.

How to get there: from Batumi you can get to the village of Chakvi by minibus (from Tbilisi Square), then by taxi for about an hour. Better on your own in a rented car or with a tour from Batumi.

The tourist office is located in the village of Chakvi on Chavchavadze street, 13

Gonio-Apsaros fortress

... but let me not advise everyone to waste time on it. Only for those who are very interested in history ... the remains of the foundation and the fortress wall in places overgrown with grass. In my opinion, it is better to go to another bar in Batumi and chat with the locals - you will learn more.

Botanical Garden

It is located on the outskirts, can be reached by taxi - $ 10 or by minibus number 13 from Tbilisi Square. You can also stop by the Botsad on the way from.

Sea in Batumi

The best beaches of Batumi and surroundings

- a fairly large city, besides it is a port. I must admit that the sea here is not the cleanest in the area, although it is much cleaner than, for example, in Odessa. If locals swim in the city, then only until lunch, then the current changes the water from clean to not always clean.

AT Butumi the cleanest sea - in the area Ferris wheels. Large-pebble beaches with children will not be very convenient there. Batumi, after all, is a place about a city vacation, not a beach one. The best beaches are in the vicinity, some are very close, 10 km. from Batumi.

LBest beaches near Batumi

Gonio and Kvariati

…only 10 km. from Batumi towards Turkey, this place is loved by locals and those who prefer a quiet family vacation ... there are no entertainments other than the sea and the sound of the surf ... food is also better to take with you, but everything else is the highest rating!

Accommodation in Gonio Kvariati

About accommodation options in Kobuleti you can read in the article on my new resource completely dedicated to housing - Most Popular Beach Budget Hotels in Kobuleti

Food. Where to buy groceries in Batumi

Near Tbilisi Square there are market streets where you can buy everything - vegetables, fruits, pita bread, cheese, etc. Prices for local products are lower than in Kyiv. There is also a Goodwill supermarket near Tbilisi Square - everything is there, the prices are the same as in Kyiv, it works around the clock. It is better to buy only wine in the supermarket, I recommend Kindzmarauli rosé Saperavi if you like sweet wines.

Where to eat in Batumi. Cafes and restaurants

Bar "Eredeli", near Europe Square

old house, this is the #1 cafe number one for us; here we tried almost everything that can be cooked in Adjara, drank a few liters of wine and paid a symbolic $30 for three. A memorable place, although given the amount of wine, memory just should not have been. Borjomi will help you in the morning!
Address: Gorgiladze Street 29

Cafe Laguna, st. Gorgiladze Street, 18

Cafe Literary, K.Gamsakhurdia st., 18– delicious khachapuri and desserts

Cafe Izba, near Tbilisi Square on Chavchavadze Street - very inexpensive and very tasty, very tasty, be sure to order a shish kebab.

Budget Traveler Meal Format: You should not completely abandon the cafe, after all, Georgian cuisine is one of the reasons why you need to go to Georgia. Cooking yourself, products from the market and alternating with a trip to a cafe, only bottled wine, homemade is not always good, try it.
. Prices have long dropped to European levels, the roads are excellent, the distances allow you not to get tired while driving. There are many car rental resources. I landed on a site that specializes in local local car rentals and does a good job - myrentacar.com. I recommend it - there is only 15% prepayment and there are no insane deposits.

In most cases, an ordinary passenger car is enough, where an SUV is needed, you can always use the services of local residents - it's inexpensive, from 10 to 50 dollars, depending on time and distance.

Latest news on my page

I continue to tell you about the glorious city of Batumi.

It is a stunning city with a rich history and beautiful architecture. That is why tourists from all over the world flock here to walk along the original streets and see with your own eyes city sights , and at the same time swim in the sea breathe in the fresh sea breeze and taste the best dishes of Georgian cuisine .

After reading rave reviews and seeing enough photos of Batumi, of course, we included a visit to Batumi in our travel plan for Georgia. To see with your own eyes what success this Georgian resort has achieved in recent years.

In a previous article, I already told you how best to get to Batumi and where to stay:. This article will help you plan your trip to this resort. Today, my task is to tell you about the most interesting tourist places in Batumi, and help you make an approximate route for your acquaintance with this amazing city.

What you can see in Batumi on your own

Batumi impressed us from the very first minutes of our arrival. Driving into it from the Transajar highway (), we examined with interest the bizarrely shaped skyscrapers. And we firmly decided the next day right in the morning to go for a walk around this colorful city.

But the next morning we were in for a surprise in the form of an incessant downpour. And this is after ten whole days of hellish heat, during which we wandered the streets of Tbilisi (), tasted wines in the Alazani Valley (), examined the temples of Mtskheta and Uplistsikhe caves (), drank mineral water in Borjomi (). And we did all this under the golden rays of the warm September sun.

And then, when we finally got to the SEA and could afford to just lie down on the beach for a couple of days, it started to RAIN! Yes, such that the outlines of the surrounding mountains were not even visible. And we spent almost the whole day looking at Batumi only through the window of our room. There was a plus in this: we were so tired from driving along the Transajarian highway that we were not averse to a good night's sleep. Although we would have done it with no less pleasure on the beach under an umbrella. But alas...

The downpour subsided only towards evening. It was time to get out and take a little walk around Batumi. Moreover, the probability of continued rain was very high - even in the photo you can see low thunderclouds over the city ...

Embankment of Batumi

I am sure that it is worth starting acquaintance with any seaside city from the embankment. If you do this in Batumi, you will definitely not lose. It is she who will show how this beautiful city lives and breathes.

We went to the embankment in the area Hilton Hotel and Batumi University :

This place was the beginning of our walk around Batumi. There is no secret meaning here - it’s just here, in the hotel parking lot, that we managed to park our car perfectly (and the car remains under supervision, and it’s already a stone’s throw from the center).

While we are walking towards the sea, we have time to see that in both directions the embankment and the promenade along it stretch very far - there is no end in sight!

For the first time in my life, I thought that gyroscooters and unicycles, on which everyone cuts through here in Polyana, are not such a useless invention.

After the rain, there were few people on the promenade and the embankment. And by the way - dirt and puddles are also not visible, have you noticed? So I liked Batumi from the first minutes of the walk.

The embankment itself now, at the end of the season, looked a little deserted, but also quite well-groomed. If you live nearby, you can go for a morning run, an afternoon bike ride or an evening walk here. In summer, the embankment is always crowded: tourists walk, lovers walk, large companies, families or alone walk.

Tourists usually take photos with such art objects:

A beautiful green park adjacent to the embankment will save you from sunstroke on a hot summer day.

And we had a rainy autumn day. A brisk breeze was blowing from the sea, and we did not notice how we walked with a brisk step to that part of the embankment where modern skyscrapers and other unusual buildings rose.

alphabet tower

We saw this building from afar. The “good goal” voiced during the construction of this structure - to perpetuate the Georgian alphabet - is being questioned by many locals. More inclined to the version of money laundering (construction cost more than 30 million dollars). You can take the elevator upstairs (this is a paid pleasure, albeit inexpensive) and eat in a restaurant under the dome (and this is both a paid and expensive pleasure!)

Lighthouse in Batumi

A lighthouse is visible nearby. It was erected back in 1863, during the period of Ottoman rule. Then the lighthouse tower was wooden. The reconstruction was carried out in 1882 by craftsmen from Paris.

During the day, the lighthouse is unremarkable. However, with the advent of darkness, the Batumi lighthouse begins to illuminate the sea with a mysterious ruby light. Somewhere here, not far from the lighthouse, we came across this couple:

A Ferris wheel was built right there: for 3 lari (this is how much a Ferris wheel costs) you will rise to a height of 55 meters above the city. And behind it begins the port of Batumi.

But on the way to the port, we notice another attraction of Batumi ...

Chacha Tower

The Chacha Tower or Chacha Fountain is so named because a couple of times a week for exactly 15 minutes a fountain is turned on in the tower, in which not just water circulates, but real vodka.

They say that this event causes a special stir in the city - only not among tourists, as planned, but among the local population. Of course, tourists mostly hunt for Georgian wine!

Port of Batumi

The port of Batumi, of course, is really different from the seaport in Sochi. In Sochi, the port serves mainly passenger traffic, and its construction was associated with the development of Sochi as a resort. And the main factor in the development of the Batumi port from the very beginning was the delivery of goods.

The port was built and developed to transport oil from Baku. For this, the Baku-Tbilisi railway line was laid.

And in 1900, the construction of the Baku-Batumi oil pipeline was completed. And then, thanks to the port of Batumi, Russia in the shortest possible time first caught up, and then overtook the United States of America in oil production and export. By the beginning of the 20th century The port of Batumi has become one of the leading ports of the Black Sea. And now the port of Batumi is the heart of the city.

We approach the building of the Batumi Sea Terminal:

Well, doesn't it remind you of anything? In my opinion, this is a reduced and very simplified copy of the building. Seaport in Sochi. By the way, next to the pier was another greeting from Sochi - the same "Comet" that runs between Sochi and Batumi.

Near the port as always lively. Fishermen are fishing, tourists are walking, taxi drivers are waiting for customers. Across the road from the port begins the same Batumi, which is called Old Batumi.

Here, next to the port, is the lower station of the cable car. Yes, Batumi also has its own cable car, as well as in Tbilisi (), and in Borjomi ().

In general, in the cities of Georgia, as I noticed, the funicular is such a popular attraction for tourists) Like singing fountains in Russian cities ;-)

Fare: 15 GEL round-trip, for children - 5 GEL, open seven days a week from 09:00 to 21:00. During the trip (about 10 minutes), you can take a closer look at the different quarters of Batumi, which are usually beyond the sight of tourists.

At the top point there is an observation deck, from which you can see the port, the areas of the new and old Batumi, the mountains of Adjara ...

Although I love cable car rides, this time we had to give it up - the cable car cabins left just in the direction from where another thunderstorm front was coming from the mountain. And we decided to limit ourselves to a walk around Old Batumi.

Batumi City Center Attractions

In general, we previously googled where and what is in Batumi. But already during the walk they did not check the map - they walked at random. Because all the roads in Batumi will still lead you to its central part. And here you will not pass by the most interesting places.

So, having crossed to the other side of the road from the port, we intuitively turned onto one of the busiest streets of old Batumi:

Here, on every meter of the square, active trade has unfolded, and it would be difficult to drive by car. But walking in this part of Batumi is a pleasure - you never know what you will see around the corner:

It’s even hard to say what styles are mixed in this part of Batumi: neoclassical buildings quietly coexist with pre-war slums and bright graffiti…

You can't call these quarters lubok, varnished - the atmosphere of the city is felt here. But everywhere is very clean, everything is sharpened for tourist needs. Probably, such streets are needed in every city. So that tourists have somewhere to go for a walk.

We got to the church of St. Nicholas:

The church building is one of the oldest buildings in the city. The initiator of its construction was the Greek population of Batumi, led by Jordan Metaksa. The foundation of the church was laid in 1865. Since Batumi at that time was under the protectorate of Turkey, the Greeks turned to the Turkish Sultan with a request for permission to build a Christian church. The Sultan gave his consent on one condition: there would be no bells in the church - the main attribute of an Orthodox cathedral. It was installed only in 1878 and to this day takes its place under the dome of the cathedral.

Directly obliquely from the church is another bell tower - already modern:

Wow, this is a copy of the bell tower of San Marco in Venice! And here is Piazza - a small beautiful square, also a reduced analogue of the Venetian one:

Its construction was completed in 2010. But over the years it has already become a hallmark of Batumi. Although it resembles a corner of Italian Venice, it fits perfectly into the quarters of the main Georgian resort. Piazza is an ideal platform for lovers of photo shoots, artists, and photographers. This place is especially popular with newlyweds - excellent wedding photos on the square are guaranteed:

A small concert stage has also been built on the square, where romantic live music plays in the evenings, creating the perfect setting for a pleasant evening. Other attractions include a musical clock, in which music plays every three hours and funny figures ride out.

Hotel Piazza Boutique Hotel located right in this very bell tower. And here, at his reception, you can get a map of the city - absolutely free.

We also succumbed to the charm of the square and decided to sit down and have lunch here:

A good lunch gave us strength, and we are slowly moving further along the streets of old Batumi. We move again intuitively, looking at the amazing architecture of Batumi.

Quite by accident we saw the building of the circus:

The circus in Batumi opened in 1903. Currently, the circus does not have its own troupe (like the Sochi circus, I thought). On its arena they hold their show programs and performances, touring circus and acrobatic troupes from different countries.

Literally in five minutes we are already approaching Europe Square . You are also unlikely to be able to pass by this square in Batumi: the bizarre architecture of the buildings surrounding the square will invariably attract your attention:

In the center of the square there is a statue of Medea, which is considered to be a symbol of Georgia's well-being and prosperity - this is hinted at by the golden fleece in her hand:

But the area is most interesting not for the statue, but for the buildings that surround it. Here, depending on the angle of observation, you can ingeniously "deceive" with the place of stay. If you look to the left - here is the building of the astronomical clock in Prague (by the way, there are clocks on the facade, noticed?)

You look straight ahead and you will see the building of the Roosevelt Hotel from Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles ():

And if you look in the right corner of the square - here is the Vienna City Hall:

We hang out on this square for a long time ... I don’t remember in which direction we walked later, but somewhere else in 20 minutes we come to such a colonnade:

And this is nothing but the entrance to 6 May Park . If you look at the photo carefully, you will notice that the entrance to the park is decorated with a monument to the outstanding pilot Fadiko Gogitidze, who died in World War II.

The park itself covers an area of 157.6 thousand square meters. m. in the heart of the city. It was founded as a garden in 1881 by German and French gardeners. Thanks to the large number of trees, shrubs and flowers, it was already in those years a favorite place for walking.

The park is still beautiful today. But he did not manage to avoid the fate of all city parks: children's entertainment - such as a zoo, a dolphinarium and attractions - became an integral part of it.

But now, in the evening (or just after the rain), the attractions did not work and the children were not visible either. And therefore, there was perfect silence in the park, which allowed you to enjoy the beauty of Lake Nurigel:

And for those who want a more active holiday, you can rent a boat or catamaran and enjoy a boat trip on the lake.

Along the lake in a circle there is an embankment with benches for rest. This is an ideal place where you can get away from the hustle and bustle: meditate or read your favorite book. By the way, there is a house with books in the park: here you can choose any book for the evening or leave your own in it.

We also meditated a little: we sat on a bench, admiring the beauty of the park and the lake, until dusk.

This ended our walk. We reached the car parked at the Hilton from the park in 5 minutes. And while we were driving to the hotel, we exchanged impressions of the city.

In fact, during this day we managed to see the main interesting places of old Batumi. It felt like visiting different cities! Well, isn't this Georgian Batumi a miracle? How can you not fall in love with this city?

Excursions to the sights closest to Batumi

But in its surroundings so many more interesting places! But getting to them on your own will not be so easy if you are not by car. And not all tourists are impressed by public transport.

Rent a car - a good solution for those who like independent outings. Online Myrentacar it is convenient to choose and book a suitable car, because you can calculate the cost of its rent in advance and clarify all other points.

Not sure if you want to drive on unfamiliar roads? In this case, I recommend go for a day in the outskirts of Batumi with an excursion :

  • Botanical garden, Byzantine fortress and tea plantations
  • The beauties of mountainous Adjara: the oldest fortress of Georgia, a magnificent waterfall and an ancient arched bridge
  • Machakhela Gorge on the border with Turkey

In general, I will not be dishonest if I say that the city of Batumi won back a piece of my soul from Sochi. And I know for sure that in a couple of years it will be even cooler here! Therefore, seize the moment, friends - go to Batumi, while it is still not so expensive to rest there ...

See you on the blog!

Note! In individual excursions from Batumi, a unique opportunity to save money has appeared. It's called "joint booking". The essence is sightseeing by a small group of people (usually up to 6 people). It's nice that it's not you who are looking for and recruiting a company for an excursion, but the georgia4travel.ru service. More information can be found on their website.

small conclusion

When you come to Georgia not for the first time, having already explored it with the help of guides, or have a too limited budget, travel with the help of drivers by car. This is not only interesting (you can talk to locals to feel the flavor of the country), but it also turns out cheaper.

Where is it profitable to go on your own from Batumi?

A warning: many minibuses in Batumi have stickers with the inscriptions Botanical Garden. This is an advertisement and in fact the minibus does not go there. Be sure to check the route with the driver or passengers.

Church of the Holy Trinity on Mount Sameba

3 A good option would be to go see the Church of the Holy Trinity on Mount Sameba. The church was built in the 19th century and is located on a hill (250 meters above sea level), which offers stunning views not only of the surrounding mountains, but also of itself:

You can get there on the yellow Bogdanchiks, which run every hour and a half from a stop near the Batumi Plaza shopping center. It's across the street from the start. Worth a trip around 2 lari GEORGIAN LAR RATE:
2 lari = 0.66 euros;
2 lari = 0.76 dollars;
2 lari = 50.44 rubles;
2 lari = 21.28 hryvnia;
2 lari = 1.7 Belarusian rubles.
.

The guidebook for Batumi indicates the schedule of minibuses: 8:00, 10:00, 13:00, 16:00, but we did not check it. Travel time is about half an hour. Several more minibuses go that way, but they don’t bring you to the church itself - you have to walk about 15-20 minutes.

If the minibus does not suit you, order a car with a driver. Price starts from 19 lari GEORGIAN LAR RATE:
19 lari = 6.29 euros;
19 lari = 7.22 dollars;
19 lari = 479.18 rubles;
19 lari = 202.16 hryvnia;
19 lari = 16.15 Belarusian rubles.
Rates and prices may not be accurate. for the round trip.

Note: the church is open until 18:00, and the last minibus leaves back at 18:10.

Machakhela National Park - the most interesting part of Adjara

4 If you want to see truly unique and not visited by tourists places in the mountainous part of Adjara - go to the Machakhela region. You won’t be able to travel around all the key points (and there are really quite a lot of them) by public transport, so you can choose group or individual options.

The highlight of the tour (we went on an individual one) is the Georgian feast with local dishes, many of which are hard to find even in expensive Batumi restaurants. And then you can arrange an exciting photo shoot in local outfits against the backdrop of the lush greenery of the surrounding nature.

One of the most beautiful waterfalls we saw in Georgia is the Mirveti waterfall. The power of water is so powerful that even after standing for several minutes at the distance from which the photo was taken, the camera is covered with water droplets.

The cost of visiting the canyons of Marvili: 15 lari GEORGIAN LAR RATE:
15 lari = 4.97 euros;
15 lari = 5.7 dollars;
15 lari = 378.3 rubles;
15 lari = 159.6 hryvnia;
15 lari = 12.75 Belarusian rubles.
Rates and prices may not be accurate. walk down the bottom and 13 lari GEORGIAN LAR RATE:
13 lari = 4.3 euros;
13 lari = 4.94 dollars;
13 lari = 327.86 rubles;
13 lari = 138.32 hryvnia;
13 lari = 11.05 Belarusian rubles.
Rates and prices may not be accurate. boating on the top. Small children with a height of less than a meter will not be allowed to ride the boat. Martvili does not work on Mondays.

Prometheus cave, Sataplia and Kutaisi reserve

8 If you do not plan to live in Kutaisi, you can go there as a one-day excursion. Such a pleasure will cost 175 euros. Excursion for the whole day, rich and interesting. For this money, they will show you (on the way) and the monasteries of Gelati and Motsameta. For 160 euros, the tour will pass along the Martvili canyon, Prometheus cave and sulfur springs. We visited both, the impressions are very good.

Just do not go on Monday - the cave will be closed, and street "guides" and taxi drivers often "forget" about this.

If you plan to rent a car or take a car with a driver, add to the list also. It is less extensive than Prometheus, but has undeniable advantages: frozen dinosaur footprints on the territory; a beautiful primeval forest, where it is easy to breathe and it is pleasant to walk along the paths; as well as a magnificent glass platform over the abyss (to tickle your nerves). Sataplia does not work on Tuesdays. Based on this, in order to get into both caves, you should choose any days for trips except Monday and Tuesday.

note

You need to look for good guides in Georgia and book their excursions in advance. You can also hire the first taxi driver you see, but it will cost much more. It is unlikely that he will be able to find out anything about the visited sights from him.

We have a section on our website where we share the contacts of those with whom we traveled ourselves. But since we don’t have many acquaintances in Georgia, we recommend that you take a closer look at or on the Georgia4travel.ru website. They are a little more expensive, but the quality is very good.

Independent travel on a rented car: can you save money?

And traveling on your own is usually cheaper (based on 2 travelers) than hiring local guides and much cheaper than organized tours.

There is a second plus - you will have complete freedom and the opportunity to plan a difficult route for several days, stay in the city you like, or vice versa, quickly leave the place that seemed uninteresting.

Well, and an important point for lovers: the opportunity to be together somewhere high in the mountains gives an indescribable feeling and will reward you with great memories.

Traveling in Georgia by minibuses: is it worth it?

Purely theoretically, you can travel around Georgia by minibuses. Many people do just that. But at the same time, each route must be calculated. After all, there is always a risk of being late for a minibus, the schedule of which is not very convenient.

The situation is similar with almost all sightseeing trips over long distances. It is often impossible to go round-trip in one day due to the not very convenient bus schedule, and the price of the trip will turn out to be not much lower than hiring a car with a driver.

Public transport is very convenient travel short distances. For example, from Batumi you can visit the Church of the Holy Trinity on Mount Sameba, go swimming on or Ureki. Such trips will cost much less than you pay for a taxi.

The second option for using public transport is a trip for several days. For example, from Batumi we advise you to go to, settle there and see. It will turn out cheaper and more convenient than traveling from Batumi - save on housing, transport, and food.

Why can't you save money by traveling by minibuses?

Traveling for the whole day on a minibus in round-trip mode will cost 30 percent cheaper than ordering a car with a driver. But there is another problem - they rarely go to minibuses (if they go at all), and situations when there should have been a minibus, but did not come, happen almost every day.

As a result, sooner or later you will find yourself in a situation where there is no minibus and you have to pay a lot for a taxi or stay at a local hotel. All the savings from several trips are spent on this one force majeure and it becomes a shame for the missed sights, because with local guides you would see many times more.

The second reason is time. With (which travels much faster than the minibus), we always returned home closer to 12 at night. If you travel by minibuses, there is a minimum of time for sightseeing, and many interesting places cannot be seen at all.

Old city

The old city, also known as the historical Batumi, is the embodiment of the history of Georgia. Here, every building and path reminds of ancient times, when Aristotle, Pliny and other ancient heroes remembered Batumi.

Advice! If you are going to stay in Batumi, it is best to rent accommodation in the Old Town.

The old city can be divided in half by Baratashvili Street. Tourists who first came to Batumi will be interested in walking from this street to the seaport. In fact, the port itself was moved to another place long ago, so that now it is a quiet and secluded waterfront. From there, a beautiful view of the mountains opens up, which looks very impressive in the winter season.

There are many churches in the old town, during the walk you can see:

  • Greek church;
  • Cathedral Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary;
  • Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas;
  • Jewish synagogue;
  • Muslim mosque Orta Jame;
  • Armenian temple Surb Pkrch.

The Marine Station, which is one of the options for the end points of the walking route, is also quite an interesting location. On its territory there is a monument in the form of the Soviet boat "Meteor". Now there are few such copies left.

Batumi port

Large liners have not been parked in the old seaport for a long time, as the cargo-passenger port was moved to another place.

The port offers a beautiful view of the mountains. Moreover, it is equally impressive both in summer and in winter. So if you are in Batumi, be sure to take a mug of a delicious drink and take a walk along the old seaport.

Those who want to plunge into a romantic atmosphere should definitely visit the port at sunset.

Rustaveli Avenue

Shota Rustaveli Avenue is one of the central streets of the city. There are no famous architectural monuments and other sights at this location, but every tourist should take a walk along this street.
