A very large temple complex, on the territory of which there are two museums - Buddhism and local tin mines, the most unique of all Buddha statues - Luang Poh Phra Thong, which is a huge golden bust, a functioning monastery, a crematorium and a cafe. Signs are placed throughout the territory, and in the most unexpected places you can stumble upon old cannons and funny figurines.

What else needs to be seen?

In addition to excursions in Phuket, there are places near the island that are a must-see. One of these places is Similan, that is, the Similan Islands.

These are 10 small truly paradise islands that make up the National Park. Access is not allowed on all of them. Here are the best snorkeling and diving in the world, the clearest water and the opportunity to spend the night in a tent under palm trees or in a boat under the moon.

Fred von Lohmann/flickr.com

The islands are open from October to May, a day trip costs from 1900 baht. For each additional day of stay you need to pay extra 500 baht. Before traveling with an excursion, it is necessary to find out the most detailed route, because there is an opportunity to dine and wash only on two of the islands, which some unscrupulous organizers of “discounted” tours are delicately silent about.

You can get to this fabulous place on your own from any pier in Phuket by renting a boat. The cost can be different, depending on how successfully the traveler knows how to bargain.

Where is the best place to stay?

Phuket is a small island, and since people come to Thailand for its beaches, sun and entertainment, Patong is the best place to choose a hotel. The site will always help you book a room in advance.

Patong is known not only throughout Thailand, but throughout the world, both for its beaches and nightlife. It is centered on Bangla Road and Paradise Complex.

David Johnson/flickr.com

In Patong, the beach line is divided into two main large beaches with developed infrastructure - Patong and Freedom. The first one is very crowded, it is always very noisy here, there are many children. Here you can get a massage on a bamboo mat and, in principle, get anything from food to alcoholic cocktails without getting up from the sunbed. The second one is quieter, secluded and comfortable, without intrusive services, probably due to the distance from large hotels.

From Patong, you can easily get to anywhere on the island by bus, rental car or tuk-tuk. There are also a lot of tour operators here, most excursions are organized directly next to the beaches, but there are also organized trips around the island from hotels that need to be booked in advance.

No matter where the traveler stops on the island, it will not be difficult to see the sights of Phuket on your own.

As a rule, I always use Google Map to find something on the map. But sometimes you have to resort to ordinary maps, some of which help you quickly find out where this or that beach and area is located, because this simply isn’t on Google. In addition, the street names do not match the Thai ones. At first I was so tormented before I realized it.

Most often, maps are needed even before the trip, but during it, it becomes possible to use paper ones, which are not difficult to get on the spot - either at the airport, or in a shopping center, or at a scooter rental point. Usually they are quite detailed and they show sights, shops, markets and train stations. Alternatively, use maps in GPS, for example, for Igo 8, we did this in Bangkok, it is very easy to get lost there at first.

About Phuket beaches in general

Briefly talk about the beaches of Phuket. The entire west coast is suitable for swimming, but the east coast is not. The eastern areas of Chalong Bay are good for tasting seafood dishes, as well as for inexpensive and long-term accommodation. However, the coast there is dirty, occupied by fishing boats and no one swims there.

The most popular beach in Phuket is (Patong), many compare it with Pattaya, as it is the most party place on the island: nightlife, clubs, bars, shopping centers, a lot of people. Therefore, if you need peace and quiet, then you definitely shouldn’t go there, I don’t recommend it. For a family and relaxing holiday, either on a rustic (Bang Tao) or on. And if you need something something in between, then on or. As an option, you can choose, but he is not far from Patong, there are also a lot of people there, although there is less movement.

My favorite, which is located in the south of Phuket, there are only a couple of hotels on the coast, the place is quiet and beautiful, near the lake. And if you have a bike, then from the same Rawai Beach, it takes no more than 15 minutes to get there. Perfect place!

Another, even more sparsely populated beach. It is located near the airport and is not particularly popular among tourists, because the infrastructure is not enough, and you can swim only in the central part, where it is deep.

To begin with, I present to your attention a Google map, on which I marked all the beaches on the island. Including private beaches of hotels, small and little-known beaches. Popular ones are also there. By clicking on a point, you can follow the link and read a detailed description of each beach and see photos.

And finally, a map of the main and only city on the island - Phuket-town. If you come to Phuket by bus, you will most likely end up in the city. And also if you go to shopping centers or somewhere else.
