Train from Riga to Jurmala

Tickets can be bought at the box office, it is enough to name the final station. Here the only snag may arise, because. there is no Jurmala station. Jurmala stretches along the coast and therefore there are several stations along its entire length. Here are the main stops:

  • Lielupe– the first stop in Jurmala, as soon as you pass over the big bridge.
  • Dzintari– next to the Dzintari concert hall, where events such as KVN and New wave.
  • Majori- the very center of Jurmala, from here you can walk along the central Jomas street and see almost all the sights of Jurmala. Here, mostly tourists and walk if they are not on the beach, at the end of the street is the well-known Globe.
  • Dubulti- next stop after Majori Worth going here if you want to see Lutheran Church. You can not go further if you are only interested in a walk around Jurmala and the sea itself.

By water from Riga


In the warm months (from May to September), the New Way motor ship runs from Riga to Jurmala. The cost of an adult one-way ticket is 15-20 €. Travel time is two and a half hours.

The ship departs from the pier located opposite the Riga Castle on the Daugava embankment.

The ship also has a second daily route in Jurmala - an hour walk along the Lielupe River. Ticket prices 5€.

What is better not to go to the resort

When you are wondering how to get from Riga to Jurmala on your own, you should remember that you are dealing with the traditional name of several Latvian villages located on the seashore. All of them are famous for their gorgeous beaches with quartz sand. Not without reason, in translation, the name of this place means "the edge of the water."

What is not worth driving? Probably by car or taxi. The latter method is quite expensive - it costs about 30 euros (2346 rubles). But if you choose public transport, you will get there in about the same half an hour, only you will pay immeasurably less.

You can rent a car if you want to see the surroundings of Latvia. But does it make sense to do it just for the sake of Jurmala? Most travelers agree that it is not. And you will spend more on gasoline on the road than on a train ticket.

Buses and minibuses

Various types of public transport depart from the capital of Latvia and pass through Jurmala. Mostly these are buses or minibuses. The best starting point is Rigas SAO.

This is the main bus station of the capital. If it is more convenient for you to get from the railway station, you can depart from Rigas MTS. In Jurmala, buses arrive at Lielupe or Dubulti.

Public transport costs from 1.5 euros (117 rubles). How to get from Riga to Jurmala by minibus? They run from the railway station of the capital of Latvia, not far from the Origo shopping center.

In the summer season minibuses depart quite often - every quarter of an hour. In winter, this type of transport is less in demand. Therefore, minibuses run approximately once an hour.

Riga - Jurmala: how to get there by train

The fact is that Jurmala is a rather large resort. It stretched along the seashore. Therefore, such a station as Jurmala simply does not exist. It is nothing more than a direction.

It is not enough just to say that you want a Riga - Jurmala ticket. How to get to a specific station? You have to figure out for yourself which area of ​​the resort you need.

By the way, station names are announced only in Latvian. But this is quite understandable, and besides, they are displayed on the electronic scoreboard. Tickets cost from 1.4 euros (109 rubles).

Rules for traveling by train

It is not enough to know how to get from Riga to Jurmala. You also need to follow the rules for traveling by rail in Latvia. For example, as in many European countries, you must not only buy a ticket, but also validate it at the station or on the platform.

The conductors in the carriages of Latvian trains are at the same time controllers. One of them will definitely come up to you to put a stamp on the ticket.

Where to go?

So how to get from Riga to Jurmala by rail? You must know the area where you leave. Thus, the Lielupe station is the first in the direction of the train.

It is quiet, calm and you can go around almost the whole of Jurmala along the beach. In order to swim in the sea, that's it.

Then comes Bulduri. This inconspicuous station is closest to the sea. From it you can already see Dzintari, where the famous concert hall is located and various well-known events are held.

The central station of Jurmala is called Majori, where all the main attractions of the resort are located. Here, mostly tourists walk.

The last station of interest to travelers is called "Dubulti". It is also very close to the sea.

Round-trip tickets are best bought at the box office. Then it will be cheaper. Travel documents are valid until the end of the day for any train in this direction.

All electric trains go to Jurmala with the final stations "Dubulti", "Sloka" or "Tukums". If you are in doubt where exactly to go, feel free to take a ticket to Maiori.

Those who arrive in the capital of Latvia by plane may have problems getting to the resort. The fact is that the airport is located somewhere in the middle between Riga and Jurmala.

And if earlier there was a bus, now the hub and the resort are not directly connected by any public transport. Can be reached by taxi. But if you are a budget tourist, it is better to take a bus to the center of the country's capital, and then change.

If you know how to get from Riga to Jurmala, you just need to understand how to arrive at the center from the airport. Locals recommend bus route 22. They run frequently and you can carry luggage for free. Tickets are bought from the driver.

True, if you take the 22nd bus to the center of Riga, and then change, for example, to an electric train, it will take you as much as 2 hours to travel to Jurmala. But you can do smarter. You do not take the city bus, but the minibus 241. The airport is the final stop. Therefore, minibuses are usually empty. Get out of it at the railway station "Imanta" (ask the driver in advance). There you can transfer to the train to Jurmala and in 10 minutes you will be there.

On the ship

How to get from Riga to Jurmala by boat? By boat. Although, in truth, it is believed that this is more of a tourist attraction than public transport. Instead of 30 minutes, you will spend several hours on the road, and even pay from 20 to 40 euros (1564-3128 rubles). The boat runs not all year round, but only during the tourist season, from May 1 to September 30.

The boat departs from the pier opposite the Riga Castle. And in Jurmala he arrives in the Majori region. There is a pier there. Locals call this ship "sea tram". Although the prices there, of course, are not like public transport.

But if you want to combine a trip to Jurmala with entertainment for children, with an exciting excursion or a romantic pastime, then a boat is the best choice.

Bicycle

We have already said that you can get to the Baltic resort without any transport at all. So, if you still decide to travel light and practice a healthy lifestyle, here's another way to get from Riga to Jurmala.

It is easy to rent an “iron horse” in the capital of Latvia. It's only an hour drive, maybe a little more. The road is convenient and comfortable. A safe bike path runs through the city. In good weather, you can move along the beach between different areas of the resort. No wonder the inhabitants of Riga themselves go to Jurmala in this way.

Since Jurmala is located at some distance from Riga, all tourists who choose this resort for their summer vacation have to get here from Riga on their own.

Train

If you arrive in the capital of Latvia by train, it is most logical to continue your journey to Jurmala by train. The schedule of electric trains can be found in the building of the Riga station or, but it makes no sense to look for the Jurmala station in it - there is simply no such thing. Choose the direction to Tukums or Sloka - this is Jurmala. If you need to go to its center, then Majori station will be yours. The first train leaves Riga at 05:50, and the last one at 23:36.

Electric trains are the most profitable way to get to Jurmala: although the ticket costs a little more than by car, they do not stand in city traffic jams. The interval of movement of trains is about 30 minutes.

It is better to buy a ticket at the box office of the station. Its price for one way is 1.90€. You can also buy a ticket directly from the conductor in the car, but then it will be 30% more expensive.

On weekdays, the fare from 10:00 to 15:00 is 25% cheaper. Travel time - 30 min. You can always check the train schedule on the website LDZ.lv.

Shuttle taxi

From railway station

Another way to get from the railway station to Jurmala is a fixed-route taxi. Its roundabout is opposite the station. It will take 30-35 minutes to get there. Cars depart towards the resort in summer every 10 minutes from 06:00 to 23:50. Among the accumulation of cars you need to look for minibuses under the following numbers:

  • No. 7018 Riga - Spunnciems - Jaunkemeri, runs only in the early morning and late evening;
  • No. 7021 Riga - Dubulti, makes ten flights a day;
  • No. 7023 Riga - Sloka, runs in 10-15 minutes.

The issue price is about 1.24 €. The money for the fare must be given directly to the driver, having previously warned him about your final stop. Minus minibuses - traffic jams on city streets.

From Riga Airport

If you got to the capital of Latvia by plane, then you will most likely have to get from the air gates of the city to the resort with a transfer. You can get to the station by city bus number 22 to the stop "Stockmann" centrs, and then use the train or minibus.

During the tourist season there is another option. From June 3 to October 31, a direct bus to Jurmala runs from Riga Airport. The ticket price is about 3€. The fare must be paid by the driver.

An alternative option is the city taxi No. 241. On it, you should get to the Imanta station, where you can transfer to the train going towards Tukums. The whole journey will take less than an hour, and the cost will not exceed 1.5 € per person, which is half the price of a direct bus.

When traveling with a family or a large company, it may make sense to use a transfer service from Riga Airport to Jurmala hotels. This service is about 2000 rubles, if ordered in advance. You will be met at the airport and taken to the door of your hotel in a comfortable car. You can calculate the cost and order a transfer.

From the Riga bus station to the street. Pragas, 1 to the railway station is only 500 m. Further to Jurmala, you can either follow the train or take any transit bus going towards Lielupe or Dubulta. The schedule is available directly at the bus station or on the website. You can use the bus to Ventspils (at least 11 trips a day from 07:10 to 22:40). Travel time is 40 minutes. A ticket worth 1.24 € is paid at the box office of the station or with the driver.

Personal car

Ventspils highway (E22, Karļa Uļmaņa gatve) leads from Riga towards Jurmala. In front of the bridge over the Lielupe River, when turning to the right, you need to be very careful not to get on the ring road. Travel time will be 15-20 minutes. Entrance to the city from April 1 to September 30 is paid. In 2014, the pass costs 2€, but it entitles you to free parking in the city during the day. However, if you have booked a hotel room or are going to get medical treatment in a sanatorium, you do not need to purchase an entry ticket.

River transport

This is the most expensive and slowest option, but it is more like entertainment. From May 1 to September 30, from the pier in front of the Presidential Palace next to the Cable-stayed bridge in Old Riga, every day at 11:00 a.m., the New wave motor ship sails to Jurmala along the Lielupe River. This is a great option to get to Jurmala by sea for tourists who live in Riga but want to spend a day in Jurmala. The ferry departs back at 17:30 from the Maiori pier.

Travel time is 2.5 hours. The cost of a one-way ticket is 15-20 € (50% discount for children).

Travel time is about 30 minutes. The last bus from the airport leaves at 00:10, so at night you can only get there by taxi.

Where to find a stop? At the airport, boarding is behind parking lot P1 opposite the exit from the terminal, landing is right at the entrance. In the city center you need a stop Grecinieku iela. It is located near the Town Hall Square and the House of the Blackheads - practically in the Old Town. Please note that in the direction to the airport, the bus stop is combined with the tram - that is, minibuses and buses travel on rails. This confused us a little - until the last moment we did not know which side to wait for the bus.

Tickets and prices. Everything is simple here: in Riga there are e-talons - cardboard or plastic tickets with a chip. It must be applied to the validator in transport. Operates in trams, trolleybuses and buses. There are many types of them:

  1. Yellow disposable e-talon for one trip. Cost: 1.15 euros at points of sale and 2 euros from the driver.
  2. Blue reusable e-talon. There are temporary and for several trips: for 3 and 5 days - 10 and 15 euros, respectively; for 2 trips - 2.30 euros, for 4 - 4.60 euros, for 10 - 10.90 euros, etc. Read more about ticket types and prices for.

Where to buy tickets? The easiest way to buy a yellow ticket is from the driver (2 euros). But it's cheaper at the bus stop, at the Narvesen kiosks or at the "Welcome to Riga!" on the 1st floor in the arrival sector E - 1.15 euros. Also sold at Preses apvienība kiosks, Latvijas Pasts post offices and "Rīgas satiksme" ticket sales points. We bought from Narvesen. By minibus

Another way to get from Riga Airport to the center is a minibus № 241 , which goes along the route Centrs - Lidosta ("Center - Airport"). Departure to the airport from the Esplanade stop. At the airport, minibuses stop at the same place as bus 22. The minibus runs every 10-15 minutes, the journey takes about 30 minutes. The last minibus from the airport is at 22:08. By taxi

Taxi from Riga Airport to the city center is a comfortable but expensive way to get to the city. Suitable for those who have a lot of luggage, flew in with family or company, or simply appreciate convenience.

There is no shortage of taxis at the airport - there is always a line of green Baltic taxis in front of the exit. We advise you to book a car in advance at the Kiwi Taxi service - it's safe and reliable. The driver will meet you with a sign and help you carry your luggage. By minibus

To get from Riga Airport to the bus station, you will need a minibus № 222 (Centrala stacija - Lidosta). In the center, it stops at Grēcinieku iela and 13.janvāra iela, then at the Central Bus Station. The minibus stop at the airport is in the same place as the bus number 22. They run every 10-15 minutes, the journey takes about half an hour. The last minibus from the airport is at 22:08. By taxi

Another way to get to the bus station is by taxi. Fast, convenient, but more expensive. We advise you to use trusted companies - order a car in advance online on the Kiwi Taxi service.
