Story

In 695 the city was called Julfar. This is the first surviving mention in the chronicle, in general, evidence of the presence of people dates back to the first millennium BC. The settlements were founded by the Armenians, who fled from the Mongols and arrived in the Arabian Peninsula through Persia. Julfar was located at the crossroads of trade routes. Here they traded pearls.

The wealthy trading city was often raided by pirates. Observation towers have survived from the time when it was necessary to notify the townspeople about sea robbers in a timely manner. The towers also served as beacons for merchant ships.

Of the interesting places worth visiting, one can note the Hatt thermal springs, the Iceland water park, the Wadi Bi canyon in the Hajar mountains, and shopping centers.

The purposes of trips are different: it is enough for someone to admire the views of the canyon, located in the middle of the desert at a height of one kilometer above sea level; someone masters rock climbing, trekking and mountain biking.

It should be remembered:

  1. Extreme sports require appropriate training.
  2. The trip to Wadi B Canyon takes the whole day. It is worth taking a supply of water with you, even if food is included in the price.

Shopping centers

Shopping is the most popular entertainment among tourists in the UAE. There are several malls in the city, among which stand out:

  • "Manar", located near Al-Mantaser Road, the oldest in the city, offers goods of all categories;
  • Safir, located on Sheikh Rashed Bin Said Rd, known mainly for souvenir shops and food courts;
  • Al-Hamra, located on Sheikh Mohammad Bin Salem Rd, you can find shops of different categories.

Shopping here is not as well developed as in Dubai. The city is visited for the sake of historical and natural attractions. But tourists here will definitely not be left without souvenirs, food, clothes and accessories.

The Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah is the northernmost of the Emirates of the United Arab Emirates. This is the youngest emirate in the UAE, it was formed in 1909, separated from the emirate of Sharjah.

It borders on the west and south with the emirates of Umm Al Quwain, Sharjah and Fujairah.

The waters of the Persian Gulf and 65 kilometers of sandy coast are a natural limitation in the north.

In the east of Ras al-Khaimah, the border with the governorate of Musandam of the Sultanate of Oman runs along the slopes of the Jabal al-Hajar mountains.

The main cities of the emirate are Ras Al Khaimah (the capital), Al Jazeera Al Hamra, Rams and Hatt.

To the south of the metropolis, between the territories of the emirates of Sharjah, Fujairah and the Sultanate of Oman, there is a large area with the cities of Musafi and Khuweilat.

Ras Al Khaimah is a place where a rich historical heritage, ruins and sights are harmoniously combined with a unique topography.

Small rivers and ancient forts, quaint villages with lookout towers, beautiful palm groves and picturesque hills, azure coastline and desert dunes - all this can be found in Ras Al Khaimah, the land of mysteries and surprises.

According to legend, the Queen of Sheba stayed here for the night during her journey to Solomon.

The city of Ras al-Khaimah (172,000 people - 2012) is the capital of the Emirate of Ras al-Khaimah (263,000 people - 2012).

The sea bay divides the city into two parts - the Old City on the Ras al-Khaimah peninsula and the Al-Nakhil district on the other side of the bay. These areas are connected by a large modern bridge leading to Al Hisn rd.

In the old part of Ras al-Khaimah, there are residential buildings, educational institutions and several government agencies.

Of the historical buildings, the ancient fort with watchtowers, the former residence of the emir, and the area where archaeological excavations are being carried out are noteworthy.

In this historic area, the main and oldest market of Ras al-Khaimah, El Quwain, is still noisy and amazes with its exoticism.

In the modern, always lively Al-Nakhil district, the main state and municipal institutions, offices of commercial firms, shopping centers, and markets are concentrated.

Closer to the coast stretches the most modern and popular area among tourists - Al-Hamra Marina with its excellent beaches and green alleys.

There are hotels, large shops and souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes and clubs. The pride of Al-Hamra is the Royal Yacht Club, where a sailing regatta is held annually. Another iconic corner of the eastern part of Ras al-Khaimah is the city's Al-Qawasim embankment, which stretches for almost 3 kilometers.

Locals like to spend their free time here, walking in the shade of tropical trees, having a bite to eat in one of the nice cafes or restaurants.

For athletes, there are running and cycling paths on the embankment, and tourists can visit the Pearl Museum located here, which demonstrates a magnificent collection of pearls of various sizes, shapes and colors.

Hotels, shops, restaurants and other entertainment facilities have been built in the tourist area of Ras Al Khaimah.

This zone is called Khaat and has on its territory famous mineral water springs, actively used for the treatment of various diseases.

Tourists also have the opportunity to test the healing properties of local mineral springs.

Story

Ras al-Khaimah - translated from Arabic - the top, the head of the tent - takes us to those days when the fire, lit at the highest point, served as a reliable beacon for sailors.

Recent archaeological research carried out under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, has shown that some finds date back to the 5th century BC. and testified that this emirate carried on a brisk trade with Mesopotamia (modern Iraq, Syria and Turkey).

The Dai Fort, built in the 16th century, played an important role in the military and political life of the emirate.

The location of the fort made it possible to control most of the bay and the adjacent coast, which made it possible to successfully repel the attacks of enemy troops.

In December 1819, locals witnessed a battle between the defenders of Ras al-Khaimah and the attacking British troops.

After a fierce firefight, the British occupied the fort and then blew it up.

In 2001, the fort was restored, the interiors were updated and opened to receive guests and tourists.

Near the village of Daya, tourists watch the burial grounds of the ancient culture of Umm al-Nar, which are already 5 thousand years old.

There is a “Heritage Village” where you can watch a reconstruction of the traditional way of life of the Arabs of the Persian Gulf.

You can climb the hill, see the fort and a beautiful view of the surroundings.

The Stairway to Heaven track is also located here. This is a mountain path with many ledges.

By visiting the ancient Al Husen Fort, built in the middle of the 18th century, guests of the emirate can get a complete picture of the traditions and history of the Emirate, and will also be able to visit an exhibition of history, archeology and crafts.

In 1987, His Highness Sheikh Saqr Bin Mohammad Al Qassimi, Ruler of the Emirate, issued a decree establishing the Ras Al Khaimah National Museum at the fort.

Attractions Ras Al Khaimah

Ras Al Khaimah National Museum- This is primarily the Al Falaya Fort, which was built in the 17th century as a summer residence for the Al Qassimi family.

It consists of sixty towers, which are located around the entire perimeter of the fort and in ancient times served to protect the city.

This place is of historical importance, a peace treaty was signed here in 1819 and in 1820 between the sheikhs of the Persian Gulf and the British government.

Now the fort houses the National Museum, which exhibits various archaeological finds. The museum is divided into sections.

The section at the top of the building is very interesting - historical manuscripts and documents are displayed here, as well as weapons that belonged to the ruling family.

The fort had a police station and a prison, and in 1987 the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah was founded. Here you can see ancient household items, dishes, clothes, weapons, valuable archaeological finds and much more.

Ancient city

On the territory of Ras al Khaimah was the famous ancient city of Julfar, known in the past as a flourishing pearl trading center, the remains of which are being sought by archaeologists.

The name "Julfar" is often found in various names of the principality.

Watchtowers

The road north from Umm al Quwain enters the emirate of Ras al Khaimah at Wadi Batha.

To the north, at a distance of several kilometers east of the road, two watchtowers are visible.

They served as protection from the land side of the village of Jazirat al Hamra (Jazirat al Hamra), located on the coast.

Wadi Azima

To the south, the big roads turn into an extensive network of tracks going through the mountains. One of the most enjoyable road trips in Wadi Asimah.

Here you will be met by vast reservoirs among palm groves and thickets of oleander.

Wadi Kavr

The southernmost part of Ras al Khaimah includes the large area of Wadi Qawr.

On its border is the post of Oman. Wadi Qawr was densely populated 3,000 years ago, according to English archaeologists.

Tombs and an Iron Age settlement have been found here, containing a large number of decorated vessels made from a soft stone now known as talc.

Sheikh Zayed Mosque

Sheikh Zayed Mosque is in every emirate of the country.

In honor of this most respected person in the country - the first president of the UAE, this mosque was also built in the most remote emirate of Ras al-Khaimah. Today it is indeed the largest and most attractive mosque in the emirate of Ras al Khaimah, with four tall minarets.

We are not in favor of traveling with a tour operator, but we believe that the Emirates is one of the few countries where this is justified. Except Dubai, of course 🙂

Our vacation in Ras Al Khaimah - it is the first in the UAE - came out very spontaneous: here is the beginning of February, and we are sitting on English courses, here someone is talking about a tour, in a week a company of six people is waiting for a flight at the airport !

What prompted us to choose Ras Al Khaimah? A good 4-star hotel for an adequate price - $400 per person. And why do other tourists celebrate the emirate?

  • Despite the provinciality (an hour and a half from Dubai), this is one of the best places for a beach holiday in the UAE. Ras al-Khaimah is moderately popular, there are sandy beaches, a clear sea, or rather a bay, and a bunch of hotels on all inclusive
  • All other advantages come down to prices compared to the luxury center: large chain hotels (Rixos, Hilton) are cheaper - local $150 per night vs Dubai $280; for 65,000 rubles you can take a tour with accommodation on the first line, and not 10 km from the beach; cafes-restaurants are also much more budgetary

We would recommend the resort for a classic beach/hotel getaway with 1-2 trips to Dubai or Abu Dhabi (see how it is there). Reviews of Ras al-Khaimah carry a similar essence. Not bad here with children: all inclusive + animation + large water park = cheerful kids, calm parents.

When is the best time to go to Ras Al Khaimah? Weather

We flew from Kazan on a charter flight Fly Dubai / A street in Ras Al Khaimah

  • Best Season: October November ; April May

The beaches of Ras Al Khaimah are sandy and located along the Persian Gulf. In general, the coastal strip of the emirate is divided into private areas(beaches belonging to hotels on the first line) and public. All of them are clean, cleaned daily - except that private ones are a little more often, but they differ in infrastructure.

Public beaches are free and provide only the sea and sand - no sunbeds, no toilets, no cabins. Hotel beaches and their buns - sun loungers, umbrellas, swimming pools, entertainment - are available to guests, although "strangers" will also be sheltered for a certain amount (range: Hilton will ask for 33 AED per day, and Waldorf - 315 AED).

In the complexes far from the sea, a free shuttle bus is organized several times a day. They are usually taken to public areas. The exception is if the hotel has a beach “brother”: for example, we lived in Ras Al Khaimah in a 4 * hotel 5 km from the bay, and swam on a private 4 * beach.

Cafes and restaurants - where to eat?

In Ras Al Khaimah, as elsewhere, all catering is divided into 4 categories:

  • Fast food

Several McDonald's, KFC, Burger King - Arabs are also fans of fries and burgers. For the first, by the way, McDelivery works - delivery (for orders from 25 AED).

    • Combo in KFC (sandwich, fries, cola) - 15-20 AED
    • Big Mac - 15 AED
    • Cheeseburger - 6 AED
    • Big fries - 10 AED

Where to go? Drive names into Google maps, there are in every area.

    For local

Cuisine for locals (Arab and Afghan eateries) always helps out - kebabs, shawarma, hummus, falafel - inexpensive and tasty. And on the "drink" - juices, cocktails and shakes; rarely tea-coffee and no alcohol.

    • Fruit shake - 8-10 AED
    • Club sandwich with fries - 10-15 AED
    • Soups - 8-12 AED
    • Mixed grill (a large plate of meat, vegetables and fries) - 35-40 AED
    • Hummus/Falafel – 8-10 AED

Where to go? Discovered by orientation in place, but we will suggest a few memorable ones:

✓ Better Taste - next to the Bin Majid Acacia Hotel. Super cafe where we ate every day! Special like for seafood soup 🙂

✓ Al Comodor Flafel Restaurant - 24-hour falafel (best in Ras Al Khaimah, according to reviews)

✓ Al Dahab Cafeteria - a cool smoothie not far from the falafel

✓ Pure Vegetarian Restaurant - Indian dishes in hyper-diversity, approved by vegetarians (a kilometer from the city's DoubleTree)

    Restaurants

Places to enjoy. You can feel the level of service, but the prices on the menu are not terrifying. In such it is still problematic to find alcohol.

    • Salad - 15-20 AED
    • Grilled fish with vegetables - 40-50 AED
    • Shrimp – 50 AED
    • Mixed grill – 50 AED
    • Freshly squeezed juice - 13-15 AED

    Where to go?

✓ Lebanese House Restaurant - Lebanese food, homemade and delicious, at the Hilton Garden Inn. Not to say that this is a true restaurant, but it’s far from Ahmed’s shop either.

✓ Al Tanoor Al Iraqi Restaurant - an Iraqi restaurant near the Bin Majid Beach Hotel. Tourists praise meat dishes

✓ This also includes food courts at Al Hamra Mall, Manar Mall, RAK Mall and Safeer Mall.

    Hotel restaurants

Top restaurants in Ras Al Khaimah are located at no less luxurious hotels of the Ritz Carlton, DoubleTree, etc. chains. Everyone can drop in for lunch-dinner "from the street", but it is better to book a table in advance.

    • Salad - 50-60 AED
    • Pasta - 40-85 AED
    • Mixed grill (meat / seafood) - 90-110 AED / 150-200 AED
    • Alco cocktail / bottled beer, 0.33 – 40-55 AED / 30 AED
    • Fruit smoothie - 30-35 AED

    Where to go?

✓ Farmhouse at the Ritz Carlton - the concept "on the table straight from the farm": fresh vegetables, meat (steaks), seafood

✓ Basilico at Cove Rotana - Mediterranean cuisine daily, but you can drop by for Friday brunch (199 AED per person)

✓ Trader Vic’s Mai Tai Lounge at Hilton Al Hamra Beach & Golf is a well-known chain of restaurants with Polynesian style and Asian influences in food

The specificity of some areas of the United Arab Emirates is "dry law". But - except for Ras al-Khaimah 🙂 You won't be able to buy alcohol in ordinary supermarkets. All alcoholic drinks are concentrated in special stores - Al Hamra Cellar, JMK Cellars, Centaurus International. Prices: the most inexpensive bottled beer is Amstel, 0.33 - costs 4.5 AED; a liter of Jack Daniels - 130 AED.

Food prices

Prices in Ras Al Khaimah, although lower than other emirates, but in comparison with Russian ones are still high. Common supermarket chains are Carrefour and Spinneys. You can also buy prepared food there. The cost of items in stores:

  • Bottle of water, 1.5 l - from 2 AED
  • Bananas, kg - from 6 AED
  • Dates, kg - from 10 AED
  • Salted trout, 100 gr – from 15 AED
  • Olives by weight, 100 gr - from 2.5 AED
  • Parmesan, 200 gr - from 23 AED
  • Sliced bread - from 4 AED

Hotels in Ras Al Khaimah – which one to choose?

Territory 4* Bin Majid Beach Resort
(we were taken there to the beach from a city hotel of the same chain)

We will go over briefly and highlight the most popular hotels in Ras Al Khaimah according to the reviews of tourists, we will indicate the cost of the tour for 7 nights for two with a flight from Moscow. By the way, there are not so many of them - hotels - here.

  • Good and inexpensive

    1. 4 * - economy hotel 3 km from the beach (free bus), but with decent food
    Tour: from 55,000 rubles

    Tour: from 60,000 rubles

    3. 4 * - the complex where we stayed. The tour was taken without food, and the main criteria were - cheap and beachy. The first hotel fully corresponded to this, and we went to the beach for free, to a private area from 4 *

    4. 4 * - a good hotel on the first line with a private beach + common areas with 5 *

Things to Do in Ras Al Khaimah

At the parking lot of the 4* Bin Majid Beach Resort

Ras al-Khaimah - translated means "cape of small huts", and there are no skyscrapers and metropolitan gloss. The good news is that apart from the beaches, there are a couple of interesting places. The bad news is that some people might get bored if they don't go out of town.

  • There is the National Museum (5 AED) and the Old Town, which is interesting to walk around and look at the life of the locals
  • There was also its own water park Ice Land Waterpark, but it was closed

What else to see in Ras Al Khaimah?

- In the east - Khodjar mountains, the highest point in the UAE (1911 meters) Jebel Jais(Jebel Jais), with great views, and the longest in the world bungee(from 325 AED). You can lower the extreme and ascend to the observation deck, special training is not required.

– Thermal springs: such a natural oasis with hot water up to +40°С. Now there are SPA centers, cafes and restaurants on this place. Worth a look!

– Dayah Fort: an old fortress with an Arab village. Something like a "visiting card" of the emirate, it can be seen on magnets and postcards. There is also the "Stairway to Heaven", a dangerous mountain path with panoramic views of the Persian Gulf.

- Fortress of al-Jazeera al-Hamra: a ghost town that was abandoned by people; abandoned houses, a mosque, in general, captures

Where can you go on your own?

Trip to Dubai and Safari somewhere in the desert

Ras al Khaimah on the map is somewhat distant from other emirates. But that doesn't mean they can't be reached.

Dubai

The bus to Dubai departs every hour from the bus station - RAK Bus Station. Travel - 25 AED one way; an hour and a half on the way, it follows to the Union metro station.

Dubai is worth a trip to see miracle skyscrapers, check out the crazy shopping mall Dubai Mall and stare at the stingrays and sharks in Dubai Aquarium(from $38, but you can also do it for free from the outside), and climb the Burj Khalifa tower (the tallest building in the world, from $42). And, of course, for the sake of the famous shopping. In the evening in Dubai, you can see colorful musical fountains for free - a breathtaking sight!

There is also a hop-on hop-off bus option - double-decker buses plying the iconic places of the city. Cheapest red City Sightseeing ticket: $63 per day (includes 5 routes, overnight bass tour and boat cruise). More expensive - on the burgundy BigBus: $ 75 per day (3 routes and the same).

Abu Dhabi

In Abu Dhabi, head for the impressions of the snow-white Sheikh Zayed Mosque. Options to get there:, rented car or excursion (250-300 AED).

One day worth highlighting and visiting Abu Dhabi with the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

shopping

Ras Al Khaimah is not the capital of shopping, but there is something to profit from here. There are 4 main shopping centers in the emirate: Manar Mall, RAK Mall, Al Hamra Mall and Safeer Mall. The most popular among tourists is Manar Mall, there are about 120 shops. Tourists note that shopping centers are still better in Dubai.

In the Old City is the Old Market with small Arabic shops. You can find interesting trinkets there. Another fascinating place is Al Nakhil, the Indian market. This is a whole area of the city, an anthill with a bunch of small shops.

Transport

Transport is difficult here. Internal, in the city, no. Buses run only from the central station to other emirates: to Umm Al Qaiwain (AED 10), Ajman (AED 15), Sharjah (AED 25) and Dubai (AED 25).

Therefore, only:

  • by taxi - landing 3 AED, further on the counter 1.86 AED per km
  • car rental - the minimum price is $43/day, if taken for a day; $28/day, if for three, i.e. depends on the time frame. If you have a rest with a company of 3-4 people, this is an ideal option. We advise you to watch and book on

The cost of gasoline is approximately 2.2 AED per liter.

Adviсe. In Ras Al Khaimah, it is customary to leave a tip - in restaurants, cafes and hotels. Women should wear clothes that cover their shoulders and knees when going out into the city. This is not a matter of safety, but of decency: the people here are friendly, but their culture and rules must be respected. According to tourists, in Ras Al Khaimah they make high-quality chocolate that can be brought as a gift. Also here, as elsewhere in the UAE

This oasis on the coast of the Persian Gulf has the most picturesque and abundant nature thanks to the fertile soils at the foot of the Hajjar Mountains, which have famous healing springs with mineral water.

The capital of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah is an actively developing resort that can offer guests both a comfortable beach holiday in luxury hotels at affordable prices, and a variety of entertainment - from cycling and camping in stunningly picturesque mountainous areas to diving, jeep safari to the desert or even aircraft training flights.

Travelers with children will love the Ice Land water park and the Zoo, while lovers of educational tourism will enjoy well-preserved forts and towers left over from the time of pirate attacks, an ethno-village or the amazing Pearl Museum, which the Emirates have been famous for since ancient times.

Despite the fact that this small emirate, located in the north of the Arabian Peninsula, was the last to become part of the UAE, many legends are associated with both the name and the history of the kingdom.

For example, according to one version, RAK received the name "top of the tent" because of the lighthouse, which in ancient times was installed on a rock near the Tunub Islands. According to the second version, the name is associated with a high mountain located in the emirate.

Another legend about the past of Ras Al Khaimah is connected with the famous Ethiopian Queen of Sheba and her trip to the biblical King Solomon. According to legend, during her journey, the proud beauty lingered in a beautiful palace located on fertile lands, where the capital of the emirate is now located.

Reliable facts tell us that on the coast of the Persian Gulf, the city of Julfar, founded by Armenian settlers, was built and flourished for several centuries. The local population was engaged in fishing, pearling, trade and went on ships on the sea. Goods flowed through the city from India and China.

Later, the power over the ports began to belong to Britain (until the 20th century), and the city was abandoned. But local pirates did not allow the empire to breathe freely. Therefore, the British nicknamed RAK "pirate coast".

What you need to know about the Emirates

At present, the emirate has said goodbye to the “pirate past”, and is engaged in the development of tourism at the expense of oil production. Here, comfortable hotels have been built on the coast and artificial islands are being poured, as in other emirates, but much attention is paid to the conservation of nature and the development of health tourism using mineral waters (in the Haat area).

As for local fresh fruits and vegetables grown in RAK, they will be offered in all the abundance of cafes and hotel restaurants. No one has repealed Prohibition in the emirate, but unlike neighboring kingdoms, there are shops where they sell alcohol to tourists without a special license, and there is more choice of restaurants with alcohol.

The security measures and rules of conduct in Ras Al Khaimah for tourists in general terms are the same as the rules for the rest of the UAE.

The capital of Ras Al Khaimah is divided by Khor Bay into large areas: the Old City in the west, where government agencies are located, the forts of Falaya and Al Hussein (it has a national RAK museum).

The new city in the eastern part of the capital (Al-Hamranya and Al-Nahil districts) is the place where the residence of the sheikh and the buildings of commercial companies, as well as the airport are located. The main areas of the city are connected by a bridge that spans the strait.

The Masafi region is known all over the world for its quality mineral water and fruit juices.

Hotel room prices are slightly higher in RAK when the season runs from September to April.

From the end of May to August, the air warms up to 38°C, which is not very comfortable for a beach holiday and walks during the hours of the greatest solar activity. However, due to the favorable location and the mountain range, hot dry winds from the desert are not felt on the coast.

In the "pre-oil" period, Falaya was used as the summer residence of the ruling family, in 1820 some of the buildings were given to the British. In this place, the signing of the treaty between the sheikhs and the British took place.

Currently, the buildings in the fort and part of the defensive structures have been restored. From the top there is a great view of the surroundings and the buildings themselves are quite colorful, the entrance to the territory is free. The museum complex includes a mosque, which is one of the most ancient in the UAE.
The modern Sheikh Zaidi Mosque is the largest and most beautiful in the Emirate.

One of the popular tourist attractions in RAK has long been the pearl museum, located on Al Qawassim Corniche (on the waterfront of the capital). In the museum, in addition to equipment for pearling (including boats), a luxurious collection of pearls and shells of various sizes and colors is presented. Some pearls are unique, such as the Miracle of Arabia. During the tour, they will also tell you how to distinguish natural pearls from artificially grown pearls.

Fort Daya is the place where in 1820 hostilities took place between the sheikhs and the British troops. Here, in addition to the fortress, tourists visit excavation sites (the tombs of the mysterious Uma al Nar culture, which is over 5000 years old, were discovered). Near the fort there is a reconstructed "heritage village" that recreates the life of the inhabitants of the emirate.

Near the Old City of Ras al Khaimah is a mysterious ghost town - Jazirat al-Hamra (or "Red Island"). Nobody lives here (the inhabitants were relocated to modern dwellings, but the settlement was preserved as an architectural and historical value). Jazirat al-Hamra has ancient structures built from crushed coral, including a unique ancient mosque, a fort, houses from different eras and an Arab market.

Races are held early in the morning, when there is still no heat. The spectacle is breathtaking and emotional. The track is located south of the city on the way to the airport.

What to see and do for tourists

Ice Land Water Park

Closed permanently in 2018.

This is an abandoned village, it is also called the “Arab ghost town”. Once upon a time, sailors, fishermen and pearl merchants lived here. At the beginning of the 20th century, the pearl trade almost stopped and people left the city.

The city seemed to freeze. Here, the fortress, market, mosques and many houses remained intact. The buildings are traditional in style, many of them made of coral stone. In Al Jazeera Al Ghamra, you can see how the inhabitants of the UAE lived before the start of oil production.

This place is unique in the United Arab Emirates, because it is not a reconstruction, but a real untouched old Arab city.

Hajjar mountains

Located in the east of the emirate. It will be interesting for lovers of mountain hiking and real climbers.

The highest peak in the United Arab Emirates is located precisely in Ras al-Khaimah, it is called Jebel Jais, the height is 1911 meters. Just below the top there is an observation deck. A commercial via ferrata route for climbers is open here, and a downhill zipline for daredevils is open.

The place is very interesting, but very dangerous, it is easy to stumble, and the path is not fenced.

Old Town and National Museum

In the Old City there is a market (souk), an ancient mosque and a fishing pier, where tourists are shown the process of manufacturing traditional Arab Dhow boats.

But the main attraction of the Old City is Al-Hisn Fort, the former residence of the emirs of Ras al-Khaimah of the Al-Qasimi dynasty. The same pirate leaders that the British defeated in the 19th century rule the emirate to this day.

The fort had a police station and a prison, and in 1987 the National Museum of Ras Al Khaimah was founded. Here you can see ancient household items, dishes, clothes, weapons, valuable archaeological finds and much more.

Ticket price: 5 dirhams for an adult, children are free.
