Almost all passengers know that there are fast and accelerated trains, branded and passenger trains, but not many people know how they differ. We propose to fill this gap in knowledge.

What are the trains?

First you need to understand the classification of trains. The classification criterion is the route speed, that is, the time it takes to travel the distance from one point to another. Read more about what trains are depending on speed, below.

high speed

The fastest are considered highly high speed trains. They are able to move at a speed of 200-400 km / h. Their main feature is that they cannot move on ordinary rails. For them, they build a special canvas that can withstand heavy loads. The high-speed highway appeared in the 2000s and continues to develop rapidly. Now the fastest trains run from the capital to other cities, and also allow you to get from Russia to European cities.

For example, the most famous high-speed train is Sapsan, which runs between the capital and St. Petersburg and allows you to overcome the distance between these cities twice as fast. "Allegro" is an international high-speed train, as it runs from northern capital in Helsinki.

Now Russian Railways is building a high-speed railway, the length of which is about 1,500 km. It will be able to travel trains at a speed of about 400 km/h. It will connect Moscow with the Volga region and Siberia. The train will run from the capital through Kazan to Yekaterinburg. In the future, it is planned to build a similar highway from Moscow to Sochi.

High-speed

The route speed of such trains is slightly lower - about 140 km / h, although on flat sections of the road they can accelerate to 200 km / h. In ordinary life, there is no separation between high-speed and high-speed trains, since a special canvas is needed to move both categories.

  • "Lastochka" is a train that moves at an average speed of 140-160 km/h. Such trains travel from the capital and St. Petersburg to Nizhny Novgorod, as well as around the Krasnodar Territory.
  • "Strizh" - travels at speeds up to 200 km / h on the route from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod and back.

Ambulance

The technical speed of fast trains does not differ from passenger trains, but due to the fact that they make few stops (only at large stations and train stations), they cover the distance much faster. The route speed of such trains ranges from 50 to 90 km/h. The ticket price is slightly more expensive. In the vastness of the state, hundreds of trains still travel, and in different directions.

For example, a train called "Sura" runs from Moscow to Penza, and "Lotos" will connect the capital with Astrakhan. A fast train also runs between Moscow and Chelyabinsk. Southern Urals". There are other trains of the same type on other routes. Usually they do not have a special name, but are simply numbered. Fast trains depart from Moscow to almost all regions.

Accelerated

There is no official name. This category includes freight trains that move faster than conventional trains. They are used to transport perishable goods. Not applicable for the carriage of passengers.

Branded

In terms of speed, branded trains are fast, as they move at a speed of 50-90 km / h. But this is their only similarity. A feature of branded trains is a high level of comfort and service. Passengers in them can count on a set of additional services that make the trip as comfortable as possible. The basic level of service is also set at a high level. Conductors working on such trains must undergo special training.

All branded trains have their own name. For example, a train running from the capital to Perm is called "Kama", and from Moscow to Tomsk - "Tomich", from the capital to Kirov - "Vyatka" and so on. When buying tickets, you should pay attention to whether there is travel document mark "fast". In its absence, the train will move like a regular passenger train, but will have comfortable conditions and a range of services for the convenience of passengers.

Passenger

Such trains overcome the route at a speed of up to 50 km / h, although technically they can travel no slower than trains belonging to the “ambulance” category. The main difference is that they stop at every stop, which significantly slows down its movement along the route. Such trains are in great demand, despite the fact that they move slowly.

There are two reasons for this:

  1. The fare is quite low, especially compared to other categories.
  2. On a passenger train, you can get to a small station or a medium-sized locality. Fast trains simply do not stop at such stations.

Passenger trains are branded, that is, they have an improved service, there are additional services. An example of such a train is the "White Nights" - a train that runs from Moscow to Vologda. If the ticket does not contain the designation "ambulance", it means that it is a passenger one by default.

The number of passenger trains is decreasing every year. They are being replaced by trains that can move faster.

The long-distance train number consists of a three-digit number and one letter. They can be used to determine the direction of the train, its type (passenger, fast, high-speed, etc.). Each symbol makes the train number unique and often corresponds to the origin railway.

For example, in each direction there is a train 001/002. The letter next to the number is needed to distinguish train 001A St. Petersburg - Moscow from train 001G Kazan - Moscow.

At the same time, trains with the same number never meet at the same station and do not go along the same route. Each number has its own meaning.

Classification of trains by numbers

  • 001-150 - fast trains that are on the schedule all year round(including )
  • 151-298 - fast trains for seasonal or one-time purposes (allowed to holidays, or only in summer, or only in winter, etc.)
  • 301-450 - year-round passenger trains
  • 451-598 — passenger trains seasonal or occasional
  • 701-750 - high-speed trains (average route speed, including stops, is 91 km / h or more; for example, Lastochki)
  • 751-788 - high-speed trains (from 161 km / h; for example, "", "Allegro", "")

We told in more detail about the types and decoding of train numbers.

  • If the number is even, then the train goes north or east.
  • If the number is odd, the train goes south or west.

Suburban (four-digit numbers 6001-7628) and special trains also have their own numbering:

  • 901-920 - service trains
  • 921-940 - tourist trains (comfortable excursion trains for tourists)
  • 941-960 - human trains (when the freight train also includes wagons with people transported according to cargo documents)
  • 961-970 - passenger and freight trains
  • 971-998 - mail and luggage trains.

Some trains change their number along the way - when they change direction. After all, the railway does not go in a straight line from one city to another. The ticket indicates the number under which the train will depart from your station.

For example, a train station may announce that train 227/228 is arriving. This means that the train will change number.

The range of numbers for each type of train ends at 98, and the next one starts at 01. This is done so that the first digit makes it clear which train it is. If you make train 299, then when you change direction, it will have the number 300. Train 299/300 is more difficult to classify at first glance, confusion can arise.

What do the letters in the train number mean?

The letter is needed to make the train number unique. Most often it means railway sent composition:

  • A - October
  • G - Gorkovskaya
  • M - Moscow
  • N - West Siberian
  • E - Far Eastern

... etc., to all letters of the alphabet. Accordingly, when the train goes back, the letter in the number most often changes, because it leaves from a station belonging to another division of the railway.

Sometimes the letters are changed if the train runs like a branded train on some days, and like a regular one on others. The numbers must be different - it is the letter that is changed.

A train can have two numbers with the same numbers but different letters. This happens if part of the wagons belongs to one carrier, and part to another. At the same time they go in the same composition.

It is enough for the passenger to know the train number of three digits. It is announced at the station.

Happy travels!

The most popular transport in our country is rail. Everyone who regularly uses it, of course, knows that there are different categories of trains according to the level of service.

What is a branded train

Its main difference is that in terms of comfort, such a composition is one step higher than usual. It has a wide range of services and a higher level of service.

Widely known, thanks to a literary work, received a foreign branded "Orient Express".

The first such train in the Soviet Union appeared in June 1931 and was called the Strela. Until now, it, completely renovated and renamed the "Red Arrow", continues to carry passengers comfortably.

All compositions of this level certainly have their own name. They differ in specific individual design. All carriages of branded trains are designed in the same style inside and out. Uniforms for service personnel are sewn in the same color scheme and with the corresponding logos.

Service Offered

A branded train is formed from wagons with a service life not exceeding twelve years from the date of manufacture or overhaul.

It is mandatory to have a restaurant and highly comfortable carriages. Service services are immediately included in the ticket price.

Bed linen is used for a short period of time and is quickly updated for fresh.

The branded train has dry closets, heating systems, air conditioners.

The formation of a service team of such trains is carried out from highly qualified conductors who have passed special certification for this.

Services provided to passengers

The minimum range of services offered includes:
⦁ provision of cool boiled water;
⦁ bed cleaning service and its making;
⦁ three times a day offer of tea or coffee;
⦁ provision of heated food, and in economy class they offer 3 or more options for meals, in business - 4 or more, in suite - 5 or more;
⦁ providing drinks (in economy class - a half-liter bottle of mineral water, in business class - at least two types of juices or soft drinks and four types of alcohol);
⦁ the offer of newspapers (in economy class: three or more titles, in business class - four, in luxury - five).

All carriage categories have their own set of sanitary and hygienic products:
⦁ for the economy class, it consists of napkins, combs, brushes and toothpaste, toothpicks;
⦁ for business class, the listed set is expanded with soap, a handkerchief, a shoe horn;
⦁ in the suite, this includes the addition of a shampoo bottle, shower gel, washing sponge, in addition, there are slippers, a terry bathrobe, hand cream, shoe polish.

Compositions "premium"

The year 2009 was marked by the appearance of premium class trains, the comfort of which is the highest. They are distinguished by a uniform style of execution - gray and silver, interior design, the obligatory presence of the Russian Railways logo.

The train formation scheme is also the same: a luxury car, three SV cars, up to a dozen compartment cars, a couple of reserved seat cars, and a restaurant are required.

The cars are new, they have magnetic locks, heating systems, air conditioners, dry closets, LCD TVs, network adapters, devices where passengers can plug headphones.

The train has cable TV, Internet access, computer games.

If necessary, you can order hot dishes from the waiter in the compartment.

Signature double-decker train

The appearance in the Russian Railways system has made it possible to increase passenger traffic in the most popular destinations.

In February last year, such a train was launched on the route between the capital and St. Petersburg under the number 5/6. It was called "Two-story structure".

The schedule of branded trains is always compiled taking into account the convenience for passengers. Departure from both ends at 22.50, respectively, arrival at the final destination - about 6.45.

Given the increase in the total number of seats, it became possible to reduce the fare. The price of a compartment ticket in this train starts from 1299 rubles.

In the production of its cars, the latest technologies and environmentally friendly materials were used.

The restaurant has a dining room for 48 passengers.

The compartment car has 16 compartments on two floors, each of which has four sleeping places, a table, a ladder for climbing to the second shelf, two sockets where electric shavers, mobile phones and other gadgets are connected.
For access to the compartment, magnetic key cards are issued.

Carriage equipment consists of:
⦁ heating system and air conditioning to create favorable climatic conditions;
⦁ three dry closets, working even at the moments when the train stops;
⦁ hermetic inter-carriage passage;
⦁ video systems for surveillance and protection.

The staff car has a compartment with a device for lifting wheelchairs, where people with limited capabilities can travel comfortably. The GLONASS satellite equipment is located in the same carriage.

Tickets for the branded train are sold under the "Dynamic Pricing" program, that is, a passenger can buy a ticket at the lowest cost for a specific date.
In the process of reducing empty seats on the train and with increased demand for a certain date, the cost of a ticket may increase.

Branded trains are more comfortable. The ticket costs a little more than a regular fast train, but they are more convenient to ride. In addition to the usual ones, there are double-decker branded trains. They may include compartment cars(for example, train 103/104 Moscow - Adler, train 23/24 Moscow - Kazan, etc.) with sleeping berths and additional amenities or cars with seats (for example, train 738/737 Moscow - Voronezh).

  • Branded trains are scheduled at the most convenient time (and only they run on some routes at convenient times). At the same time, the train travels faster than a regular fast train.
  • All carriages, regardless of their class, have air conditioning, if climatic conditions allow it to be used. The temperature is regulated in the whole car at once (an exception is soft cars, where the air conditioner is individual for each compartment).
  • All branded trains are equipped with modern dry closets with disposable seat pads, liquid soap, paper towels, air fresheners, etc. - 2 toilets per carriage (in soft carriages, showers and toilets are located in each compartment).
  • Passengers are provided with a travel kit. Its composition depends on the class of the car and may vary from train to train.
  • Bed linen and sanitary items best quality compared to conventional fast trains. On the upper shelves, linen is laid out before the train leaves.
  • Each train has a dining car or a buffet with an extended menu. Breakfast, lunch and dinner can also be ordered with delivery in the compartment - the conductor will help call the waiter.
  • From the conductor you can buy drinks and confectionery, souvenirs, slippers, hygiene items, etc.

This is only a mandatory minimum that you can count on when buying any ticket on a Russian Railways branded train. Further, depending on the specific train and carriage class, the list of services can be extended. For example, hot or cold meals, drinks, snacks, newspapers, etc. are already included in the price of some tickets.

In branded trains of private companies and foreign trains, the conditions may be slightly different, there are other types of cars. In any case, travel will be comfortable.
