Koh Lipe Island in May. Koh Lipe and neighboring islands in Satun Province

Transport on Koh Lipe

There are very few roads on Koh Lipe, and you can get around the entire island on foot in a couple of hours, so transport is not really needed. But still:

  • motorcycle Taxi (motorcycle and stroller) ply around the island, transporting tourists from beach to beach. You can recognize a taxi driver by a lilac vest. A taxi can be useful for delivering luggage from / to the pier and for newly arrived tourists who are poorly oriented on the island. Fixed prices:
  • shuttles from hotels - in fact, these are the same motorcycles with a sidecar, but they belong to specific resorts, provide a transfer from / to the pier, and take their guests along the beaches;
  • bicycles - there are not many of them, they are offered to tourists for rent as a form of entertainment (an hour - 50 baht, a day - 200 baht);
  • motorcycles - they are mainly used locals;
  • cars - there are very few of them on the island, and they are used as freight transport;
  • boats - deliver tourists from one beach to another and to neighboring uninhabited islands. You can rent them on the shore or purchase one-day tours (see below for more on this in entertainment).

Types of accommodation on Koh Lipe

Today Ko Lipe is ready to accept travelers with any wallet:

  • most a budget option- stay on the island in a tent: travelers pitch tents on the shores of Sunrise Beach or in specially equipped campsites on Sunset Beach;
  • hostel, or hostel - only one was seen on Pedestrian Street;
  • budget houses / bungalows. For budget travelers I hasten to inform you that in January 2015 we rented a decent bungalow from a sea gypsy family 5 minutes walk from Sunrise Beach for 500 baht per day (price after auction, subject to rent for 10 nights);
  • rooms and bungalows with amenities (air conditioning, hot water) of an average price category - 1200 baht per day. There are plenty of such offers even in season on Sunrise, Sunset, Pattaya and in the central part of the island. Breakfast is often included in the price;
  • luxury rooms - I liked Serendipity, Idillic, Anda Resort hotels on the right side of Sunrise Beach and Mountain Resort on the left side of Sunrise Beach - perhaps the most gorgeous view of the Andaman Sea opens here, and the hotel area is the largest.

Please note that some hotels in Ko Lipe follow the childfree philosophy and therefore do not accept guests under the age of 12! Also, when choosing a hotel, make sure that there is no construction nearby, and roosters do not live on the territory of the hotel itself (they are very loud here). It is important that the room above the bed has a canopy (or windows with mesh) - there are a lot of mosquitoes on the island.

Dining on Koh Lipe

Food on the island costs 1.5-2 times higher than on other islands of Thailand and the mainland. Today, Koh Lipe has a large selection of restaurants and cafes representing the cuisines of different peoples of the world. So, this is Thai (restaurants serving fresh seafood are especially popular); Indian, Italian, Greek, Mexican, Australian, American.

The level of service is very different and the price tag too. Good coffee is brewed on the island - there are professional coffee machines at several points.

I hasten to inform economical travelers that Thai BBQ is a very budget option for dinner (chicken wings from 20 baht apiece). Pancakes with different fillings perfectly satisfy hunger (from 30 baht per pancake). We also recommend fresh coconut ice cream from local dishes.

We advise you to pay attention to Indian cafes - prices do not bite. Well, of course, semi-finished products help out store 7/11 (from 30 baht per serving). In general, if possible, it is better to stock up on the mainland with food.

Here are some product prices:

  • A kilogram of muesli - 250 baht.
  • A kilogram of oatmeal - 120 baht.
  • Milk package 200 ml - 20 baht.
  • A jar of yogurt - 20 baht.
  • Packing of sausages - 56 baht.
  • The cost of a pack of drinking water (6 bottles of 1 liter) is 50 baht.
  • Beer - from 35 baht per can.
  • Fresh bread in the bakery - 50 baht.
  • Fruits are not cheap (for example, bananas 50 baht per kg, coconut 50 baht, mangoes 120 baht per kg).
  • Tomatoes, cucumbers - 60 baht per kg.
  • Mayonnaise - 25-55 baht per package.
  • A decent piece of pizza is 100 baht.

Internet and cellular communication in Koh Lipe

The Internet is now available in every hotel, massage parlor or restaurant. The signal is quite strong (for example, it holds Skype), but the speed is not the highest. If you need excellent Internet, then you can buy a SIM card from a local True provider (sold, for example, in a 7/11 store).

Health and Medicine on Koh Lipe

There are three on the island today clinics (hospitals) who work with tourists and solve emergency medical issues - two of them are located on Pedestrian Street. Nearby are also pharmacies - they have an average selection (prices are not the lowest), but it is still better to take with you all the basic medicines that you may need. salons there are a lot on the island of Kolipe, they are found at every step - prices from 300 baht per hour.

Koh Lipe and the Russians

Yes, Koh Lipe is little known to the Russian audience, but still there are Russian tourists on the island (to be fair, there are not many of them). We did not find Russian businesses and even Russian-oriented businesses on Koh Lipe: not a single signboard on the great and mighty, not a single Russian-language menu, not a single Russian-speaking massage therapist, Russian chanson motifs are nowhere to be heard. And this personally makes me very happy - yes, I speak English very badly, but I want to feel that I am in another country ... As for travelers from other countries, it can be noted that many Germans and Italians rest on Kolipa - mostly , youth - bright and stylish ...

Sea activities in Koh Lipe

There are no scooters, bananas and parachutes on Koh Lipe (which, in my opinion, is very nice). There are travelers who come with their equipment for windsurfing and ride on the left bank of Sunrise Beach. But the main sea pleasure is diving and snorkeling in Koh Lipe and on other islands of the Tarutao reserve (Koh Lipe is part of it). Of course, you can bring your own equipment. However, the island is full of "one day tour" offers. Locals offer three standard snorkel tours to neighboring islands:

Each traveler's "package" includes fins, a vest, a mask, a snorkel, a light lunch, drinking water, fruits. By the way, do not forget to bargain - they willingly drop 50 baht from the price.

Diving - the price of one dive is from 1500 baht (by the way, there are also night dives). To take a course and get a PADI diver certificate in Koh Lipe costs from 9999 baht.

What to do in Koh Lipe?

  • well, of course, a lot of swimming,
  • enjoy sunrises at Sunrise and sunsets at Sunset,
  • in the evening at 6 o'clock in the Pooh bar to watch a reclining movie (admission is free, but you are supposed to buy a drink or popcorn),
  • visit a local Buddhist temple,
  • to have unhurried conversations with new acquaintances in the bar (the cost of a cocktail is from 100 baht),
  • to catch the buzz from doing nothing, swinging in a hammock,
  • do yoga (at 7 am and 4:30 pm) on the territory of the Castaway hotel (almost the center of Sunrise Beach),
  • tasting local delicacies - fresh coconut ice cream and roti pancakes,
  • take a photo session on a sandy spit near the Mountain Resort

With kids in Koh Lipe

The hotels do not have children's animation. Also on the island, we did not meet any slides, or swings (only rope swings on trees), or game rooms. Restaurants do not offer children's menus. And in principle, there are few children on the island.

Ecological situation on the island of Koh Lipe

The ecological situation on the island is improving (compared to previous years) - a waste processing plant has been built on the island; hotel staff and volunteers regularly clean coastline(by the way, you can become one of them - the actions take place on Mondays; food and water are provided to volunteers as a symbolic gratitude). Some Koh Lipe restaurants have a food cleanliness mark.

When is the tourist season in Koh Lipe

The best time to visit Koh Lipe is from November to the end of February. In other months, communication with some islands is interrupted and getting to Koh Lipe is problematic.
By the way, we got to Koh Lipe by express boat from the neighboring Malaysian island of Langkawi. The road from Langkawi to Koh Lipe takes about an hour and cost us 100 Malaysian ringit per person (including transfer from the hotel to the port in Langkawi). The road Ko Lipe - Langkawi cost 750 baht (from port to port). Attached is the schedule of speed boats from neighboring islands to Koh Lipe and back.

A couple of words about the beaches of Koh Lipe

The sea surrounding the island is beautiful: gentle, clean, rich in color.

Everyone can find a beach to their liking here:

  • Sunset beach (sunset beach: a narrow coastal strip, currently a large area is occupied by hotels destroyed for construction),
  • Sunrise beach (my favorite: fantastic color water, sandbar, nice hotels)

  • or Pattaya (the beach where boats from the islands arrive, but it is here that you will see gorgeous white flour sand, beautiful water color; the beach itself is relatively not crowded).

That, perhaps, is all that we wanted to tell about Koh Lipe. Now are you ready to follow your dream?

Koh Lipe is located in the Andaman Sea in the province of Satun in southern Thailand, very close to the Malaysian island of Langkawi. In this article, I talk in detail about how to get to Koh Lipe from Bangkok, Phuket, other resorts in Thailand and Malaysia, as well as from Russia.

How to get to Koh Lipe

There is no airport on the island of Koh Lipe, there is no bridge leading to it (as, for example, in Malaysia 🙂), so you can only get to Koh Lipe by water:

  1. By speedboat or ferry from Pakbara Pier
  2. By boat (ferry) from Hat Yao Pier (Trang)
  3. By speedboat from Koh Lanta, with stops at Koh Ngai, Koh Mook, Koh Kradarn, Koh Bulone
  4. By speedboat from Phuket (via Lanta)
  5. By fast ferry/boat from the Malaysian island of Langkawi

Previously, water communication with the island was only in the high season (from mid-October to April - May), for the summer Ko Lipe was “closed” from tourists 🙂 now, of all the above methods, speedboats / boats from Pakbar run in the low season (summer), therefore, Koh Lipe can be reached all year round.

How to get to Koh Lipe from Pakbara Pier

There are speed boats/fast boats from Pakbara pier from different companies several times a day.

Approximate boat schedule Pakbara - Koh Lipe:

  • 11:30
  • 13:30
  • 14:30
  • 15:00
  • 15:30.

Schedule can change! Even if you have purchased a ticket for certain time, this does not mean that the boat will leave exactly on schedule. We had tickets for 11:30, and we sailed later than 12:00. AT low season(June - October) boats run 1-2 times a day, usually at 9:30 and 11:30.

Travel time from Pakbara to Lipe is an hour and a half, with rough seas it can increase up to 2 hours or more. Along the way, all boats stop for 15 minutes at Tarutao Island. Those who wish can stay for a few days on this island, there are bungalows and tents of the national park. Or just go to the island and take a walk along the coast while waiting for the boat to leave.

Entrance to the Tarutao island is paid - 200 baht, more precisely, this is a fee for visiting the Tarutao National Park, the ticket is valid for 5 days, including visiting the island of Koh Lipe and other islands of the national. park, which can be visited during one of the.

Pakbara Pier

Pakbara Pier is well equipped with an air conditioned area with waiting area, toilet, overpriced sundries shop. Entrance to the pier is paid (!) 20 baht 🙂

There are a lot of people inside in the waiting room. Here you need to get tickets for the boat (if you have a complex ticket or you bought tickets in advance online) or buy tickets

But there is no pier on Koh Lipe, in the low season or with strong waves in the sea, boats arrive at the shore on, and in the high season - on. Some speedboats (including ours) are parked near the shore, and some boats are further from the shore, and transported to the beach on longtails for 50 baht per person.

Landing on the island of Koh Lipe

Loading and unloading luggage is still a circus: things are thrown right over the water and it seems that the suitcase is about to fall into the sea, so do not let valuables be loaded into the boat, but keep them with you! Luggage is packed at the stern, and in some places even on the roof of the boat, so that the suitcase may arrive wet and dirty ...

How to get to Pakbara Pier

The nearest big cities to Pakbara village:

  • Trang (not to be confused with the city of Trat, which is near)
  • Hat Yai

And here and there there is an airport, bus stations, and in Hat Yai even railroad station! You can get to Pakbara Pier by:

  • Taxi. A car from these two cities to the Pakbara pier will cost 1800 - 2200 baht, the approximate travel time is an hour and a half
  • Minibase. From the bus station Hat Yai there is a mini bass, the cost is 150 baht, travel time is one and a half to two hours
  • By purchasing a combined ticket. For example, upon arrival at Hat Yai airport, we bought a complex ticket for minibus + boat: airport - Pakbara pier - Koh Lipe for 900 baht per person. It is better to buy such a ticket in advance on this site, firstly it will be cheaper (~ 700 baht), and secondly, you will not have to wait long at the airport until tourists from other flights are collected.

The same complex ticket (mini bass + boat) can be bought at the Hat Yai railway station, at the bus station, at any travel agency and hotel.

Boat timetable

Important: to get to Koh Lipe on the same day, you need to get to Hai Yat until 13:00, but earlier is better! I would not count on 100% for the boat, which is scheduled at 15:30 ... You can spend the night in the city of Hat Yai, there are many inexpensive hotels.

How to get to Koh Lipe from Trang

If you flew to Trang, then the nearest pier to the city is Trang Hat Yao Pier, from which Tiger Line Ferry boats depart daily during the high season at 13:00. Travel time 2 hours. You can buy tickets on the carrier's website.

We got to Koh Lipe just from I thought for a very long time how to get to Koh Lipe from Phuket. I decided to choose a sea route 🙂 I immediately dismissed speed boats (still, I couldn’t stand 4-5 hours in such a speed boat, even an hour and a half was enough for me on time 🙂), I wanted to sail on the Tiger Line Ferry, for some reason I imagined such a big ferry , the same as or like us 🙂

But after reading the reviews, I realized that it’s better to choose another option on how to get to Koh Lipe from Phuket 🙂 In the reviews, people complained about the old boat and frequent long delays, they wrote that the boat didn’t take 4 hours, as stated, but almost twice longer! After reading the reviews, I decided to choose another way to get to Koh Lipe from Phuket, namely the more standard way through Hat Yai and Pakbaru.

Option 2: via Hat Yai and Pakbara

By bus

From Phuket to Hat Yat can be reached by bus. Buses run from 6 am to 9:45 pm, travel time is about 8 hours, the cost is from 300 to 600 baht, depending on the class of the bus. Tickets can be bought at the bus station in Phuket Town or on the website.

It is best to travel by night bus VIP 24, which leaves at 21:45 and arrives in Hat Yai around 6 am. Then transfer to the pier and on the first boat at 9:30 to Koh Lipe. Then you will be on the island around 11:00 - 11:30 and still have a whole day ahead!

By plane

Bangkok Air direct flight from Phuket to Hat Yai. Departure at 7:25, arrival at 8:30. More recently, there was an evening flight at 19:25, but on this moment I don't see it on the schedule. The cost is about 1700 baht, including luggage and even breakfast on board 🙂 Check the cost and buy tickets Phuket - Hat Yai >>

We chose this option how to get to Koh Lipe from Phuket. Everything went smoothly: at 5:30 in the morning we ordered a taxi to our condo, at 6:15 we were already at Phuket airport, checked in our luggage, drank coffee in a coffee shop, loaded into a small plane, had breakfast 🙂 We arrived in Hat Yai even earlier than the time indicated in schedule.

Small Bangkok Air propeller plane on Phuket - Hat Yai route
Breakfast on the plane

I wanted to buy tickets for the transfer airport - pier - Koh Lipe in advance online on the site (it turned out cheaper), but while I was thinking if we would have time for the minibus, which leaves at 9 am (we would have had time and even with a large margin), ticket sales stopped (Tickets can be purchased online no later than three days in advance). Therefore, we found a tour agency at the airport, where we bought a mini-bass + speedboat complex ticket. But we had to wait more than an hour for passengers from other flights.

We were at the Pakbara pier at 11:15, where the purchased tickets must be exchanged for numbers for boarding the boat (the numbers are very convenient - there is no queue). We sailed instead of the promised 11:30 at 12:00, and arrived at Ko Lipe at 14:00 - due to the storm and rain that started along the way, the boat sailed more slowly and arrived at Sunrise Beach, and not at the opposite beach. It was even more convenient for us: our hotel was literally a few steps from the place where the boat arrived 🙂

Hurray, it's our turn to load into the boat 🙂
In the boat we are waiting for the departure to Koh Lipe

How to get to Lipe Island from Krabi

From Krabi, you can get to Koh Lipe via Hat Yai. There are no direct flights from Krabi to Hat Yai, and in my opinion, it is not advisable to fly through Bangkok, so you can get there by bus, minibus or taxi. The distance to the pier is only about 300 km.

Minibus tickets to Hat Yai from will cost 350 - 400 baht, a complex ticket Ao Nang (Krabi) - Koh Lipe - 1000 - 1200 baht. You can buy at any travel agency or hotel.

Lipe Island how to get from Koh Samui or Koh Phangan

To get to Koh Lipe from / / you need to follow the path described above: first you need to get to Hat Yai, then to Pakbaru, and then by boat on Lipe 🙂 The path is not close ... Read about how to get to Hat Yai from Koh Samui in

Direct route Langkawi - Lipe

In the high season, boats run on the route Langkawi - Lipe and Lipe - Langkawi. On the island of Koh Lipe, there are even immigration offices where passport control is carried out.

Immigration office on Koh Lipe in the center of Pattaya Beach

Boats / boats from Langkawi arrive at Pattaya Beach on Lipe (read about all the beaches of Koh Lipe). They depart from two piers to Langkawi:

  • from the Kauh Jetty pier (in the capital of the island of Kuah, near the symbol of the city of the eagle)
  • from the Telaga Harbor pier, which is located next to the Oriental Village park

We sailed in the opposite direction (i.e. from Lipe to Langkawi) and I specifically chose the carrier whose boats arrive at the Telaga pier, because. first of all, she planned to check into the Geopark Hotel in Langkawi, visit the Oriental Village, the Sky bridge and the neighboring waterfall, which are a few minutes drive from this pier.

There are many beautiful places in Thailand worth visiting at least once. Therefore, the question often arises, where exactly to go. Should I give preference to the islands in the south of Thailand or go to the waterfalls of the north? Surely, most people, having heard about the island of Lipe, first of all asked the question "why go to Koh Lipe?". What is so attractive, interesting and beautiful on this tropical island of Thailand?

Koh Lipe is not as crowded as Phi Phi. Lipa has a much better infrastructure and is much easier to get to than the Similan Islands. Lipe is much more compact or Koh Samui. If we talk about the size of Koh Lipe, then it is only 3 km long (while half of these 3 km is an uninhabited mountain), the distance between the beaches is a maximum of 1 km. You can, slowly walking, walk from one beach to another in 15 - 20 minutes. For those who do not like to walk, there is a motorcycle taxi (moped with a sidecar) on Lipa.

3 | White fine sand and turquoise water of the beaches of Koh Lipe

Despite a number of shortcomings (which I will talk about later), the beaches of Koh Lipe delight with their natural beauty. First of all, we are talking about snow-white and fine, like powdered sugar, sand on Pattaya Beach ( Pattaya beach). Please do not confuse with the resort of the same name in Thailand, which is located near Bangkok, much north of Koh Lipe.

Although it is customary to meet the sunset on the corresponding "sunset beach" - Sunset beach.

In good weather, the Langkawi Islands belonging to Malaysia are visible from Koh Lipe. The most beautiful view of the sea opens from the restaurant on the rock at southern edge Sunrise beach, at the Serendipity Resort. The restaurant is open from 12 noon to 21:30 pm, drinks are served from 10:00 to 22:00 (prices are not high, the food is delicious). If you want to wake up in a room with beautiful view by the sea, it's worth stopping in Serendipity Hotel Beach Resort (you can book a hotel on booking.com or agoda.com).

7 | Wide range of seafood in restaurants

In the evening, on the main street of the island, Walking street, feasts begin. Restaurants put up stalls with seafood, kindle barbecues and lure hungry tourists with the alluring smells of cooking food. There are so many temptations around that it is not a sin to arrange a real celebration of the stomach. In addition to the classic options for restaurants where you can choose a certain dish from the menu, Walking street has seafood buffets, where for a certain amount you can try everything that is in the assortment of the institution (the price for such a buffet is from 490 baht ~ $ 15 per person).

Disadvantages of Koh Lipe and what you should be prepared for

Vacation disappointments lie in wait for those who do not know about the shortcomings of the place where they are going. Koh Lipe is rapidly gaining popularity and many disadvantages are associated with the growing tourist flow:

Save an article on Pinterest
  • too much garbage that local authorities do not have time to deal with;
  • a large number of boats, which are designed to meet the needs of tourists, flooded the beaches (especially the beaches of Sunrise and Pattaya),
  • many fairly large dogs that make a good living on waste from restaurants (they can be annoying and arrogant),
  • prices in Koh Lipe are higher than in other places in Thailand (even in the "7 Eleven" chain of stores, prices for all goods are 1.5 - 2 times higher),
  • service in many hotels is lower than expected (the lack of experienced and qualified staff affects) and the choice of a hotel on Koh Lipe should be approached with particular care.

The natural disadvantage of the island of Koh Lipe is pronounced ebbs and flows. At high tide, most of the sandy edge of the beaches is under water and there is nowhere to sunbathe, and at low tide it becomes so shallow that it is impossible to swim. The only place on the island where you can sunbathe and swim at almost any time is the northern part of Sunrise beach.

Koh Lipe is the most south island Thailand, a resort that is little known among our tourists. However, on the first day on Koh Lipe we met a lot of Russian speakers. However, the very next day and until the end of our "vacation" we no longer heard our native speech. What is interesting about this island, how does it differ from other islands in Thailand?

Koh Lipe, Thailand

Sea and beaches

The most important thing that now distinguishes Koh Lipe from other destinations is that the island has stunning beaches, one might even say one of the best in Thailand. Better only for . It is for the sake of paradise beaches and the sea that tourists from all over the world come here. Some 20 years ago, the beaches were deserted and semi-wild, but now civilization has reached here. But despite the abundance of tourists and hotels, the beaches of Lipe are still beautiful. Thanks to the beaches, you can close your eyes to the other shortcomings of the island. We have made our rating the best beaches Ko Lipe, they gave the first place to the wrong beach, which guidebooks recommend.

That feeling when swimming in the sea is perfect

If someone else has not seen in the last article, watch our video review of the best beaches on the island.

Nature

Not to say that Koh Lipe has some particularly outstanding nature, but the views of the eye are pleasing to the eye in some parts of the island. For example, when you cross the bridge from Pattaya Beach to the secret beach. Large stones, greenery, clear turquoise water…

Atmosphere of relaxation and carelessness

The third thing we noticed is the atmosphere atypical for Thailand. With the onset of darkness, everything changes on the beach, music is heard from dozens of cozy cafes, fire shows are held, kind half-drunk people of all nationalities walk along the coast, intoxicated by tropical nature and sea breeze, there are bright stars in the sky, and glowing plankton can be seen under your feet in the waves.

We came to the beach every evening and enjoyed the moment. Very reminiscent of a party Goa beaches. So, if you find yourself on Ko Lipe, be sure to go to Pattaya Beach after 8 pm. Feel the awareness that you are at the end of the world, on a tiny tropical island in the open sea, enjoy the warm breeze and bright stars without thinking about anything else.

Here and now

Such an atmosphere is very well conveyed, you instantly become infected with it and you yourself are already loitering along the beach with a slight smile, as if stoned. You smile oncoming tourists, just like you. I don't want to think about anything bad, I don't want to do anything. For all the time on Ko Lipe we were not engaged in work or blogging, but simply rested, we didn’t have enough strength for anything else.

walking street

The first place where everyone who stays on Koh Lipe finds themselves is Walking Street. The street stretches across the entire island from Pattaya Beach and almost to the opposite Sunrise Beach. On the first day, you may get the wrong impression that the whole island looks like a street - cafes, massage parlors and shops. But it's not.

Walking Street is the liveliest and most fun street on Koh Lipe, I don’t even know what we would do if this street didn’t exist. All shops and inexpensive cafes are concentrated here. The rest of the restaurants and bars are located on the beach, and we did not see any shops in other parts of the island at all. Here you can buy souvenirs and stock up a little, order transfers to other regions of Thailand and Malaysia, and also find inexpensive accommodation.

What distinguishes Walking Street in Koh Lipe from its counterpart in Pattaya is that there are no prostitutes, lady fights, go-go bars and other debauchery. I am sure that you can find entertainment here if you search carefully or ask one of the locals, but there is nothing like that in the open.

Cons of Koh Lipe

A large number of boats on all beaches

The island cannot be called paradise. There are no bounty beaches on Ko Lipe. The beaches are good, of course, but not heavenly. There are many boats on all beaches. They create inconvenience with their noise, pollute the water, and also pose a danger if you swim outside of fenced areas.

low tide

In the afternoon, low tide begins on all beaches. At low tide it becomes very shallow, at the bottom there are stones that used to be at depth. On our first day we went swimming on and were very disappointed. But when they came 2 days later in the morning, they could not believe their eyes, how everything looks different here in the morning. The main thing is to go to the sea in the morning. Low tides start in the afternoon and swimming at this time will not be so pleasant.

High housing prices

Housing prices are overpriced by about 2 times. The cheapest options are tents in campsites for 500 baht per night. Average rooms in guesthouses with a fan - 1000 baht, average hotels offering rooms with air conditioning and hot water - from 1500 baht. Such prices for accommodation here in the season from November to March. In the low season, the price tag is lower, but who needs to go to Koh Lipe during the rainy season, when the waves and cloudy skies intensify on the sea.

Most of the hotels on Koh Lipe are built in the form of bungalows. There are so many options right on the beach. But if you booked a hotel not on the beach, don't worry, you can walk to the sea from the center of the island in 5-10 minutes.

Overpriced products

Well, as if we understand that this is an island, everything is imported here, but for some reason on other islands of Thailand, such as Koh Lanta, Koh Chang and even Koh Lan, prices are not too high. And here most of the products are exactly 2 times more expensive than on the mainland. Especially at 7-Eleven. But on the other hand, in a cafe, prices do not differ from ordinary tourist restaurants in other Thai resorts.

Motobikes and tuk-tuks

Their presence and movement along all pedestrian streets is very infuriating. Wherever you go, every minute someone will drive behind or in front, and you need to move away, dodge, and then breathe dust and exhaust fumes. It is impossible to move normally along Walking Street during the day, mopeds constantly go back and forth. It is especially annoying when a tuk-tuker rides along a narrow street on a motorcycle with a sidecar, as it occupies the entire width of the street. Well, at least from 6 pm they are forbidden to ride the Walking and they do not go to the beach.

I remember that motorcyclists on the next "paradise" beach in Sri Lanka had already caused such irritation in us.

Rubbish and litter everywhere

This circumstance surprised me the most on the first day. Ko Lipe is part of the Tarutao National Park, everyone pays 200 baht to enter the island. But then why did the locals make their island so dirty? This is a national park, is there really no control at all? The fact that tourists litter, somewhere they throw a goby or leave a bottle - these are all trifles. It is the locals who cause the greatest harm to the island, that is, the Thais and Burmese themselves who live here.

Ko Lipe is not the same (c)

Such landscapes are everywhere, you just have to move 20 meters from Walking Street. You don't have to go far to see all this garbage, devastation, abandoned building materials. So the island is littered, as you understand, not at all by tourists, but by the Thais themselves. Or the Burmese, for whom this is the norm, but then why don't the Thais do anything?

I'm enjoying your NATIONAL PARK

The motto of the inhabitants of Ko Lipe: where I live, there I cru!

Garbage and general filthiness is the biggest disappointment and culture shock on Koh Lipe. Well, the filthy island of Koh Lan near Pattaya, where the situation is exactly the same, but at least there is not a national park there. I do not know if any of the tourists paid attention to this, but I have never seen such "national parks". In the park, after all, the pristine nature should be maintained and preserved as far as possible. I really hope that in national park The "Similan Islands" will never be such a horror, although the prerequisites are already there.

Garbage barge on Ko Lipe

And this is how they take out the garbage from the island. Well done, of course, that they take out, although not all, but why is a garbage barge placed in the very center of one of the best beaches? And it stands here not for 5 minutes, but for several days, until it is full. Moored exactly 50 meters from the bungalow of the Lipe Power Beach Resort. How great it is for the guests of this hotel to go out on the porch early in the morning, admiring the sea, breathe in the fresh smell of garbage ...

Paradise Island Koh Lipe

The Thai island of Koh Lipe is a very small island, which is located in the south of the kingdom and borders on, it is part of the National Marine Park Tarutao. Around it there are a lot of small islands, both inhabited and not so much.

Koh Lipe - an island in the Andaman Sea

This island was advised to visit by my friend, who at that time had been living in Malaysia for the third year. This place is not very popular with tourists due to the fact that the road to it is long, and the rest is not exactly cheap.

AC

It makes no sense to go there for one day, you need at least one, or even two overnight stays. there they cost at least $ 80, and they don’t indulge in special luxury. Rest on this island of Thailand is mainly beach, you can go diving, snorkeling or fishing. In pleasure, you can live there for three days, no more, which we actually did.

Life on Koh Lipe

How to get to Koh Lipe

We got to Koh Lipe in the following way.
Flight from . All international flights they arrive at the airport, we leave it, and after that we flew away with the help. Further, Koh Lipe can be reached from Malay on a speed boat that runs between the Malay and Thai islands twice a day. The boat departs several times a day from Langkawi's western seaport, The Danna Telaga Terminal. I bought all tickets online in advance on the kohlipethailand website.

Since we crossed the border of Malaysia and Thailand, we went through border control in the port of Langkawi and filled out migration cards.

Two hours of strong wind in the face across the Andaman Sea and we are there! The road from Langkawi to Koh Lipe on a speedboat is also a kind of attraction, the wind blows so powerfully that it seems like a free fall.

The first thing we saw on this amazing island Thailand is white sand beach Pattaya, one-story houses and cafes, immersed in endless greenery, azure water near the coast and a large number of wooden boats. We have seen this before only in pictures in travel magazines on paradise islands!

In professional tourism, there is such a concept as "returnability", that is, when tourists return from year to year to the same place for recreation and adventure. In this case, this word fully corresponds to the island of Koh Lipe, it left an indelible impression in our souls. If we are in those parts, we will definitely visit him and say hello from us, this is really a heavenly place, a real Bounty island!
