U Arena Stadium. Lomas de Arena Regional Park From idea to implementation

The new sports and cultural complex U-Arena belongs to the rugby club Racing 92 and is located in the suburbs of Paris Nanterre, the administrative center of the Hauts-de-Seine department.

From idea to realization

In June 2010, the General Council of the Hauts-de-Seine department and the City Hall of Nanterre initiated the construction of a new home sports arena for the Racing 92 rugby team and a theater and concert hall. Initially, the idea of the project met with resistance from some deputies from the Green Party and the Socialists, and also faced protests from local residents.

Since the beginning of 2011, the development of the project for the largest theater and sports center in Europe has been entrusted to the French architect C. de Portzamparc. After several years of public discussion and amendments to the project, in February 2014 the foundation stone of the new Palace of Sports and Culture was laid. The playing fields in the gardens of the Arc near the skyscraper La Grande Arche de la Fraternité in the business district were chosen as the place for its construction. Greater Paris Defense.

The bulk of the major construction work was carried out by Racing Arena, part of the Investment Ovalto holding and owned by the Swiss businessman and president of the Racing 92 rugby club, Jacques Lorenzetti. The industrial and commercial organization EPASA and the city of Nanterre also took part in the implementation of the project.

Architecture and technical equipment

In November 2016, in order to attract additional investment in construction, it was decided to abandon the original name Arena-92 in favor of the modern version of U-Arena. The U-shaped layout of the building itself also speaks in favor of this choice.

When finishing the facade of the sports and cultural complex, 592 giant aluminum and glass panels were used, equipped with 3 thousand LED strips. In working mode, they can provide 16 million colors and shades. L’Emotion Studio specialists took part in creating the impressive lighting of the palace.

The modular multifunctional hall U-Arena can accommodate 32,000 fans under its roof during a rugby match or from 10,000 to 40,000 spectators at concerts and shows of popular artists and bands. The main entrances to the stands of the universal entertainment center are located from the side of the prefecture of Nanterre (via Nanterre prefecture) and La Defense Grand Arch (via La Defens Grand Arche).

The new sports and concert complex significantly exceeds the previous European record holders in terms of the capacity of the Palais omnisports de Paris-Bercy hall with its 20.3 thousand seats for spectators and the Arena do Stade Pierre Maurois (l'Arena du stade Pierre-Mauroy) in Lille, with a capacity of 25 thousand people.

The U-Arena is equipped with one of the largest projection screens in the world with an area of 1,400 m2 and an Avel Acoustique sound system. The stage design was made by Duck Scéno, who designed the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis and the Casa de Música in Porto. The sports and concert complex also provides for the construction of shops and office space with an area of 33,000 m2. Its total area is 117 thousand m2.

Great prospects

The construction of the sports and cultural complex will be completed on September 30, 2017. Its grand opening will take place on October 19, 22 and 25 with concerts of the legendary rock band Rolling Stone. Until the end of 2017 in the new concert hall there will also be performances from 1980s stars featuring Sabrina, Patrick Hernandez, Julie Petrie, Jonis Jemison, Cookie Dingler and many other guests.

Among the upcoming sporting events, the Supercross de Paris motocross competition is planned. The administration of the sports and cultural complex plans to hold cybersport competitions and world premieres of films.

Taking into account the matches of the regular French rugby championship, the U-Arena can host up to 40 concerts and various shows during the year. During Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, the U-Arena is also scheduled to host competitions in artistic gymnastics.

Tickets for upcoming U-Arena sports and other spectacular events are easy to purchase on the arena website in advance.

For the convenience of fans of the Racing-92 team and spectators heading to concerts and shows, parking for private cars is equipped near the stadium. At the same time, 500 passenger cars can be freely accommodated on it.

If you drive from the south to the north of Tenerife, the first of the three resorts that you will come across will be Playa de la Arena(often erroneously referred to as Playa de la Arena). It is part of an agglomeration of three cities, in which, in addition to it, there are also Puerto de Santiago and Los Gigantes. From Spanish, the name of this resort town is translated as "sandy beach" (playa - beach, arena - sand).

Playa de la Arena boasts the best beach in your region- La Arena. For many years he has received European blue flag- a universal global "quality mark" of beaches. La Arena is quite small, but it's safe to say that it will stand up to comparison with any other beach of a similar size on. This is especially true when you consider that while many of the island's popular beaches are artificial (made from sand brought from the Sahara), La Arena Beach is natural. Its black sand remains a constant reminder of the island's volcanic origins. The beach is located in the city center, along the main coastal highway Avenida Maritima, at the exit from which near the beach you can easily drive into free parking. The beach offers a magnificent view of the massive rocks that abruptly drop down into the ocean. On one side, the Playa de la Arena hotel adjoins the beach.

Water near La Arena beach are relatively calm, but sometimes high waves can rise. Caution should be exercised, as undercurrents pass nearby, which change in intensity depending on the weather and the presence of waves. When the sea is rough, large stones that are directly under the water may not be visible and pose a danger to swimmers. It is also recommended not to let small children swim alone, as the shore under water breaks off abruptly quite close to the water's edge. When swimming on the beach is dangerous for people, a red flag is hung on it. Don't ignore him.

In summer, when the sun shines brightly, care should be taken, because dark sand heats up easily up to very high temperatures. It is recommended to bring flip-flops with you.

The beach is great for couples, families and seniors. He is considered one of the most clean beaches.
