History of Mozyr


For the first time in written sources, the city was mentioned in 1155 as a gift from the Kiev prince Yuri Dolgoruky to the Chernigov prince Svyatoslav Olgovich.

In the middle of the XIV century Mozyr was part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and since 1569 the city was part of the Commonwealth. In 1577 the Magdeburg Law was granted to the city. At the beginning of the 17th century, Mozyr was engulfed in flames. As a result, the Mozyr castle and a significant part of the city were destroyed.

Currently, the city has enterprises of the oil refining, chemical and petrochemical industries, as well as machine-building, woodworking and food industries.
