How much to go from Pattaya to Koh where. Koh Kood is one of the best places for a romantic getaway! Ferries to Koh Kood

Ko Kood ( Koh Kood) is located in the eastern part of the Gulf of Thailand, south of the islands Koh Chang ( Ko Chang) and Ko Mak ( Ko Mak).
Koh Kood is equidistant from both the coast of Thailand and Cambodia: 25-30 km to the coast.
The route to get to the island is by sea: Laem Sok ( Laem Sok) – Koh Kood:
– the pier, from where catamarans and speedboats depart to the island, is located in the town Laem Sok 25 km southeast of the city of Trat ( Trat).

Koh Kood can be reached by speedboat from Koh Chang or Koh Mak.
Thus, there are two options for getting to Koh Kood from the mainland:

  1. with stops at the islands of Koh Chang and Mak
  2. straight from Laem Sok Pier

How to get to Koh Chang from Pattaya or Bangkok -.

Now let's figure out how to get to Laem Sok or the island of Koh Chang.
That is, we will select the ground part of the route.

Closest to the island international Airport– Utapao (Pattaya) is located 247 km from the Laem Sok pier, from which speedboats and ferries leave for Koh Kood.
The nearest airport to Laem Sok Pier is Trat Domestic Airport (Trat, TDX).
Three flights from Bangkok arrive daily in Trat.
The monopoly Bangkok Airways flies, so airfare prices are not cheap:.

It can be seen throughout the layout that the path to Koh Kuda is not easy ():
- you can’t get to Koh Kood directly from Bangkok or Pattaya.
Options:

  1. Air from Bangkok (BKK) to Trat (TDX) + taxi to Laem Sok pier + speedboat/ferry
  2. Taxi from Bangkok (drive 5-6 hours) to Laem Sok + speedboat/ferry
  3. Bus from Bangkok bus station to Trat + taxi to pier + speedboat/ferry
  4. Sparing option with visiting several islands on the way (our option)

How did we get to Koh Where we

The first part of our March trip to Thailand was devoted to the inspection of three islands in the Gulf of Thailand:,.
All movements along the route were one way (one way), so we did not rent a car, moving by taxi and speedboats.

Koh Chang – Koh Kood

We moved to Koh Kood from Koh Chang.
In the first agency I came across, I bought a transfer to Koh Kood: 900 baht per person.
What's included: pickup from hotel to pier, speedboat stopping at Koh Mak, pickup from Kohda pier to hotel.

Departure from the hotel at 12:00 (bought 10 minutes before the transfer).
Departure to Koh Kood from the southern part of Koh Chang (Bang Bao) at 13:00.
The duration of the speedboat trip is 2 hours.

The speedboat brings everyone to Klong Chao Beach in the southern part of Koh Kood: there is a deep fairway to approach the pier.
At other times and seasons, the stop of the speedboat may be different.
A pickup truck picks you up from the pier and takes you overland to your hotel.

)

In this article, I will tell you how you can get to Koh Kood from Pattaya on your own and on a budget.

There are not many options to get to Koh Kood from Pattaya.

  1. The first is to order a minibus to the island, the cost is approximately 1100 baht per person. This price includes transportation to the pier (in Trat province) from your hotel, plus speedboat tickets from Trat to Koh Kood.
  2. The second option to get to Chanthaburi province and then from there to Trat and by ferry to the island.

The first option is suitable for those who do not like fuss, unnecessary emotions and anxiety. You can order a minivan in almost all travel agencies, the price will vary depending on which boat you will be sent to the island on, most likely on a high-speed one. Travel time from Pattaya to Koh Kood in this case will take about 5 - 6 hours. At the same time, you will have to sail on the boat for about one hour.

If you want to save money and you are not afraid of the road and several transfers, then the second option is for you (IMPORTANT! The more you will be, the more economical the second way transportation will be than the first).

Your first task is to get to the province of Chanthaburi (not to be confused with Kanchanaburi). This can be done by minibus, the stop of which is located almost opposite the bus station on the northern street. Below, on the map, I marked the stop of this minibus.

The bus departs every hour, starting at 6:00 and almost until 22:00. Ticket price for 1 person 200 baht. Travel time is approximately 2 - 2.30 hours.

This bus does not pick you up from the hotel, you need to come here on the day of the trip and buy tickets on the spot for the time you need. I advise you to take the very first bus and then you will have a chance to get to the island around 15:00.

Before and after (to be sure) tell the driver and the person who will sell you tickets that you need the driver to stop near minivans in Trat (Van to Trat). Thus, you will be taken directly to the stop from where minibuses leave for the province of Trat. In the photo above, just this same minivan.

Minivans from Chanthaburi to Trat leave every hour or every 30 minutes (I don’t remember). I got on a minibus that left at 9:00, although I left Pattaya at 6:00. Ticket price 70 baht. Travel time is about an hour. You will also need to warn the driver that you need a bus station (Bus station). The driver will stop at the shops that send people to Koh Chang, maybe they also send to Koh Kood, but I think it will be more expensive, so go to the bus station or to Central market from there go free (so they said) tuk-tuks to the cashier. I myself did not try this option, later I learned about it.

From the bus station in Trat, you can go to Cambodia (to the border) for 120 baht, to the pier where boats leave for Koh Chang 50 baht, as well as to Pattaya and Bangkok.

If you have reached the bus station, then from here you can take a taxi for 250 - 300 baht, to the pier Laem Sok (Laem Sok) boats depart from it to Koh Kood. Travel time from the bus station to the ticket office is approx. 30 – 40 minutes.

When you get to the ticket office, you will have the choice of taking a speedboat for 600 baht (journey time approximately 1 hour) or an express boat for 350 baht (journey time approximately 2 hours).

Express Boat Schedule to Koh Kood: 9:00, 11:30, 13:00 (journey time 2 hours).
Speed Boat Schedule to Koh Kuda: 13:00 (travel time 1 hour).
Catamaran timetable to Koh Mak: 14:30 (travel time 2 hours).

I got here at about 10:30, as the option at 11:30 for 350 baht suited me both in terms of money and time, I chose it. What is most remarkable here, at the cash desk, there is free wi-fi.

As well as free coffee and tea at the self-service table, which was very pleased after a long journey.

In the photo below you can see the express boat to Koh Kood.

The boat itself is two-story, there is a TV on the first floor, but it smells a little, I don’t recommend going on the second floor in bad weather. The seats are more or less comfortable, there are a lot of people. Thais, Cambodians, foreigners, there are almost no Russians.

What is also nice, the ticket price includes a transfer to the hotel on the island of Koh Kut.

Summing up the cost of the trip on your own with my option, you will spend: 200 + 70 + (300 if you take a taxi and not free) + 350 = 920 baht + 20 baht costs to get to the bus station in Pattaya. = 940 baht. Travel time is approximately 7 hours.

  1. Be sure to book hotels in advance if you don’t want to be left without places (there are no tuk-tuks on the island and there are almost no taxis and you can’t find hotels on foot either). You will find hotels in Ko Kut, hotels in Ko Mak.
  2. Take plenty of money with you, the islands are not the cheapest, and there are no ATMs on them.
  3. Be prepared for the fact that you will be bored, take more books, maybe some board games.
  4. On the island of Koh Kut, not all hotels have 24-hour light, so do not be alarmed if electricity suddenly disappears everywhere.
  5. Buy a mosquito repellent, as well as motion sickness pills, a long road, islands with living creatures.
  6. Do not go here on weekends and holidays, hotel prices are much more expensive

Well, that's all, if I forgot something, I'll add it.

Ask and share your opinion about transportation to Koh Kood or Koh Mak.

In the Gulf of Thailand in Thailand there is a paradise for comfortable rest- Koh Kood island. It is located in the very south-west of the country in close proximity to the border with Cambodia. This island is considered the fourth largest in Thailand and is part of the largest archipelago of Koh Chang. Only 2,000 inhabitants live on the territory, the rest of the island is covered with virgin tropical nature and snow-white beaches.

Going to the island is primarily for those tourists who want to take a break from the bustle of the city and enjoy a relaxing beach holiday on the shores of the warm Gulf of Thailand. Paradise Island cannot boast of its nightly entertainment facilities, there are only a few of them in the busiest areas and only during the high tourist season.

Paradise Island is also worth considering for those who love active pastime. Here you can enjoy activities such as:

  • trekking walks;
  • visiting waterfalls;
  • passing through the tropical jungle;
  • diving and snorkeling;
  • sea fishing;
  • sailing on a yacht or kayak;
  • underwater adventures;
  • acquaintance with local flora and fauna.

Connoisseurs of pristine nature will definitely like and sink into the soul of Koh Kood, but will upset those tourists who like to spend time in nightclubs, bars and shopping centers. The infrastructure in this regard on the island is completely undeveloped, but the state government plans to create all this in the near future. On the one hand, this will attract even more tourists here for a longer stay, and on the other hand, it will negatively affect nature and turn the island into a typical Thai resort.

A visit to Koh Kood is included in sightseeing tour in Thailand, there are planned visits for tourists white sandy beaches and beautiful jungle. In the near future, Koh Kood may lose the title of the most paradise island Thailand, since the tourism sector of the economy has been developing very actively in its territory in recent years. A lot of hotels are being built, and numerous cafes and entertainment are growing on the beach strip.

Popular beaches

All the popular and comfortable beaches of the island are located in its western and southern parts, including the following:

  • KhlongChao is considered the most popular and inhabited beach on the island, the length and width of which exceed 0.5 kilometers. Volleyball, football and basketball games are held here on the snow-white sand.
  • LaemBangBao surrounded on four sides beautiful scenery dense tropical forest, which is rich in interesting vegetation. The coastline is completely covered with white sand, and the entry into the sea is very smooth and soft.
  • aoPrao is considered the most beautiful beach, in the middle of which several dozen palm trees grow. They create a natural barrier from the hot sun, and the beach is also famous for its beautiful sunsets.
  • aoYaiKoet located close to the previous beach very close to the village of Klong Mat. It is always not crowded here, since there are no hotels near it and it occupies a very small area on the island of Koh Kood.

Hotels

By the standards of Thailand, the daily cost of living in hotels is very high and this is explained by their great popularity among tourists. Here it is almost impossible to find economy class housing, the cost of which per day will be less than 1,000 baht.

1000 baht will cost accommodation in a small room without air conditioning and with a shared bathroom, the hotel will be located far from the center of the island and the beaches. In the high season, it is better to book hotels on the island in advance, then for 1200-1500 baht you can find an acceptable accommodation option. For such a price, you can order a separate bungalow with all amenities, which, in fact, on the day of treatment will cost 2 times more. I advise you to book a hotel on the Hotellook website.

Among the popular hotels that have 4-5 stars are the following:

  1. Soneva Kiri is considered the coolest hotel on Koh Kood. It offers accommodation in huge individual luxury villas. On site you will find a large outdoor swimming pool as well as a private terrace overlooking the sea. The five-star hotel has everything for a full-fledged a relaxing holiday, including plenty of hammocks and sun loungers, free internet throughout, gym, spa treatments, several bars and restaurants.
  2. High Season Resort positions itself as a five-star hotel and spa complex. It is located on the first coastline of the island in the middle of Klong Chao beach. The hotel offers several large swimming pools, a huge spa, free internet and a gym. The hotel's restaurants serve dishes from two cuisines of the world - Thai and European.
  3. To The Sea The Resort Koh Kood is a 4-star hotel that is in no way inferior to the previous ones in terms of comfortable accommodation, service and maintenance. The cost of living is already significantly lower than in five-star accommodation options. The hotel is located in the liveliest part of the resort, close to central beach and main streets of the island. The hotel has several outdoor pools and a private area on the beach of Koh Kood.

Transport

The transport infrastructure on the island of Koh Kood is almost completely absent, there is no public transport and even taxis. Only local residents act as the main carriers for tourists who can offer you a ride on your own motorbike. For your pleasure, you can only travel to Koh Kude on a rented vehicle - a motorbike, bicycle or car.

Rental offices are mainly located in large hotels on the island, which offer tourists to rent a bicycle, motorbike, motorcycle or car. The most expensive thing will be to rent a car, the cost per day will be at least 1500 baht. Renting a motorbike will cost 300 baht per day and this is the best option, since it is very difficult and dangerous to move around the island on a bicycle under the scorching sun.

The mountain bike option is convenient for those who are going to conquer the local jungle and do not want to spend money on gas.

There is only one gas station on the island that sells gasoline and it is located near the central pier of Hlon Hin Dam. If you cannot buy gasoline there, you can buy it in stores. It is sold in cans, but its cost is several times higher than at a gas station.

How to get there?

The easiest way to get to Koh Kood is as part of an excursion, which usually lasts two days and two nights. The cost of such excursions starts from 5,000 baht, but its price includes a round-trip transfer, partial meals and full payment for a hotel stay on the island. You can book an excursion from Pattaya at.

There are several options to get to Koh Kuda on your own from different parts of Thailand:

  1. From Bangkok can be reached by plane, which makes three flights a day from Suvurnabhumi Airport to the city of Trat on the Thai mainland, located near Koh Kood. The cost of a ticket for local airlines is quite high, since the flight is very popular - from 3,000 baht one way for an hour flight. Next, you need to get from the city of Trust to the island by speed boat.
  2. From Bangkok and Pattaya the most acceptable option is a bus that departs from the capital of Thailand from the northern and eastern bus stations, as well as from terminals near Suvarnabhumi airport. From Pattaya every day run tourist buses from the central northern bus station of the resort. Travel time on minibuses from Bangkok is about 5 hours, and the fare starts from 200 baht, depending on the chosen cabin class.
  3. Upon arrival in the city of Trat, you need to get to the Laem Sok pier, from which high-speed boats depart 2 times every day to Koh Kood. Travel time takes no more than two hours, you can leave the city on the mainland at 9 am and at noon. Boats depart from the island at 10 am and at noon. On Koh Kood, the boat drops tourists at the hotel or place they need, the price includes a transfer to the place of arrival. The price for one trip is 600 baht.
  4. FROM archipelago Koh Chang the only way to reach the island is by sea. Speed boats run on the route every day. The cost of one trip is quite high and amounts to 900 baht per person. From Koh Chang, speed boats depart at 9 am and return at 11 am. Travel time takes no more than one and a half hours, and the ticket price includes a transfer from the place of departure in the archipelago to desired hotel on the island.

Although the resort is positioned as a sightseeing place in Thailand, it is perfect for lovers of a quiet, calm and measured rest. The infrastructure is very poorly developed, but this attracts even more tourists here. This is one of the best places for young couples who love a quiet and romantic holiday.

Hotels on Koh Kood

Hotels in Koh Kood will please those who want to feel in the role of Signor Robinson. The bungalows lining the coast are very similar to this adventurer's huts, but offer an almost European level of comfort. Even in thatched huts for 400 baht a day there are fans, for whom this is not enough - they can choose apartments with air conditioning, costing at least 700 baht. Some hotels boast a free Wi-Fi zone. In the village of Klong Chao there are one-story capital buildings, consisting of 8-10 rooms.

On the island of Koh Kood, only the coastal territory is inhabited, so everything Koh Kuda hotels are in the first line. The popularity of the island is gradually gaining momentum, so during the high season, which lasts from December to March, it is better to take care of booking hotels. You can choose and book the hotel you like on the island of Koh Kut on the websites or. A map with the hotels located is at the end of the article.

Beach holidays on the island of Koh Kood

The beaches of Koh Kood located along west coast. There are several of them, but the most popular are three of them.

Klong Chao beach

Klong Chao- the largest, located near administrative capital islands. It is surrounded by most hotels and guest houses. It is best developed tourism infrastructure. Near it there is a waterfall - one of the main attractions of the island.

Bang Bao beach

Bang Bao surrounded by hills covered with lush tropical vegetation. The sea is calm, the white sand of the beach is interrupted in some places by large rocky boulders.

Taphao beach

Taphao- a delight to the eyes, along the edge of which palm trees grow, giving a blissful shade. It's the best place to watch sunsets. Not far from it is the village of Klong Mat.

The island is quite small, there is only one road. It goes from the pier in the bay on the north coast to the west coast, then along it almost to the southern tip of the island and turns to east coast. Its total length is about 25 kilometers. public and commercial transportation on Koh Kood completely missing. It has a single resident, apparently a local madman, moonlighting as a driver. You can search for it or wait for hours, so it’s better to rent a bike at the hotel (). It costs about three hundred baht. If you have a penchant for masochism, then rent a bike. The island is replete with elevation changes, so you will have to sweat a lot.

Koh Kood Island is one of the young but rapidly developing resorts in Thailand. Since it is at some distance from tourist routes, it has only recently begun to be explored. As a result, there are many uninhabited areas with the pristine beauty of tropical nature. Numerous beaches are not so crowded, the sea is azure and clean.

The landscape is dominated by mountains and plains, with tropical impenetrable jungles occupying 2/3 of the island. The most high point- Mount Paenti (Phaentee) with a height of 320 meters above sea level. The flat part is occupied by large areas of rubber trees and coconut palms, so the local population is busy collecting and importing rubber and coconuts. Another source of income is seafood and, of course, the tourism business, in which more than two thousand residents are involved in one way or another.

The infrastructure is not yet very well developed, which is an indisputable plus for many vacationers, because. the island is not flooded with many hotels, supermarkets and nightclubs. Locals hardly speak English, foreign speech is understood only in hotels.

But still, Koh Kood is not completely far from civilization, there are hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, a hospital and a school.

If you are an active person, then the money here can be spent on water activities, fishing, diving and snorkeling, jungle trekking, kayaking, boat trips to small islands nearby.

The island of Koh Kood is often considered as an addition to, from which excursions are organized here. Actually it is quite independent resort where you can spend your entire vacation. Unfortunately, the prices here are among the most expensive in Thailand.

One of the largest settlements on the island is the village of Ao Yai, located near the harbor with fishing boats.

Koh Kood island on the map of Thailand

History

The first settlements on the island appeared in 1905, when the inhabitants of Kampuchea (modern Cambodia) fled from their native lands from the French conquerors. It was they who formed the first village of Klong Mad (Klong Mad), which still exists. Its inhabitants, like their distant ancestors, are engaged in the extraction of fish and the collection of coconuts and rubber.

On Koh Kude there is beautiful waterfall Nam Tok Khlong Chao, which is famous, among other things, for the fact that the King of Thailand, His Majesty Rama VI, stayed here in 1911.

How to get to Koh Kuda

From the mainland

The island does not have its own airport, so it is impossible to get directly to Koh Kood by plane. From Russia, you must first fly to Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok.

Cheap flights to Bangkok

You can buy tickets to Thailand as profitably as possible with the help of special search engines that collect data from all airlines.

Transport

Public transport on Koh Kood is completely absent. Moreover, there is not even a “commercial”, i.e. taxis and motorcycle taxis. They cannot be caught on the road, near attractions or near hotels, as in other resorts. Only at the pier in Ao Yai and Ao Salad can a tuk-tuk be on duty, which belongs to one of the residents and who simply decided to earn some extra money by driving.

Therefore, the only option to explore the island is to rent a motorbike. The cost is 300 baht and is available in almost all hotels. There are no special rental offices. We do not recommend taking a bicycle, since the island is large and mountainous and you will not get any pleasure from examining it, but you will only sweat while pedaling hard uphill.

From the village of Ao Salad in the north to the village of Ao Yai in the south there is an asphalt road. It also runs next to Khlong Chao beach, and there are unpaved branches to other beaches from it. So you can move around with relative comfort and get to almost all places on the island.

Since there are motorbikes on Koh Kood, there are also gas stations. True, there are not many of them. Two large ones are located just north of Khlong Chao. You can also buy bottled petrol on some sections of the main road.

Who should go to Koh Kood

We recommend going to Koh Kood to everyone who wants to beautiful beaches"bounty" in Central Thailand. In this part of the country, few people can compare with the island, except for Samet, but there they are not so long and because of this there is less scope for the eye. The beaches are much more crowded and there is only one beautiful beach on Ko Mak. So if the main thing for you on vacation is the sea, silence, picturesque landscapes, the cleanest sea, then better places can not found.

Also, a vacation on Koh Kood will appeal to all lovers of scuba diving. Due to the fact that the waters here are not polluted by water transport, they have preserved the flora and fauna in their original form as much as possible, as well as transparency. Therefore, diving and snorkeling are very good.

For everyone who wants to forget about civilization for a while, we also recommend the island for the entire vacation. Here you will not be reminded of the fast rhythm of cities and mainland resorts - there are almost no cars and motorcycles (their average traffic interval is one motorbike in 10 minutes, besides, the road passes away from the beach and you won’t even see it), there are no shopping centers with large shops and supermarkets, no noisy bars, discos and any transvestites or importunate merchants. Koh Kood offers only hotels on the coast and restaurants. Nothing else will remind of civilization.

But the pluses of the island for some may be minuses. We do not recommend going here:

lovers nightlife and entertainment. Even aquatic species there are no sports in the form of motorcycles and skis, only kayaking.

There are no conditions for shopping either.

You can only move around on a rented motorbike, there is no other transport (neither a taxi nor a motorcycle taxi).

There are few attractions: a couple of waterfalls that practically dry up from March to May, and a few modest temples.

Very long drive, longer than any other island or resort in Thailand.

What to do and what to visit

A little. The island is more suitable for beach holiday than a tour. But if you get tired of doing nothing on the sand, then you can go look at the Nam Tok Khlong Chao and Klong Yaiki waterfalls, as well as the Big Buddha in the village of Ao Salad. But keep in mind that the waterfalls are almost dry at the end of the dry season (from March to the beginning of the rains in June) and you will see just boulders from which flows a tiny stream.

You can also see the village on stilts in Ao Yai, coconut and rubber plantations and old "fat" trees that are several hundred years old. On this list of attractions Where is exhausted. We will cover each of the above in more detail in a separate article.

The island offers a wide range of activities for lovers active rest. Traditional water activities such as jet skis, water skiing, boating and many more are at your disposal. In addition, there are many other opportunities to actively spend time on the island.

1. Travel in kayaks.

It is best to rent a kayak (traditional Thai boat) with a guide who will help you explore all the hidden corners of Koh Kood. There are a lot of small rivers and lakes on the island, lost among the mangrove forests, which can only be reached by water, as there are no hiking trails in the dense jungle.

Sailing along the forest rivers, in which the trees rise directly to the water, you can see a myriad of different animals and birds. It is very interesting to make such a voyage after sunset, as the jungle begins to glow due to a large number fireflies. Subsequently, when you are perfectly comfortable with the control of the kayak, you can take walks on your own. Also, by boat you can travel outside of Koh Kood, to the nearest islets or to go fishing and snorkeling on the high seas.

2. Snorkeling.

You can dive with a mask and snorkel on the entire coast and beyond, but still the best places are the west and especially the south of Ko Kuda. In coastal waters south coast much less divers due to the fact that it is harder to get there. This is a big plus, because. you can enjoy rich underwater world all alone, without colliding every now and then with other divers. And there are much more coral reefs and marine inhabitants living near them than on other coasts. The best dive sites are near large rocks and rock formations.

3. Diving on Koh Kood.

The island attracts divers from all over the world with its natural, untouched nature of the deep sea. For them, deeper places are suitable, located at some distance from Koh Kood, as well as the nearest islands. On the coast there are several dive schools where beginners will be taught the basics of deep diving.

4. Fishing.

It does not require any skills, just buy a fishing rod and throw it into the sea, the bait will take care of the rest. If there is no fishing rod, then you can simply throw a rope with bait and a sinker and catch it in this way. True, in this case, you will often have to dive to unhook the hook from the coral. It is best to catch snails, squid or crabs. Bait can be bought for little money in some restaurant by asking the chefs for it. A fishing rod can be rented. There are a lot of fish in coastal waters, pecking almost everywhere. But be careful, not every catch can be eaten! If you do not know this type of fish, then be sure to ask local residents whether it can be eaten. There were cases of poisoning!

Beaches

The most popular beaches are located in the west of Ko Kuda - this, and Ao Yai Koet. The most inhabited is. It is here that the infrastructure is highly developed. Large selection of hotels and cheap guesthouses. The length of the beach is 600 m, the width is about 100-150 m, which allows regular football and volleyball competitions to be held on the sand. Nearby there is a waterfall of the same name, which is one of the attractions of the island. In the evenings, this place looks very romantic, in several places it is lit by lanterns.

Also popular. It is surrounded on all sides by high hills with rich vegetation. The sea is always calm here coastline consists of white sand, to which large boulders are added in the north.

One of the most beautiful beaches. Palm trees grow on the snow-white shore, in the shade of which you can take a break from the heat. Here are the most beautiful sunsets. The place is well located near the village of Klong Mat.
