What is worth visiting in Pattaya on your own. What to see in Pattaya on your own? Attractions, beaches, islands

This question worries a considerable number of tourists who have arrived at this resort for the first time, who are somewhat confused by the abundance of interesting objects to visit and the atmosphere of a round-the-clock holiday. After all, once a small fishing village, today Pattaya has changed beyond recognition and has become a real entertainment center designed for people of all ages and incomes.

So where should you go and what to see in Pattaya on your own? In this article I will try to briefly list the most interesting places to visit in the city and its environs. Since many aspects of recreation at the resort have already been described in sufficient detail on the site earlier, in some cases links to such descriptions will be provided, so anyone who is interested can

What to see in Pattaya on your own and for free

Since Pattaya is first of all seaside resort located in the tropics, the first thing you should pay attention to is the sea. The resort is located on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand of the South China Sea, which belongs to the basin Pacific Ocean. For those who are not spoiled by frequent sea voyages, even the beaches located on the territory of the city will seem very pleasant for relaxation.

A detailed description of city beaches can be found on the page. Immediately, I can only advise you to choose not the Central Beach for swimming, but the beaches located in the northern part of the city and the beaches in the southern area of the Jomtien resort. It is there that the water is cleaner, there are fewer tourists and there is no such noise as in the city center. All beaches in Pattaya are free, but for the use of sunbeds and umbrellas you will have to pay 40-100 baht per day (depending on the beach and distance from the water's edge).

Since the island of Koh Lan, which is located near Pattaya, has long become an integral part of this resort, you should definitely visit it. As well as city ones, which with photos and videos can be found by clicking on the link, are free to visit. Due to the fact that the water on the island is much cleaner than in the city, I recommend not to go there on the first day of your holiday in Pattaya: otherwise, you risk being very disappointed in the beaches of the city.

In addition, people usually go to the island for the whole day or most of it, which means that you can get very burned in the sun, especially if you don’t know. For a more detailed study of holidays on the island of Koh Lan (how to get from Pattaya and back as quickly or as cheaply as possible, how to get around the island, what sights you can visit there, etc.), you can read a number of articles for visiting the island on your own in the section.

The places that you can visit in Pattaya on your own and for free include two observation decks that offer excellent views of the central part of the city and its horseshoe-shaped embankment. The location of the sites and the path to them will help you find (you need to look in the Pratamnak hill area). The first observation deck is located next to the huge letters PATTAYA-CITY, which glow on the hill with multi-colored lights and are visible from afar.

Big Buddha Hill in Pattaya - a beautiful staircase

On the hill next to the observation deck there is another attraction that you can see in Pattaya on your own. We are talking about the hill of the Big Buddha, where you can already understand from the name of the largest Buddha statue in the resort, to which a beautiful staircase with seven-headed dragons on the railing leads. Upstairs, in addition to the large statue, you can find several smaller Buddha statues, including one in the navel of which you need to throw a coin after making a wish. There you can make a wish and ring the bells for their fulfillment. Also interesting to visit beautiful park on the way to Buddha hill and Chinese temple complex.

Pattaya is one of the main tourist centers country, so there is nothing surprising in the fact that various festivals and mass holidays are periodically held there. Participation is usually free of charge. Often you can get to the concerts of popular Thai bands with live sound, street procession. At the end of November 2014, a grandiose international fireworks festival was held in Pattaya, which, of course, everyone could see in the sky above the central beach of Pattaya and completely free of charge. I personally watched this spectacle both days and was greatly impressed by what I saw.

You can see in Pattaya on your own and for free, numerous city markets and shopping centers. However, it is still difficult to resist shopping, because the prices can be very pleasant, and many of the things are simply impossible to buy in other countries. In addition to traditional markets, there is an opportunity to visit the Pattaya Floating Market. Its main feature is that trade is carried out in houses standing on stilts. The more famous floating market in Bangkok is not up to Pattaya, but you can visit it once. Keep in mind that the entrance is paid, souvenirs and everything else is more expensive than in the city.

What to see in Pattaya for free

A separate category in Pattaya is represented by attractions that can be viewed conditionally for free. Firstly, these are mini-entertainments that are arranged for tourists by all kinds of magicians of various genres. Most often, such characters can be found on Volkin Street in Pattaya. These are funny Turkish ice cream sellers who entertain children and adults with unusual tricks with cold treats, and magicians who perform tricks with cigarettes, and other representatives of the genre.

Of course, no one will oblige you to pay for watching such tricks, but people are trying, and you can thank them for the uplifted mood). This category also includes the owners of exotic animals, which can be seen up close or photographed with those for money. I advise you to initially clarify all the details, because you can come across one when the amount agreed in advance will be required for each shot or each animal participating in the shooting. Don't forget to keep an eye on your pockets and valuables while in the crowd.

Conditionally free entertainment includes Muay Thai Thai boxing fights and shows with poisonous snakes. Both of these attractions for tourists are often held on the same Walking Street in the bars with the ring. Admission is free, but at least one drink must be ordered. For example, a beer for 80 baht (in a store this costs half as much, so the entertainment is still shareware). Also, for a fee, you can take pictures with the snakes after the end of the show and with the fighters after the end of the fight. And in general, after the fight, both the winner and the defeated fighter collect money from the audience, so have small bills when going to such shows.

View in Pattaya on your own and other, more exotic shows can be conditionally free of charge. For example, those where Thai women demonstrate the amazing capabilities of their genitals by shooting darts from them at balloons, opening beer bottles, blowing out candles and pulling out multi-meter ribbons or garlands. Usually there is no entry fee for such shows, but you also have to buy an expensive drink (more precisely, an ordinary one, but at a high price) and, as usual, thank the “actresses” after their performance with small bills (take it with you). Whether or not you should go to such shows is up to you.

What to see in Pattaya on your own for money

Like any other actively developing resort, Pattaya has a large number of excursions, for which you need to pay an entrance ticket. In order not to duplicate previously published information, I will simply provide a link to an article that describes most of the objects that you can see both on your own and by ordering organized tour. I will immediately mention only those objects that were not mentioned in the article by reference.

Being in Pattaya and having free time (and money) - be sure to visit the Sanctuary of Truth, which is located in Pattaya Naklua (in the northern part of the city, on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand). The entrance fee to the temple is 500 baht, so it makes sense to book a tour for the same money, because this way you can save on transport in Pattaya. The Temple of Truth is open to visitors from 8 am to 5 pm and is not a traditional Buddhist temple, as many initially think, but a magnificent example of the ancient Thai art of woodcarving.

Temple of Truth in Pattaya - a unique object of architecture and art

The height of the Temple of Truth is 105 meters and it is the tallest wooden building in the world, which was erected without a single metal nail. True, now and then you can see nails driven in halfway, but they only support the structure during restoration. Outside and inside the temple is covered with magnificent wood carvings: ornaments and sculptures cover every square centimeter. According to plans, the construction will be completed only in 2052, but before and after that time the temple will need constant restoration.

Those who are planning a vacation with children in Pattaya may be interested in visiting the local dolphinarium, which regularly hosts a show of these wonderful animals called Pattaya Dolphin World and Resort. Entrance to the show is 250 baht for children and 500 baht for adults. For an additional 2500 baht you can swim with the dolphins. In general, the object is also interesting because there are other entertainments there: fishing, horseback riding and a visit to the ranch town, karting, a climbing hill, etc. Of course, each entertainment is paid extra. Hours of operation are from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Underwater World Pattaya - 100 meter tunnel

Another similar object that can be visit in Pattaya on your own- a local aquarium called Underwater World Pattaya. The entrance fee is 0, 300 and 500 baht for children less than 90 cm tall, children taller and adults, respectively, opening hours are from 9-00 am to 18-00 pm. It is most interesting to visit the aquarium during the feeding of fish and other inhabitants of the aquarium, which is held at 10-00, at 11-00, and at 14-00. For those who like to “tickle their nerves”, there is an opportunity to swim in the pool with sharks: an hourly pleasure will cost 3,000 baht.

In general, Pattaya is gradually turning from a once resort for single men into a classic family resort, so everyone who came to rest with a child will not puzzle over how to entertain him or them. Again, in order not to repeat myself, I will give a link to a previously published article. This article describes many options for entertainment for children, including attractions outside the city.

I hope that after reading this article, everyone was convinced that there is something to see in Pattaya on their own, even when relaxing there not for the first time. The main thing is that you have enough free time for all this. Well, money, of course. Have a nice holiday!

Independently, then everything will depend on the time of day and who you want to walk with.

If tourists do not know where to go in Pattaya in the evening, then they immediately go to the street, where all kinds of entertainment are available. Initially, you will need to watch the ping-ping show (also called ""). Finding it is easy, once on Walking Street, barkers will come up to you and they will take you to the place. Entrance accompanied by them will cost from 300 baht and above, as agreed. Also included is one cocktail of your choice. These establishments are called "Hot girls" and "Play girls" and are located on the right side of the street if you walk towards the pier. So you can go there on your own, which will be 2-3 times cheaper than with a barker.

Go Go bar Baccara on Walking Street Pattaya

Then you can go to and look at the girls dancing at the poles. In some of these establishments, girls undress completely, and in some they dance without undressing. If you want extreme sports, then go straight to Go Go WildMill, but only without children. There are no such beautiful girls, such as in the Baccara bar, but local ladies know how to entertain tourists.

The building where the nightclubs Maxx, Lima Lima and Mask are located.

Then you should go to Pattaya for a couple. There are about 10 dance clubs on Volkin Street itself. Among them, three can be distinguished that are focused on Russians and are located in the same building:, and Mask. Among them, the most popular is Mix, where you should go. If you come there at 10-11 pm, then you have a chance to get another free cocktail. Among Thais and Europeans, the most popular clubs are I-bar, which are located in the same building on the second and first floors, respectively.

If you don’t know where to go in Pattaya the next day, then go to the show of drag queens, by the way, you can come here with children. In Pattaya on this moment in demand shows: , . The cost of a ticket to the show with a transfer in both directions is 650-1000 baht, depending on the seat in the hall.

If you have time during the day and you decide where to go in Pattaya, then go to the area where you can contemplate, made of wood. The ticket costs 500 baht, which, in addition to visiting the temple itself, includes watching a Thai show and riding in a donkey cart. For a little extra, you can ride an elephant.

You can go to Pattaya with children on your own to the water park. Now you have a choice and you can choose between two water parks - and. The last of them opened quite recently and has a more diverse entertainment program for kids. You can get here by taxi or by buying a tour from a guide.

Temple of Truth

The largest wooden temple in the world. It has been under construction since the beginning of the 80s of the last century and the end of the construction is not yet in sight. The idea of erecting a structure that would have a place for pilgrimage for adherents of all religions of the East came to the millionaire Lek Viryaphant, after whose death his son leads the process. The temple is truly grand building: it is built from teak and iron wood without nails (although the latter are clearly visible on the walls, but the Thais promise to pull them out when construction is completed).

Work inside is ongoing, so visitors are given helmets. The temple has four halls - Thailand, China, India and Cambodia - according to the number of religions represented. There is a chapel only in the Thai hall, where mantras are constantly sounded. The building is richly decorated with ornaments, carvings, and is saturated with symbolism. It is located on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand and resembles a huge dragon from the fantasy world. In addition to visiting the sacred building itself, you can ride a boat around the bay, look at national Thai dances, visit a mini-zoo at the entrance.
Opening hours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., you will have to pay 500 baht for entry.

Temple complex Wat Yan

Wat Yan is not just a church. On the territory of 145 hectares there are about 10 buildings built at different times and in different styles that make up a large religious center. Among them, the main temple is Wat Yansangwararam, where only monks can enter, a white stupa with the relics of the Buddha, the palace of the Chinese emperor, monks' dwellings, a meditation center, hospitals, and schools. The Phra Mondop chapel, also called the Buddha's Footprint, is worth a visit because it houses the footprint of the Buddha.

300 steps lead to the chapel, climbing which you can enjoy the beautiful view and ring the bells, making a cherished wish. On the territory of Wat Yan there are two lakes, one of which is completely overgrown with pink lotus, and around which there are gazebos for relaxation and contemplation. You can visit daily from 8 am to 4 pm. Entrance is free, but you have to pay 50 baht to climb the Buddha's Footprint.

Chinese Temple Wat Ang Sila

The Chinese temple of Wat Ang Sila is also called the Temple of the Red Dragon, and once you get here, you understand why. You will probably not find such a bright, pompous, like a toy building either in Pattaya or in its environs. The building dates back to around 1700 and is dedicated to Chinese Buddhism. The style is sustained in everything - there are Chinese pagodas, and huge incense burners, everywhere and everywhere dragons wrap around columns, a lot of gold and red. The decorations seem to be too much, but the temple looks more fabulous than tasteless - you feel like the hero of a movie about a crouching tiger and a hidden dragon.

The walls of the room inside are decorated with paintings, carpets are laid on the floors. Here you can ring a huge bell and make a wish or hit a huge drum that purifies karma. Countless figures, patterns and ornaments can be viewed for a very long time, and one cannot fail to mention what magnificent pictures are taken against the backdrop of the Temple of the Red Dragon. It is open daily from 8:00 am to 7:30 pm and admission is free.

Temple of Hell and Heaven

Perhaps the most controversial place in terms of visiting tourists. This garden museum gives a visual answer to the question “what happens after death?” both the righteous and the sinners. The part of the territory reserved for Paradise is replete with pictures of the peaceful, happy life of the followers of the Buddha, who meditate in a lush garden. Apparently, the creators of the museum considered that there are much more sinners on earth than saints, and they took as many as 70 percent of the entire area of the Temple under the hellish part. It begins with a reassuring "Welcome to Hell" sign, after which two giant figures of a man and a woman appear before the tourist's gaze, surrounded by smaller figures, each with the head of an animal symbolizing one sin or another.

Further, it will be proposed to “admire” the scenes of punishments for sins - various fanaticism and self-mutilation are shown in all their glory. The figures do not produce a completely terrible impression due to the grotesqueness of the images, however, sensitive people should think about whether to go here. Thais themselves come to the temple at least once a year and bring children. It is believed that if you throw money into an urn next to a figure depicting a sin that you crave to atone for, karma will be cleansed. Time to visit from 8 to 18 hours, admission is free.

chicken king palace

This is what the common people call the Ban Sukhawadi complex - located on the seashore, a pink-blue and gold architectural ensemble built by billionaire Panya Choititawan. The rich man owns Saha Farms, Thailand's largest chicken supplier, hence the name of the palace. There is something to see on the territory: in addition to the six-story mansion itself, there are other buildings, as well as a chic park with ponds and huge flower beds, peacocks walk imposingly along the paths. The owner himself can also often be found in his residence. It is not easy to determine which style the building belongs to - it is a mixture of baroque, rococo and typical Asian motifs.

An explosive mixture also reigns in the interiors - from Mona Lisa reproductions to ancient knights and cheap plastic fruits. There is also a temple of the goddess of mercy Kwan-Yin and, of course, its own Buddha, sitting in the Buddha Tower about 10 meters high. On the territory you can have a bite to eat in a restaurant, watch a daily Thai show, explore the pompous interiors of the palace and other buildings, take a walk in the park. It is worth visiting 500 baht, with dinner and show - 800 baht, the complex is open from 8.30 to 18 hours daily.

Khao Chi Chan or Golden Buddha Mountain

A very interesting sight, which will take quite a bit of time to explore. At 130 by 70 meters, this seated Buddha image lined with gold plates on a mountain is the largest Buddha image in the world. Such an unusual gift was made by the son of King Rama IX for the 50th anniversary of his father's reign in 1996. The money for the gift was collected by the whole kingdom, then the image was applied with a laser for two days and the gold was laid out on a stencil for several more months.

Actually, there is nothing to do here except for photographs against the backdrop of the mountain, so the visit should be combined with a visit to other attractions. A commemorative photo in a frame, by the way, can be made right there for 100 baht. In addition to the photo center, there is a small park at the foot of the mountain. They don’t take money for visiting, Khao Chi Chan is open for tourists from 6 to 18 hours daily.

Big Buddha Hill

Big Buddha Hill or Big Buddha Temple is a 15-meter Buddha statue located on Pratumnak Mountain, to which 120 steps lead. The entrance to the stairs is guarded by seven-headed Nagas dragons. In addition to the golden statue itself, 20 smaller statues await you at the top, seven of which depict the days of the week. From the table next to it, you can calculate on which day of the week you were born, and make a donation to the corresponding statue.

In a separate building at the foot of the hill, for a small donation, the monk will conduct a purification ceremony and tie a rope around his wrist to fulfill a wish. Bells are also located here, hitting each of them with a stick, you can also make a cherished wish. By the way, when ascending and descending, the steps should be counted, and if the count is not set, it means that karma still needs to be cleaned. Here, in general, Thais come for cleansing and for Buddhist flavor, tourists, from the observation deck at the top, by the way, offer an excellent view of Pattaya. Admission is free, open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

floating market

Designed to show the life of the Thai village on stilts, very common in the kingdom earlier and still preserved in some places. In Pattaya, the village was built specifically as tourist facility. This is a very colorful attraction - guests are taken on boats past houses on both sides of the river, connected by footbridges. Shops are located in almost all houses, and various entertainment events are held on the bridges - dance performances, Thai boxing, massage. They sell mainly products and food, which can be bought not only in stores, but also directly from boats cruising along the river.

Thematically, the market is divided into four regions of Thailand with traditional products and crafts inherent in each - south, north, center and northeast. To buy something here or not - everyone decides for himself, the prices are very high and unique products cannot be found here. But you can eat delicious, make unusual photos and have a fun day. Entrance to the floating market is paid, 200 baht. Open daily from 10 am to 9 pm.

elephant village

Really interesting place with a noble history. The reserve was founded in 1973 as a shelter for old and sick animals, where they found health care, and still exists at its own expense, without the help of the state. The village began to gain popularity and today about 30 elephants live here and more than 100 service people work here. You will be amazed by the skills of these huge animals - in the village, elephants paint, play instruments, dance, drive cars and even give massages. There are three shows every day.

You can also feed the elephants and ride them on various walks through the jungle. This tour will not leave anyone indifferent. The reserve is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. A visit costs 650 baht, for 1200 baht you can take an hour walk around the territory on an elephant, there are longer walks.

The Tiffany and Alcazar Show

Most of the tourists in Thailand associate these shows with transvestites and, indeed, the percentage of people who have changed their sex in the Kingdom is frightening. Not visiting the shows organized by transvestites is like not trying a mango here. The show of transvestites does not imply anything shocking or hurting the dignity of sensitive citizens. This is a colorful, bright vocal and dance performance in lush scenery dressed in elegant costumes of men who have become women. Tiffany was the first show of its kind in the country and dates back to 1975. About 100 actors are involved in the production.

The Alcazar show is Tiffany's main competitor, they are located opposite each other, and have an almost identical concept of performances. At both shows you will sing, dance, show parodies of the culture and traditions of both Thailand and China, the USA and other countries. Spectators who have been to both shows note that Tiffany boasts a more solid and high-quality production, which also determines the price of tickets. Both shows take place daily: Tiffany at 18, 19.30 and 21 hours; Alcazar at 17, 18.30, 20 and 21.30. There are additional performances on weekends. Tickets for Tiffany cost from 800 to 1400 baht, for Alcazar from 500 to 1200 baht.

Alangkarn Theater

The Alangkarn Theater, unlike the show of transvestites, offers its viewers a full-fledged theatrical performance with the participation of professional actors. During the three-hour performance, you will learn about the main periods of the history of Thailand, imbued with the culture and traditional arts of this country. What the Thais did not use in the production - scenery and costumes, fireworks and special effects, even elephants take part in the performance. Alangkarn Theater only shows one show, but the level of performance is so high that it leaves an indelible impression in the memory of tourists. Definitely recommend to visit in Pattaya. Before the start of the performance, you can dine in the theater restaurant. The performance goes on every day except Wednesday, beginning at 18:00. Tickets from 800 to 1500 baht, depending on the selected seats and the availability of dinner.

City of Love "Mimosa"

An interesting format to attract tourists for shopping. This is a shopping and entertainment center, designed in the form of an elegant french town, with narrow streets, canals and parks, and even its own town hall. More than 300 stores are located in the shopping area, and a labyrinth and a haunted house are located in the entertainment area. There is also an aquarium in which sea monsters like small sharks live, and a poultry house. Every day at 17, 19 and 21 hours, a travesty show takes place on the square near the Fountain of Love. Finally, in the wedding area, you can do nice pictures for memory. Of course, there are restaurants, cafes, spas and massage rooms in Mimosa. Street musicians play the guitar, various attractions are arranged for visitors - you can definitely spend the whole day here. open shopping center from 10-11 to 23 hours, entrance fee - 600 baht.

Cartoon Network Amazone Waterpark

Open to visitors since 2014. A water amusement park was built by the TV channel of the same name in a cartoon style. Each of the 10 zones of the water park is dedicated to its own character. The most extreme zone with adrenaline slides is Omniverse, the zone for teenagers and not the most courageous visitors is Adventure Zone. Finally, for the little ones there is the Cartoonival Zone, which has about 150 attractions for kids. There is also a lazy river and a pool with large artificial zones. The water park is proud of the attraction Surf Arena, which imitates a wave for surfing. Of course, there are cafes and restaurants on the territory, however, with very high prices. A visit to the water park for an adult will cost 1600 baht, the work schedule is from 10 to 18 hours.

Ramayana water park

Ramayana Water Park is even more "fresh", opened in 2016 and is the largest water park in Asia. The number of slides is more than 20. The theme of the park is forgotten ancient city, on the territory there are even swamps covered with mud. Of course, there are extreme and calmer slides, a wave pool and a lazy river. In addition to water activities, the Ramayana has a fairly large land area, with playgrounds for active sports, elephants that you can feed, and a floating market.

There are two children play areas. On some rides, the automatic lifting of circles-cheesecakes works. The restaurant area is diverse, there is even a children's restaurant. Food prices, by the way, are not as "biting" as in Cartoon Network Amazone. Parents can visit the spa with fish, get a massage while their children master the slides. An adult ticket costs 1190 baht, the water park is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm.

military beach

The military beach or Sai Keo is located in the Bang Saray area, which is 20 kilometers from Pattaya. This place attracts local residents and tourists cleanliness, not crowded and quiet. As the name implies, the seashore belongs to the army, more precisely, to the school of the royal navy, so the order and cleanliness of the territory are closely monitored. Length coastline is about 500 meters of white-gray sand. The beach is surrounded by hills, and palm trees and deciduous trees growing close to the shore provide a natural shelter from the sun.

It has everything you need for a relaxing holiday infrastructure: changing rooms and showers, several restaurants and cafes, water activities like "banana" and "cheesecakes", a small hotel with a bungalow. Noisy bars and discos, for obvious reasons, can not be found on the Military Beach. Glass-bottom boat trips are offered, either to coral reefs or neighboring island where you can feed the wild monkeys. Entrance to the Military Beach is paid, 100 baht per person.

Volkin Street

Volkin Street - this street in the central part of Pattaya has become calling card not only the resort, but the whole of Thailand. It is small, you can go through it all through in 5 minutes. During the day there are practically no people here, and at first glance it is impossible to determine what is the secret of the popularity of Volkin Street. Everything changes with the onset of the evening - the street is blocked for cars and on both sides of it are full of signs and endless bars, restaurants, nightclubs are deafening with music. This is the center of Pattaya's nightlife, which specializes mainly in entertainment for adults - striptease, Go Go, erotic shows. There are many prostitutes on Volkin Street, both in bars and on the street.

Once here, it is not necessary to succumb to the general mood and plunge into the abyss of debauchery. If you don’t expect a “continuation” vacation, you can walk along the pedestrian street, feel the Thai flavor, if you really want to, visit quite decent discos like Insomnia and Mixx, and finish your acquaintance with the dark side of Thailand.
